Buick Century Overheated Now Will Not Start

01 Sunfire-Overheated loss of coolant and oil. Now wont start?

I purchased an 01 sunfire for my daughter in September on Christmas day she said she had green stuff coming from under her car on the right side. I checked the coolant and it was good so I dismissed it as her over exaggerating. Now its February shes driving the temperature went up to 198 she pulled over added coolant and the temp went back to normal an hour later she was driving home the car stalled on her. When i arrived at the car checked the "things" dad always tell kids to check the oil and coolant. The coolant was empty and the engine oil was very very low. Help I have no clue about cars,no money for major repairs any idea or suggestions. Is the engine done? Head gasket? water pump? HELP

A 1989 Buick Skylark with an overheating problem.?

I have a 1989 Buick Skylark 2.5. It has been overheating. I replaced the thermostat and pulled the water pump. The water pump is still good, but was leaking at the block. I have put the car back together, but is still overheating. Plus, now it is making a ticking sound, like its missing or a bad spark plug.

Buick century overheated now will not start?

is the battery dead? will it crank over with a jump?. might have gotten water or collant inside elevtrical systems, we need more info.

Sludge in reservoir tank of 1998 Buick Century?

a little backstory: i now have a 98 buick century that was given to me when my uncle passed away, before that i had a 99 century and she met her end with a blown intake manifold: overheating, constant leaks, just cold air out the vents, rough idles, the whole 9. anyways..

today when i was getting out of the car i noticed a strange puddle forming in front of my car (was parked on a hill) at first i thought i had spilled some of my coffee, but upon closer inspection it was coming from under the car. I checked the oil dipstick, clean. quick scan of the engine bay, nothing really popped out as strange. but when i took the cap off the coolant reservoir, holy **** sludge and brown water.

Now naturally my first thought was "oh great, another head gasket". but this one is experiencing far different symptoms than my old 99 buick. If i had not seen the coffee colored puddle i would have thought nothing was wrong with my car at all. she runs fine, doesnt buck or have a rough idle, doesnt come close to overheating, i get heat just fine out of the vents, and no check engine light has come on.

i remember an old auto sales buddy used to tell me that when dexcool doesnt get changed often / is exposed to air, it gets really crappy looking. upon closer inspection i notice there is a hole in the coolant reservoir tank right where the cap is, so air is definitly getting into the reservoir.

havnt checked the rad cap yet because im at work but i have booked an appt for a coolant flush tomorrow just in case.

the only reason i'm hoping its not the intake manifold or head gasket is because its not displaying the grosser symptoms of it like my previous, and practically identical, buick century. and come to think of it, since ive had the car (going on 2 months now) ive never checked the coolant level/quality so i dont know if its been this nasty brown color the whole time, or how much i may have lost. hopefully its just im way overdue for a flushing. what do you guys think?

Why would a car randomly overheat?

I have a 1999 Buick Century that randomly overheated one day and now works fine. It was a pretty hot day outside (92 degrees) when out of nowhere the temp gauge shot all the way to H. I pulled over and popped the hood there was a little bit of steam/smoke and coolant was pouring out of the bottom of the car. I had it towed home, the next day i put some more coolant in it and it started up no problem and now it runs as if nothing ever happened. It doesn't overheat at all anymore and it doesn't leak any coolant. I kno its not the water pump because i checked it out and its fine .. .anyone have any clue why a car would overheat just one time like that?

Broken serpentine belt, replaced but car will not start.?

My serpentine broke a few weeks ago and have been trying to fix it. I replaced the belt with relative ease. Then the car would not start. I located collateral damage from the belt shredding and replaced the Oil Pressure Sensor. The car still will not start. It turns over and sounds like it wants to fire but will not. When you press the gas down the car starts to fire but will not hit. My buddy thinks that the timing is off, and that when the serpentine belt broke it jumped timing. However, the car still drove me back to my house, about 30 yards, and was not overheating or anything, even some of the accessories came back on because part of the belt was still running. The next thing I was thinking is the Crankshaft Position Sensor? Or is it still possible that the timing is off.

My car overheated twice at drive-thru but runs fine after i park & add fresh fluids should i...?

When a car smokes we say they smoked the engine for failure to put fluids in. Sounds like you don't do any checking or maintenance. So here is what I can tell you. It is possible that you have a bad radiator cap and the water is leaking past the cap when it gets low it starts overheating over time, SO the cheapest thing to check first is The cap, you can take it to any auto parts place and they can test the spring pressure for you for free. You can remove it when engine is cold and look at the cap and see if the rubber is broken or indented if so replace it. Also your fan belts might be ok when you are normally driving but be loose when idling for a long time, look at the water pump and push down on the belt that it is connected to if it moves more than a half inch tighten the belt. if it's a serpentine belt tug on it to see if it is pulled easily if so your tension-er may be worn out and that could cause it. allowing the pump to slip and not pump water. if the fan is not electric and has a clutch fan it could be bad. to test it with cluth type fans when engine is hot it should turn hot when it is cool it should turn easly. If it's a electric fan run it untill it gets hot the fan should come on if not you could have a bad temp sensor or relay for the fans. NExt a stuck thermostat will cause the care to over heat in this case replace the thermostat and gasket and add new antifreeze , the antifreeze should be changed every two years as it loses it's capacity to cool over time. As for the transmisson if its an automatic and you ran it low at that was what was smoking your going to be walking soon if it is a manual you may be ok. If you smoed the engine=(Destroyed) the engine you will know soon enough. If it over heated chang the oil and engine filter because when the engine gets to hot it breaks down the oil so that it does not protect the metel parts it's supposed to and will kill the engine. Hope this helps.

Can I drive my car with a broken thermostat?

Yes of course you can! And, you may be surprised by just how far you manage to go, before the engine overheats, seizes, and turns into an immovable, useless, expensive to replace, chunk of metal! It’s probably easier to remove the plates, pour gas all over the inside, and light a match—the effect is about the same. Thermostats invariably fail in the “closed” position so the “shelf life” of a car with a bad thermostat is measured in minutes. You need to borrow a car and go buy another thermostat and gasket—-or at least the gasket. Typically, the cover is held on with two bolts, so use a wrench (or pay a mechanic) to remove the bolts, and then the old thermostat. If you haven’t been able to afford a NEW thermostat, use the new gasket to re-install the cover, and don’t drive too far, especially in winter, til you actually get a new thermostat.

Car overheats a little.....what should i do?

Wash out the radiator ( out side, sprayin water through it, like the air flows) with garden hose front and back. If you use a presure washer at the car wash work's good. But you have to be careful not to get too close. Don't use a brush or anything as this can damage the cooling tube's and fins., If you look really hard you should be sorta able to see through it thats when you know it's clean.
check be sure your fan's working also
Change coolant and thermostat.
That doesn't work, may need real good flushing or water pump.
