Your Thoughts On They Names

What are the thoughts on the name Barbie?

Well my name is Barbie and no i was not named after the doll, my mom just said that she really liked it. I was teased as a child ("barbecue" being the main teaser) and i always dreaded that first day of school when my name would be called and everybody would look up to see who the hell was named that...and then i could hear them all whispering. Now i am 19 and i love my name, now that MOST people are mature at my age... although 2 out of 3 times i hear the "Barbie Girl" chorus as i introduce myself to someone. Quite annoying.
I have never met anybody else who's name is Barbie (not including nicknames if their name is Barbara and their called Barbie). So i guess my question is what do you all think of the name... is it really that horrible? And would you think if you met someone with the name? Or have you already met someone?
Also, would you name your daughter Barbie, why or why not?

FYI i do not have a middle name.

Well thanks in advance to all!

What are your thoughts about people who find the name Jesus offensive to the extent of possibly asking for the removal of a related sign from a private property, and would you have the same reaction if the name on that sign was Muhammad or Moses?

What are your thoughts about people who find the name Jesus offensive to the extent of possibly asking for the removal of a related sign from a private property, and would you have the same reaction if the name on that sign was Muhammad or Moses?Hi, big fat old blatant heathen atheist here..My first reaction is “Ffffffffffs idiots” * insert raucous sniggering* (aimed at both sides of this “issue”)Let's let Asshole Man sniff around here to see what sorts of bullshit he can detect…TL;DR The folks here who are upset with each other deserve each other and all of the tempest in a teapot they're creating. Excuse me while I laugh at them and point. There are a couple of things operating here and I suspect one is hiding behind the other. My second thought is that it's private property and the folks who own it are welcome to do as they please with it within the strictures which they agreed to when they bought the place. My third thought is thst on the “offended” partys’ side I see objecting to someone posting such a sign on their own property as assinine (at best), and using the CC&Rs as a cover for that as an 8 year old passive aggressive tactic. My fourth thought is that the other side I see folks who are “offended” by someone else's lack of belief using a 4 foot by 8 foot plywood sign to get in the face of non-believers. I'm pretty sure the strictures these folks agreed to when they bought the place don't allow 4′ x 8′ billboards.Seriously people? F'ing SERIOUSLY?! All y'all!

Thoughts on Mariah Carey's baby names?

Thoughts on the name Victoria for a baby girl?

Hello!

I love the name Victoria! I think it's sweet and your are right with the fact that it grows well. I like that the name Victoria can have two nicknames Vicki and Tori I really like the nickname Tori. It's nice. I don't much care for the other names that you have picked out because they are quite a bit old fashioned, I've never really felt that the name Victoria ever was. Here are a couple combinations for the name Victoria...

Victoria Ray
Victoria Roze (spelt with a z to make it original.)
Victoria May
Victoria Alice
Victoria Dawn
Victoria Lynn

And all these middle names would go great with the two middle names to especially Tori. I hope that I could help!

Good Luck!

Your thoughts on alternate spellings of names?

When it still is obviously the name, then I have no issue with it. But, there is a child in the preschool that I used to teach whose name was Keinkeyeteah (Ken-Key-Ta) I don't like the name in the first place, but I never understood all the extra letters. I'm pretty sure her mother hated it too, because in the 3 years that I knew them, she never once referred to her by her name. It was some random nickname.

To writers: What are your thoughts on pen-names and pseudonyms? For those that use them, does it allow you to be bolder, more experimental, or creative with your work? Did you use one in the beginning, and switch later?

Thanks for the A2A.Nothing regarding a pen name will keep your anonymity in the long run. Someone will always know who you are, whether that’s the publisher (who pays you) or the copyright office.Using a pen name is about branding. You might go by ‘John Doe’ for scifi, but then use ‘Devin Sever’ for Fantasy.I started under a pen name, but decided to switch for personal reasons. In regards to whether a pen name would make me more bold/experimental/creative with my work: No.I write what I wish to write, controversial or not. If the readers that have shown interest in my work at any point, doesn’t enjoy something I add, they’re not required to, nor would it matter to me if my content offended them because if it did, then they’re not my target audience. If there’s one thing I won’t do, it’s change my work to be ‘less offensive’ to certain readers. I don’t believe in such self-censorship, it is the doorway toward writing for the audience, above writing for yourself, and that’s the worst place a writer could be.If you’re not enjoying the written word, then you won’t enjoy the work, and your work will be stale as a result.

What would be your thoughts if a man changed his last name when getting married?

I have many thoughts on this :)The first one is a disclaimer - I have a person in my extended family who did just that. In that society (I lived in back then) and in those norms, it was something totally unheard of, and he was ostracized by almost everyone. His own mother disowned him, and it was a really bad situation for about 3 years - he and his wife ended up living with our family during that time. So, my thought back then - I was 7, I believe - was that the lady had guts to convince her husband to change his last name after marriage. I personally admired her. Then, the time came for me to get married (many years after that, and in a new country with new societal norms), and I myself contemplated whether or now I should change my name after marriage.I didn't go with the change for many reasons, however our child has my husband's last name. And right now, if someone (like yourself) will ask me what do I think about the spousal name change after marriage, I honestly believe that two people who are about to link their lives together should be able to decide on it.And if they decide to have one common last name, and that last name is the other person's last name - who am I to judge them?I've heard of couples do those double and triple hyphenated names.I've heard of couples retaining their maiden names.I've heard of couples choosing an entirely new last name for themselves following the marriage. It's a personal choice, and I fully expect two adults to have a presence of the mind to figure this out.(In my opinion, this is the one of many decisions which will come this couple's way, so it's just a preliminary test for them - how to handle the discussion, how to handle the opinions of the outside world, and how to merge their lives. Wishing that this is the hardest test that they have to meet in life).
