2014 Toyota Prius Model Change Sale

Can a Toyota Prius C run if the hybrid battery is dead?

As already mentioned by others — no, and the reasons stated are pretty good. What I would add is this:I have worked on Prii (genuinely the plural of Prius,) that have done in excess of 375,000 miles (mk2 and mk3.)They can and do last, but these high mileage cars are being driven, which is important. If you leave a battery sitting around a lot — self-discharging and then give it a kick once in a while you're probably more likely to have a problem. Prius cells don't “sulphate” like a lead acid battery for instance but imagine a dry cell like a 1.5v AA battery for your TV remote. Sometimes they leak and you get all that cryatalised acid in your remote? That's the sort of thing that can end up happening to a prius HV battery. As a Toyota master tech working at a main dealer for the last 10 years or so, i can tell you that it is quite a rare event to replace an HV battery. Not saying it doesn't happen, but it isn't that common in the grand scheme of things <1/month.The same goes for inverters, there was a time when we were replacing quite a few (generally covered under warranty) but now, there doesn't seem to be too much of a problem. Inverters can be re-built anyway but during the warranty period, Toyota GB's policy is to replace the unit.HV transaxle replacement - the rarest of beasts, probably 2–3 per year at the most.12v Auxiliary batteries — ten-a-penny; due mainly to driving patterns. People buy a Prius for economy and in my experience attempt to save even more by only driving when absolutely necessary or only doing frequent but short runs (<3 miles.) This is a 12v battery killer; but they're miles cheaper than an HV battery. If I recall correctly — currently (in the UK):12v battery replacement - <£120Mk2 HV battery replacement - circa £1500Mk3 battery replacement - circa £2000Mk2/mk3 inverter replacement - circa £1800Of course dealers in different areas charge different hourly rates and can buy parts from toyota at different prices so there will always be variations in price between dealers. But on the whole, if you look after a Prius or anything else in the Toyota hybrid range, you won't generally have a problem. The mk1, 2 and 3 prius's do tend to use more oil than the equivalent engines in different models, again — driving conditions, different engine oil and the Atkinson cycle cam are the main causes of this and it isn't anything to really be concerned about, just keep an eye on it.

Where is the battery on a toyota prius?

The previous answers nailed it for location. The 12v battery is the battery that starts the car and is indeed in the trunk. It's life is similar to any other automotive battery. Upwards of 10 years is possible, but fairly unlikely. Climate heavily influences this. Extreme cold and extreme heat both reduce any battery’s life expectancy. The hybrid drive battery pack should be roughly under the rear seats or trunk pan area. This pack has a much higher life expectancy, but will still wear out over time. Again, climate plays havoc on the batteries.Early hybrids had battery packs that had to be replaced as a whole unit to the tune of $2500+. More modern units are modular and have individual packs that can be replaced. Still quite pricey, but more manageable.

What is the cost of a 12-volt battery for a 2009 Toyota Prius? Where can I obtain it besides from Toyota car dealers?

I got an Optimus Yellowtop battery from Amazon Prime for around $160 with regular 2-day delivery. It has very favorable ratings on Amazon and appears to be very high quality, probably even better than the OEM battery.A failing 12V auxiliary battery gives about a week’s worth of advance warning, by causing slightly delayed startup of the vehicle. This is plenty of time to schedule dealer service or to order a replacement. It would be nice if Toyota programmed the computer controls to give a more-explicit warning that the 12V battery is on its way out.Replacing it is straightforward for a non-klutz, and can be done with ordinary hand tools. The flexible plastic carry handle on the replacement battery is handy for maneuvering it into place, but it got in the way of reinstalling the cables. I carefully bent it out of the way rather than cutting it off, so it still can be used to remove the battery if it ever becomes necessary again.

How long do Toyota Corollas last?

I usually gauge this by seeing which old cars are on the road the most and i see a ton of Corollas. As others have stated, taking good care of the engine and the body are obviously paramount if you want to drive it for years on end. Get the oil changes done every 5k if you use regular oil and do the timing belt, water pump done at 90/100k. 200,000 miles should be no problem at all.

What is the trick to changing a tire on a Toyota Fj cruiser? It's jacked up, bolts are off but it's not moving?

It's often tricky to get a tire off, even with the bolts removed. Usually the rim and axle are held together by rust and road salt. Experienced mechanics have a move to put leverage on the tire without breaking anything. Basically you jack the wheel up off the ground, put one hand at 1 o'clock and one at 7 o'clock on the edges of the tire and give it a good twisting shove. Usually comes right off. Whatever you do, don't put your foot or any part of your body underneath the wheel or the car, so that if the jack fails, you don't get crushed. If that all doesn't work, a heavy mallet (not a ball peen hammer), liberally applied at the same two locations will often loosen things. Don't use liquid wrench or spray oil, as it is likely to get on the brakes...which will result in no stopping.
