Your Top Ten Life Tips

What is uni life and work like? Any tips?

University is completely different from school, as in school they baby you and you have help you need, and you are spoon-fed. Here at university you are on your own more or less and the work is more independent. You have to do everything on your own with very little help and read lots of book to get different references. There are a lot of people in your lecturer hall, around 200 students so you won't know everyone there and it can be daunting at first but you get used to it very quickly and you know how to deal with it. If you need help you should always ask your tutor or lecturer for help and don't think that help isn't around because it always is

How long you get for the assignment depends on what the assingment is, what you're studying and what the lecturer desides. I study medicine so I mainly get 1 month to complete my assignment and no more than 3 months. When you get your assingment you shoul devote your time to completing it and get all the time you have to complete it - time is valuable so make sure you use your time wisely and don't leave it till last

The work gets marked by your university lecturer. If it's an exam then gets marked fairly quickly but if it's an assignment then it could take longer. When you do your work everything has to be written up on the computer, which is then scanned to make sure that you didn't cheat and it's in your own words - for my university if you have more than 20% of the work that has been copied then you fail, so writing in your own words is key.

The assignments you get depends on the course you do - so really you should already have a fair knowledge seeing as you know the major you are studying. I got 5 assignments to complete this year

You do get exams and depending on the university they decide when you should have them. I get exams like a pop quiz every week and end of term exams to see what you have remembered and got right. If you don't pass you repeat but my university is in the top#10 unis in the world they just kick you out. As I study medicine I probably get more exams than everybody else

If your course is a part-time course you will only be there for 3 hours-6 hours a day 3 days a week so it's not that bad. If your course if full time then you are there 4 days a week and you have a standard day off mainly being Wednesday, but while you are not at uni you're expected to study. My lecturers are 10 hours long.
