Zimmerman Files Civil Suit

How did George Zimmerman get away with murder?

Florida has a law that says if you have a gun and pick a fight with someone you have the right to shoot them. However if you are unarmed and attacked by a person with a gun you don't have the right to defend yourself. It's a very weird state.

Civil Suit With Aaron's Sales and lease.?

Aarons is taking me to court in the state of Florida, due to the fact, I don't want to pay anymore, and I feel I paid them more than 3/4 of the agreed terms, now Aarons never had me sign the statue statement about "Returning Leased Merchandise" which I know they will not win in Court. But the question is in Florida, how long does it take for them to take me to Civil Court?

Can I file a civil suit against my ex-husband for legal fees? He accused of many things & I was cleared of all. I was awarded custody of our child, yet he continues to cause problems, refuses to pay child support or the $1500 he was ordered to pay.

You can. Whether you win or not is an entirely different matter. I haven’t personally don’t it yet, but anyone that ever takes me to court better hope I don’t win. Because I will be sending them a bill for my time. Loser is Court is always supposed to pay.

Civil case but arrested criminally on the same day, will they let me out to attend civil case?

If i have a civil case (warrant of debt) on day X but on the same day someone presses criminal charges against me and i get arrested. Will they let me out for a minute to go attend my civil case?

Can the citizens of Flint, Michigan file a class-action lawsuit against Rick Snyder over lead poisonings?

Can the citizens of Flint, Michigan file a class-action lawsuit against Rick Snyder over lead poisonings? As of 1/19/16 at least two class action suits have been filed against the State of Michigan by people representing the citizens of Flint. The question asks if a class action suit can be filed against Rick Snyder personally though. I guess they can if they want to, but I do not think it is the best possible strategy. While Gov. Snyder is certainly not poor, he does not have enough money to give anything like adequate compensation to the 100,000+ people affected by Flints water problems. On top of that there is the question of whether he is personally to blame, one would be better off laying responsibility on the State as a whole and potentially on the City as well (its complicated as the City was being run by a state mandated emergency manager at the time), than too try to pin blame on an individual.

What does trial by jury demanded mean?

My lawyer has recently filed my law suit against my counties sheriff derpartment. and it says on the paperwork "plaintiff demands trial by jury". Do I have the right to have this case heard in front of a jury berfore they can settle? Also, it says WHEREFORE plaintiff requests that judgement be enetered against the defendants in an amount in excess of one hundred thousand dollars. is this an amount that i will only get if they dont settle? also, if they settle, what is a more realistic amount that I should get? and lastly i was told that this could possibly be in the paper becuase of this being a civil rights case and the amount that is being asked by my lawyer. is this true? any and all answers and insight to my questions would be apreciated. Thanks!

What happens to high profile cases that go to trial, where the accused is found not guilty? Are these cases investigated further, or are they simply filed and forgotten?

In the United States a jury’s verdict of not guilty cannot be appealed, overturned or set aside for any reason. So in a sense a not guilty verdict ends the case. In another sense it doesn’t.O.J. Simpson was found not guilty of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in a criminal jury trial. At that point, he could never be found criminally liable for their deaths, but he could be, and was, found civilly liable. The family filed a wrongful death suit—which entailed additional investigations—and resulted in Simpson being ordered to pay money damages. The reason such suits are not barred by double jeopardy after a jury finds the defendant criminally not guilty, is that two standards of proof are involved. A jury must be convinced beyond a reasonable doubt to convict someone of a crime, but civil liability requires only proof by a preponderance of the evidence; that is, anything over 50%.In addition to the civil case many people continue to speculate and investigate the Simpson killing. Many other high profile cases where the defendant was found not guilty are still investigated (even if not for purposes of criminal prosecution)—examples include Casey Marie Anthony and (going back well over a century) Lizzy Borden. The latter was tried and found not guilty of the 1892 axe murder of her father and step-mother in Massachusetts. Though acquitted, like Simpson she was widely believed to be guilty and books about different aspects of the murders continue to be written to this day. Her case even gave birth to well known school yard rhyme: “Lizzy Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks. When she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty-one.”Humans are by nature curious. While a not guilty verdict may bar further criminal prosecution, it can’t stop people from speculating and looking deeper.
