Can You Join The Air Force With Bad Credit

Can you join the air force with bad credit?

I m in about 18,000 in debt.. And I really want to join the air force.. I think it a great opportunity for me. And I will have a better live for me and my son.... Can someone please help me??

Can you join the air force with bad credit?

Yes, it can prevent you from enlisting.

The AF is the only branch that will pull a credit report on your BEFORE you enlist. If you have any late payments, charge-offs, slow pays, you will be required to contact each creditor, make a payment plan and submit a paper to you recruiter stating each debt, the payment you are making and a point of contact at that company. AND THEY DO CHECK! If you have over 30% debt to your new income ratio...you cannot enlist.

If you enlist and and you don't disclose everything, they will find it when they run your clearance, Again, you can be discharged for not being able to get a clearance if the AFSC you have been assigned requires one.

The AF is the strictest branch about finances. They actually discharge people for financial irresponsibility.

I remember when my husband enlisted, he had a medical bill for $100 that we didn't even know about. It was on his credit report and we had to pay it off (or make payment arrangements) before he could enlist because it was shown as past due. We had to provide the company name and Point of contact and the recruiter actually called to make sure that it was paid.

The AF does not play around when it comes to finances!

If you have bad credit can you still join the service?

Yes, the military really can turn you down for bad credit...but there are things he can do to make himself look better. First, he needs to contact each creditor and set up a payment plan. He needs to write down the creditor, amount owed, a contact name and number and the amount he will be paying monthly. Second, he needs to take that list to his recruiter. He needs to tell the recruiter point blank about his debts and show them that he has made arrangements to pay that debt off. This will show that his is trying his best to get out of debt. But he needs to stick to the payment plan. They can and do check. This will also help when it comes to getting a clearance. He will have to get a Financial waiver for his bad credit. His best bet at this point is the ARMY.

However, the Air Force and Coast Guard will not take him. Period. They are swamped with people wanting to join and can pick and choose who they take. Th Marines are very picky too.

Can I join the Air Force Reserve with bad credit?

I was really, really stupid when I was younger and racked up some debt, I'm in the hole about $7,000.....And I don't have a job, there's just no way to pay this monster off. The plan is to join the service and live on base and get this under control and serve my country at the same time. I don't have any desire to get into an AFR position that requires ultra security clearance or anything involving accounting, I have no prior enlistment experience. I can't set up a payment plan because I have nothing to pay with, I just want my life back on track. I was going through the packet and it asks if I am delinquentt 90 or 180 days...which I am....

Please only serious answers: Yes, I know I should've been more careful blah blah blah...it's too late for that now....All I can do is try my best to move forward and pay the beast what its owed....

Credit waiver to join the air force?

I have roughly 40k in student loans, very little credit card debt, and a mortgage. I just saw my recruiter and was told I had to submit a waiver because my air force salary (when i join) won't be enough to make my monthly debt only 40% of my income. With my wife's and I joint income (again when i join) our debt to income ratio will only be 34%...question is, will the air force grant me the waiver with this considered?

Bad credit prevent me from joining the Air Force?

I plan on joining the air force and myy first test is on Monday. As of Today, my credit score is composed of a creditt card ($1000 owed), and a maybe 2 or 3 other things, but none equally total 1000 together. So basically i ahve put less than 2000 on my credit alone but the rest is def not my doing. I always kept a positive record with apartment complexes and have never been evicted. I have always had a job for the last 4 years and I was in school most of the time with no loans pulled. I have always maintained a job but had to help my family alot therefore I couldn't pay off the cc. I found out today that a morgage loan was taken out under my name and ssn when i was 8 years old. My parents didn't do it (obviously....the address was a couple counties away from my hometown). I was considering filing for bankrupcy since i know i could never repay any loans for anything i did't take out. Will this stuff on my credit prevent me from getting a security clearance? Will bankruptcy hurt or better my chances?

When you join the military, do they clear your bad credit history?

HA! maybe what she misunderstood was that he'll have a steady income to pay back what he owes. there are also benefits like special companies that give loans to military for low interest and just take it off his paycheck. military banks also have special credit repair companies that are hardasses but help you get back on the right track. there are a lot of benefits, but wiping your credit history is not one of them...they do offer the resources for you to do it yourself though, and that is even more valuable.
