Can You Change A Stick Shift To An Automatic

How much would it cost to change stick shift to an automatic?

More than you want to pay. It is not cheap.

How much does it cost to change stick shift to automatic?

depends on year/model/make.. newer cars would take alot more since they tend to be over computerized for EVERYTHING and if your willing to tackle the job yourself.. lets take my car for example 1984 Chevy Citation X-11 that I pulled out the 2.8 HO carbed engine and dropped a 3800 series 1 from a 92 regal in.. It was originally manual but the 3800 never had a manual tranny and custom fab was more than I cared to do.. so I converted it to Automatic.. my list of parts were.
1. Automatic transmission *duh lol*
2. Brake pedal since you need to put the larger pedal in
3. automatic floor shifter
4. automatic shift cables
5. possible computer change, I didnt have to cuz the wiring set up I used was already set up for auto.. but youll run into wiring issues as well.. auto trans have park/nuetral safety switch as well as on some models a TCC *torque clutch converter* also the gear switches.. like I said it all depends on year and what not.. if its older like early 80's or before then you shouldnt have to much trouble but if you start creeping into the mid 80's and up it gets a bit more complicated
Good luck with it.. hope this helps

How much would it cost to change a stick shift to an automatic?

As a mininum about twice what it would cost to buy a much newer one that already has an automatic in it, and you'd get to keep yours as a spare.

Automatic or stick shift (manual)?

i heard many good things about stick shift driving, such as saving gas, more mileage, more fun to drive, and makes you pay attention to the road.
only cons i hear about stick shift is that it gets annoying when there is heavy traffic

so i wanted to buy a car with stick shift and i was talking to my dad, but hes like
NO STICK SHIFTS DON'T LAST LONGER THAN AUTOMATIC and such and such -_-
and im like if stick shift gets more mileage, how does it not last longer than auto.... (im confused..)

and he also said that since i have to manually change the gears, the gears grind and gets into bad condition faster than automatic
AND
he also said that it's not good for people who just got their license..
he said its more for people who has been drivien for long time.. is that true? lol

i think he just dont want me to get manual becuase he doesnt like it, which means that
hes gana have trouble driving my car when he has to.

so basically
questions that i have are :

1. basic pros and cons that i didnt mentioned above

2. is stick shift bad for gears? cuz they grind since i have to manually change the gear?

3. which one generally last longer?

4. do you think it's bad idea for beginner drivers to drive stick shift?

5. which one do you recommand and why???

ty~

How much would it cost to make a stick-shift car automatic?

It would be extremely expensive and pointless to get an auto transmission.

The '02 A4 is an awesome car (I had one). I never liked manual trans cars, but once you learn, it's extremely enjoyable to drive. Keep in mind that manual cars' engines oftentimes last longer and get better MPG. Also, driving a stick shift keeps you concentrated on driving and you don't get distracted as often because you're constantly shifting and monitoring speed/RPM.

If you still really want an auto, then sell his manual A4 and buy an auto A4.

How much does it cost to change a stick shift to automatic?

It really depends on the automatic you're going to use, and how many gears. But you well be looking to spend from $500 to $7000 to do that. My advice would be, sell your 05 & buy another 05 automatic. You might find someone who's willing to do an even exchange.. Good luck.

Can you use a rear end from a stick shift and put it into an automatic?

Yes but you will likely have to get a different driveshaft as one might be shorter or longer than the original due to the difference in the length of the transmission housing. and note that there IS an aftermarket segment that caters to people that want to change things in their cars and there are kits to do just that because you MIGHT have to get a different crossmember to accommodate the change but many car models have both manual and automatics and it would be just a straight swap and you can pick up those parts that are perfectly serviceable from a salvage yard, the possibilities are endless.

What's the difference between stick shift and an automatic car?

With an automatic all you have to do if you want to drive is to slip it into D [for Drive]. Similarly in case of reverse, R. Parking - P, Neutral - N. Those are the basic positions with an automatic. You just have 2 pedals.. The left fer brake and the right to accelerate. To drive you hold the brake down and shift it into D let go of the brake gradually and the car will start to move. Then press the gas and your off... same with reverse...

In teh case of a stick shift... or manual shift you have gears [usually 1-5 plus R fer reverse]. You also have 3 pedals... the left most is the clutch, the middle is the brake and the last one to the right is the gas. Its common to use your left leg for the clutch and your right leg for both gas and brake [you wont be using both together] To drive you hold the clutch down and shift to 1st gear. ease the clutch till you feel the car start to move. Once that happens press down on the gas and let go of the clutch. To change gears, let go of the gas and press the clutch. Shift to the next gear [Up or down]. let go of the clutch and press the gas again. To stop, Shift down till the vehicle is slow enough and you're in the first gear. Press the clutch with your left foot and slowly pres the brake with your right and you're done!!! :)

Although driving with a manual sound complicated, its not. Plus its way more fun and you save a lot on gas.

Hope that helped. Drive safe!

Is it possible to turn a stick shift car into a automatic one?

If you do the work yourself it can be done rather cheaply.. I converted my car from stick to auto for about 200$ total I got my parts from a U-Pull it yard so it was alot cheaper but still say in the area of 500 depending on what tranny you need and pedals ect ect.. I dont know where the one guy got 4500 minimal amount, I cant see even a garage charging that much since they quoted me 1200$ to convert one of my cars til I decided to do it myself and saved $1000!!! still it might be better to just sell yours and get an auto

What is the difference between stick shift and automatic??

the difference is that Asians don't know how to drive a stick!
