Can A Size 16 Dress Be Sized Down To About A Size 8 Or Is This Too Much Difference

Can you alter a size 8 wedding dress to fit a size 2?

Hello, I am a qualified professional seamstress with some advise.

First of all, just because this one bridal shop has discontinued this dress does not mean that every shop carrying that line of dresses is also discontinuing it from their inventory. So, first, I would positively sit down and make a bunch of phone calls with the designer and model number in hand to see if another store carries it. Chances are that you can get the dress in your size still. I would try that first. I used to work in a bridal shop long ago and often when a line is dropped it is not actually discontinued by the manufacturer, just that particular store.

Secondly. Hmm mm. A size 8 is a far cry from a size 2. That is three dress sizes. The thing about altering something that much is all in the details of the dress. Is there any way you could post a picture of the dress or list the model number so I can check the dress out myself. I can better give you my professional advise if this can be altered down to your size. The biggest details are if there are princess seams or darts in the bodice. Any skirt can be made smaller, but the bodice can be challenging, especially if it has sleeves as the armcye is a tricky area to be altered because it has already been cut to a larger size. I know a savvy seamstress can do the job for you if the style permits it, but without seeing a picture for myself, it is so hard to say it can be altered to your size.

In the additional details section, please either give a link to the dress or the designer and model number and I would be happy to take a look and further help you decide. But, first, please see if you can find the dress elsewhere as the changes are good for you there. I will check back later to see if you need more help, with pleasure.

And, a final word about alterations. If you go with the larger dress, find a private seamstress. I know for sure that the bridal industry makes a HUGE profit on alterations, more so than on some of the actual sales of the dresses. I worked as a seamstress in a bridal shop years and years ago. They paid squat to their seamstresses and charged the client oodles of money for the simplest of alterations. Please keep that in mind.

What is the difference between husky sizes and regular sizes in boys clothing?

My son is 6 years old and about 47 inches tall. His belly (where he wears his pants) is 26 3/4 inches and his inseam is 19 inches. He weighs just over 60 lbs. I know he's big for his age but the doctor hasn't expressed any concern because he's just solid, not fat.

Anyway, I've been buying him a size 7 pants and they fit him very well in the waist but they're so long on him. I was wondering how husky sizes run normally and if he would have a better fit in a 6H maybe.
I've been looking casually in some stores for sizes like that but huskies seem to begin at sz. 8.

Any suggestions??

What does "street size" mean in terms of buying a wedding gown?

Wedding gowns are sized different from normal clothing... often 2+ sizes larger than normal dresses. "Street size" refers to the clothing size you normal wear (i.e.: you normal dress size). So, if you're usually a size 8 in dresses, you might be a size 12 or 14 in wedding dresses.

Alfred angelo bridesmaid dresses - sizing?

My bridesmaids bought this dress from Alfred Angelo. According to the A.A. sizing chart, they all had to order 1-2 sizes larger than they normally wear (the girls who ordered 2 sizes larger have larger breasts)
The dresses all came in the right size, the only adjustments that needed to be made were in the length of the skirt & the length of the spagetti straps. Some girls also needed to adjust the bust somewhat for a better fit.

Why are wedding and bridesmaids dresses sized so incorrectly? I'm a size 8/10 and my wedding dress was a size 14. I ordered a size 10 bridesmaids dress and had to exchange it for a 12. Why is the industry like this?

Many stores and brands now use ‘vanity sizing’. A size 8 today is what a 12 used to be 20 - 30 years ago. At that time, a size 8 was 34 inch bust, 24 inch waist, 34 inch hips. Now that is a size 2.When you fit in a smaller ‘size’ by the number on the tag, you feel good and you’re more likely to buy the clothes. There have been a couple cycles of this. However, now we are down to ‘00’ being the smallest size, so the numbers would have to go negative! In wedding and formal dresses, they haven’t changed to the new vanity sizing. No idea why, maybe because you’re ordering the dress not buying off the rack usually. The assistant takes your measurements, figures out the size and orders it, so you’re not as likely to be motivated by seeing the size tag.

Teens: What size would you consider "fat"?

I just want to do a little survey to see what teenagers (and older or younger people if they're here) think is fat.

I know it depends on your height and build so take the average of 5'4 and a medium build and work from that.

Please state what part of the world you're in because a UK Size 8 would be a US size 4 and so on and so forth. :)

You don't have to tell me any of your measurements or your weight or anything, just what size you think is fat.

How many sizes can a tailor alter a suit?

Smaller to Bigger: one really cannot alter much. If the original suit had some margins (extra fabric provision), depending upon that one can add a little bit more loosening without disturbing the original structure and the construction. So its only half or three fourth of an inch max increase in size, which generally should be possible.Bigger to Smaller: Theoretically one can go as small as possible since body fabric is not a constraint but that may also mean opening the entire suit and replacement of key trims like shoulder pad and realignment or cutting of chest piece. Then it will be as good as a new suit made from recycled fabric. However if we strictly go by the alteration norms, here too one would not like to go beyond an inch of reduction….okay may be 2 inches but not beyond that…

If I am a 32/30 in men's pant sizes, what would I be in women's numeric sizes?

Possibly size 14 based on a men's 32 in pants . however since women's pants are designed/ cut with more room to accommodate the hip area, you may find a 12, 10 fits.Hope this helps and best of luck to you!
