Is anyone good at math word problems?
1)Triangles. That's the problem. It might be 8ft tall while standing, but when you tip the bookshelf onto its corner (to set it up) we have a right triangle, with sides 8ft and 1ft, making the total vertical length: (8^2)+(1^2)=length^2 => length is 65^1/2 ft > 8 ft = ceiling height 2) Same triangle, different set up (max height)^2 + 1^2 <= 8^2 ft so max height = 63^1/2 so cut off 8-(63^1/2) ft from the legs. (63^1/2 = square root 63, to clarify)
