How do people stay in the same job doing the same work day after day year after year?

How do people stay in the same job doing the same work day after day year after year? You know, it really depends on the type of work you do and what your expectations are. I know a few people who are perfectly happy to do routine work eery day and hate being surprised with new challenges. They actually enjoy doing the same thing pretty much over and over again.I am the exact opposite. It’s probably partly my ADHD, and at least partly also my personality. I get bored easily and don’t relish boredom. Work boredom is worst of all. It gets to the point where I feel that my brain is melting and time slows down to a treacle-like drip of monotony. That would be my idea of hell. I really, really don’t react well to monotony. So I got bored quickly with jobs as soon as they started to get repetitive. But there are jobs around which challenge you again and again. I currently work in a small (6 people) company, and our clients are mainly design agencies who need to solve a client IT issue related to the clients’ branding and design. So we get calls with clients wanting to do stuff with Word that I would honestly never have thought of. It’s actually kind of fun. And again and again, we are faced with new challenges. So I’m happy here, but I have’t often been happy in past jobs. Except the years I spent robbing banks and hijacking gold transport trucks. But that was all simulated training exercises. Still, it was fun.I think that you need to keep looking until you find a job that is satisfying and provides what you need to stay sane. And - obviously - pays enough to survive with.

Is it required by law that employers give their employees raises?

They're not required to give raises. At the same time, you're not required to stay with them. You've always got the option of getting a job with a company that pays more. You've got a year of experience already...unless they've got benefits that you really care about, or some other reason to stay, don't hesitate to shop around for a better paying job.

Don't believe that, about them not being able to afford to give you raises. They just don't want to. You mentioned you're a guard...I'm assuming private security. Most of those companies will charge a business twice as much as they're paying you..and when you think that they're getting that around the clock in most cases, it adds up to a pretty decent profit for them. My husband worked for a company in TX 10 years ago...they said they were exempt from paying time and a half for overtime (not true but he believed it) and they only paid $6 an hour. Ten years later, my husband no longer works for them of course, but they're now paying 6.75 and they're still not paying time and a half for overtime and now they have a brand new, fancy building for their office...which I guess came from all the money they saved by not paying overtime.

There are two kinds of security guard jobs...contract companies and in-house. It's much better to look for an in-house job, often you'll get the same benefits that the office workers, etc...get. Places that have in-house security are museums, hospitals, and some other places. My husband has an in-house security job now, that pays 12.75 an hour, 2 weeks of vacation a year, 8 paid holiday days, 2 weeks of sick time a year, health, vision and dental insurance all paid for by the company...and it's a lot safer and quieter than any of the contract companies he worked for. He has so little to do that he takes his dvd player with him, or gets on the internet on the laptop they leave out for the guards to use.

Do you regret job hopping instead of staying at one company long term?

Absolutely no regrets. I've never had a job for more than 4 years in the last 22 years. One job I would have loved to continue was simply funded only for three years. I'm a software developer and possibly things are different in IT where you are required to constantly update your knowledge and learn new things, but I always took chances and I don't think it's viewed as a negative to work at a variety of places as long as you can back up your reasoning. Another reason for job hopping is the nature of the cutthroat American style of capitalism that treats workers as replaceable fidget spinners in a hypercompetitive machine. Companies often demand loyalty while providing very little in return. I've often found the best way to earn more is to leave. Want to do something new or tired with your culture and/or supervisors? Just move on. We're not living in our parents times anymore and life is too short to be spending time in any place where you are not treated with respect. Unfortunately it's much harder to adopt this viewpoint if you truly are easily replaceable so my one bit of advice is to develop whatever skills are necessary to make you in demand and in control of your own destiny.

What is the law concerning making employees stay at the work place when there is no water?

It is a total violation of not only labour laws but also Basic Human Rights to make employees stay at the work place when there is no water.
Please bring it to the notice of Human Rights Commission( either by yourself or through any member of public) and your problem will be solved !!!

How come jobs dont teach there employees skills anymore?

You are incorrect. Clerks and receptionist STILL are taught basic accounting and bookkeeping skills if the job you are performing requires it (which most do).
-- YESTERDAY, I was in the lobby of a factory waiting for an appointment and the receptionist was doing basic accounting.
- Every company I work with promotes up from the receptionist positions. Often into accounting, purchasing or HR.

Drafting companies will hire entry level clerks and at some point train them in drafting
Welding companies will hire entry level helpers and at some point train them to them to be welders (although, they will likely have to get certification before they can work independently).

And engineers have always been trained -- either from college, the military, or working through lower level positions.

No company in 2019 or in 1959 is going to say -- hey we need an electrical engineer or an accountant -- let's hire someone with no skills and teach them everything.
