Can muslims pierce their nose?

Im gonna re ask this, cause i wasnt getting answers from the right category. Well I just recently asked if it was safe to pierce your own nose, but now I'm a bit confused. I am muslim, and I'm not sure if its allowed or not? I wasn't always the BEST practicing muslim, but I am definitely trying to be now, so this is why I'm asking. Once again, my mom has her nose pierced. And I told my brother I'm getting it pierced and he said were not allowed to and that it's haram, although he's never really been a very well practicing muslim. He says he knows this to be true. However, my mom says its tradition to get our ears pierced and a nose stud and the septum. She says it's mandatory for muslim women to do this. She is a well practicing muslim, who knows a lot about our religion and she seems most accurate that were allowed to get our nose pierced. However, she was surprised to hear from my brother that it is haram, but she still fought back and said its not haram. Most of the women from my native family and both sides have their nose pierced and their muslim. Also, a lot of my friends who are also muslim have their nose pierced or say they're going to get it pierced later on. I want to follow the right thing to do, but I don't know who to believe? I strongly dont believe its haram, but I am very confused right now, please help. And Ramadan Kareem to you all x

Are Muslims girls allowed to pierce their ears and nose?

Hello Amy,

Yes, nose rings are allowed. I defy anyone to give evidence that states noserings are haram.

And here is a fatwa by Dr. Muzammil H. Siddiqi (Graduated from Islamic University of Madina in 1965 with a higher degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies. Received M.A. in Theology from Birmingham University and Ph.D. in Comparative Religion from Harvard University):

"The women are allowed to wear jewelry (earring, nose-rings, necklaces, bracelets, rings), but otherwise, piercing the body in different other parts (the belly-button, chest, tongue) are considered as makruh. Piercing the body should be avoiding except for what is normal. A lot of things that people do is an invitation to the ways of the non-believers. Islam reminds us that we should not immitate others in everything, especially the things that may lead to the disgrace of the body, mind and soul".

p.s. Makruh are discouraged acts that are not haram, like piercing a belly button or tongue.

Why do many Muslim women I've seen have nose piercings? Is it part of the religion or their personal style?

Hi,Nose piercings are mentioned in the biblical scriptures.“I put a ring in your nose, and earrings in your ears…” (Genesis 24:22 )(Isaac's gift to Rebekah, King James version and English standard, alter this just to a ring. Typically, which nostril do Indian Muslim women pierce?

Thanks for the request.Funny you've asked this question because I've been thinking for weeks whether to get my nose pierced or not.. really no joke. I almost booked the appointment to get it done but decided I will wait a bit… apparently after getting it done the pierced area becomes swollen for days or weeks even ..?Apart from this little fear and whether it'll be painful or not… I would still like to get it done. To answer your question which side of the nostril… it'd have to be my right side.. I'm right handed so makes sense.I do believe it makes a woman look attractive regardless of what nose shape or size we have. Majority of the ladies in my family have their nose pierced and it does make them seem more feminine.. it kind of adds an elegance and beautifies their already beautiful faces.Just to add I don't like those nostril rings or piercing on both sides of the nostrils.. it doesn't look right at all.. a simple piercing either on left or right with a stud looks simple and attractive.
