Can I Contract Hiv Or Hepatitis From A Used Needle

Can you get hepatitis c from reusing your own needle?

People seem to be giving some really confusing answers. Essentially, the answer is No. You get Hep C from contact with contaminated blood, so if you're reusing your own needle, you're not really going to expose yourself to any bloodborne diseases you didn't already have. Reusing your own needle might raise risk for abscesses or contamination and other stuff, but not Hep C. The other scenario people are talking about seems improbable: you had HCV, you were treated and cured and are now reusing one of your own syringes from back before you were cured. Well, HCV can live outside the body for about three weeks. So if you were officially cured, say, two weeks ago and want to use a syringe that you last used three weeks ago…. I'm honestly not sure. I would think it's fine 99.99 percent of the time, because during the course of HCV treatment your viral load will be getting lower and lower and by the time it's a week or so before you are pronounced cured, it's effectively 0 already. However, I'd discourage it. Reusing syringes is bad for a variety of reasons, even if there's no risk of HCV. If nothing else, dull syringes wreck your veins.

Did I contract HIV from her? Please Help!?

I had sex with an escort from internet. I live in US. She is an unemployed escort who does this for a living. I am really worried about if I got HIV from her. She had bruises all over her. She told me she used needles before and used to take drugs. She went to jail before, and does weed to get high. The entire time I was with her, she was really tired and looked high. I asked her several times that if she had HIV, and she replied no to that. BUT, I DON'T believe her at all. I felt she was lying to me the whole time. I am 95% sure that she has HIV because her reply did not have any sort of confidence in it.

So, this is what happened. I did use a condom for vaginal sex, but before I put the condom on my penis, she massaged my penis with lotion to make it hard. After that I put my condom on my penis and then had intercourse. I was inside her for 2-3 minutes and then I pulled out and she took my condom off me. I heard that lotion breaks down latex and makes the condom HIV permeable. So, in this case, what are my chances of getting HIV from her? Thank you so much. I am really worried. Should I get tested?

Can a person get HIV from a sewing needle if that needle is contaminated?

How likely is it that I can get infected with AIDS after handling a sewing needle that an infected person pricked them self with?In terms of risk, if 1000 individuals were pricked with a needle contaminated with HIV infected blood, there is one likelihood that infection will be transmitted. However, this does not mean that you need to get 999 HIV contaminated pricks to get infected at prick number 1000. You could get infected at prick 1, 2, 5, 500………., or even 1000.The simplest way of looking at it as an individual is that if you prick yourself with a contaminated needle, your personal odds are 50/50; you may or you may not get infected. Thanks for the A2A

What are the odds of getting Hepatitis B from a needle-prick?

I can very well understand your concerns right now.One of my friend had a needle prick injury during our internship & so we had collected following figures for him then.Reference is Harrison Internal medicine 17th edition. The probability of getting infected with Hep B by a needle prick injury is around 33% in unvaccinated individuals. However even if one gets infected,96% recover completely & only 4% people go on to develop persistent infection. Out of these 4% people,67-90% recover successfully while only 10-33% people end up getting chronic hepatitis. In long run,20-50% of these people develop cirrhosis & approx. 10% of people developing cirrhosis end up with hepatocellular carcinoma. Now consider your case, you are already vaccinated. You already had three times more than protective levels of anti HBs (protective level is >10IU;L.) 2 yrs ago which won't fall in just 2yrs to less than 10 ,you immediately got booster. Also Harrison states that protection given by Hep B vaccine is 80-90% in first 5yrs and 60-80% after 10yrs & even after anti HBs levels are 'undetectable',protection is still afforded against chronic hepatitis. So looking at all these things collectively,I think you don't need to worry.Chances are nill. :)

Stepped on a used hypodermic needle. Can I get HIV?

I stepped on a tiny hypodermic needle(it was only the metal part, a bit less than an inch) while barefoot. Let's say it has been used and discarded in the past couple of hours. Could I have gotten HIV from this?

Can you get HIV from a needle prick?

Ok so i was working at a dental clinic and i was taking apart a syringe that was used about an hour before. As i was taking off the needle part the cap came off and pricked me. Can I contract HIV from this? The blood was exposed to air for about an hour because the cap, Im pretty sure, was not air tight. Also it was used in the mouth for anesthetics and did not have a lot of blood on it. I don't think any visible actually. Also the needle had to go through my gloves first too.

Can you contract AIDS from getting a Tattoo?

If the needle is dirty, yea. Tattoos aren't sexy though IMO.

Can you get HIV or Hep C from this? Can a doctor or any med professional, please, help!?

The lifespan of the virus is about 20 minutes, maximum, in a drop of blood that lands on a surface outside the body. Once that droplet dries, the virus is dead. No worries there. The chances of you putting the cut portion of your finger on a blood-smear that is fresh enough to contain a sufficient amount of live virus to cause infection is infinitely small.

In order to catch anything, you would have to bring *broken*
skin into contact with the fluid. The virus doesn't get sucked through membranes just like that. It needs to have some way into the blood stream.

And remember, once the virus particles are exposed to the air, they begin to die . After 20 minutes, there is effectively no live virus left. And a dried smear (which was not even present in your case), certainly, is not going to pose a very great danger.

Here is the bottom line: Don't worry. You need only
worry if you intend to have unprotected sex with a person who has been exposed to the virus. Minute tears and scrapes often occur in the skin during various sex acts, and *these* are the routes through which the virus is transmitted.
