What are the best Arma 2 Dayz mods?
Personally, I really like CCG's Dayz OverPoch. It is a combination of Overwatch, which adds a large series of extra weapons/vehicles into the game, and Epoch, which adds a really extensive modular base-building, a large amount of missions and a trade system. The combination of the two gives excellent opportunities for not only epic clan wars, but also creates a LOT of small scale gunfights around high-loot areas and the mission objective. This all without losing the "I cannot allow myself to die"-part that makes dayz so compelling, but, with all the new weapons and an opportunity to save gear in your base, allows you to get on your feet again relatively quickly.

Because it offered something for the first time.“Realistic” Battle Royale experience.Sure, there were H1Z1: King Of The Kill, mods for Arma like DAYZ, but no game was so good.You can play SOLO, DUO (with a friend) or with 3 or 4 friends (SQUAD) with ONE HUNDRED other players on 8km by 8km map. And there is one goal for you or your team. To be last one standing. And if you manage to be just that, if you manage to equip yourselves with enough guns, ammo and meds, if you manage to always be ahead of deadly circle, if you really are last one standing, you will be awarded with text saying “Winner winner chicken dinner!”. And that is precious.It left early access 2 days ago. After 1 year of early access and becoming most popular game on Steam and game with most players playing at the same time ever. It has been a huge success. New map has been released. Optimisations. New weapons. It inspired many games like Fortnite Battle Royale to be created. But nothing will rival PUBG. And yeah. I bought the game.
Why don't snipers from the US military use a silencer on their rifle?
First: its called a suppressor.Now onto the answer:Most actually would use a suppressor, if given the opportunity.There are a couple of reasons why you wouldn’t, however:Your weapon isn’t compatible with one: Only more modern versions of sniper rifles are compatible with suppressors. For example, the older M24 sniper system was not compatible with a supressor system until upgraded to the M42A2 version. For the M40, the older variants (M40A3 and below) aren’t able to accomodate a suppressor.Having actually carried a suppressor around as a marksman, the suppressor is a bitch to actually carry! Its a long , heavy metal tube that rattles around your webbing or pokes you at weird angles. You can’t leave it attached to your sniper rifle because it makes an already long, unwieldy and top heavy weapon EVEN MORE unwieldy and top heavy. Most of the time it goes in the field pack or day bag, and is only taken out when necessary. This however, also means that if you got into an unexpected firefight you wouldnt use it- waste of time.The suppressor is NOT mission critical. You don’t always need it. It’s useful to have, but you don’t ‘need’ it. Suppression of high powered sniper rounds is limited in effectiveness- it’s not like the movies, plus you actually hear a very loud ‘crack’ from the bullet breaking the sound barrier! If your mission means that you’re never far away from a large body of troops - guess what- the enemy is probably going to know the shooting is coming from the general vicinity of that big bunch of troops!Final reason: suppressors are complicated and expensive in their care- if memory serves they need cleaning every couple of hundred shots or so, and are generally a bit too fragile to be cleaned out in the field. This means that usage in peacetime is rather restricted.Edit: since this answer was published i feel there is a need to correct a misconception among the comments.It’s not that snipers don’t use suppressor. Snipers will still usually carry the suppressor with them. If the sniper has the luxury and opportunity to put one on his rifle, he would. Even if the bullet’s sonic boom is still obvious, the resultant noise is much less directed with a suppressor. Without a suppressor you can immediately tell the fire is coming from ‘over there’ versus ‘ in that general direction’ with a suppressor.But the suppressor is not mission critical and is not near the top of the list of things a sniper is concerned about in combat.

You might want to check if you've opted in to the Beta program. Open your user preferences, on the first tab (I forget what it's called), you should see a drop-down menu labeled 'Beta programs' or something similar. Change it to None if you don't want the constant updating.
