Chapters With Names Or Without

Novels without chapters?

I would read a book with chapters rather than a book without because it doesn't feel like you are reading a long boring essay when you pick it up. If you have ever read the Maximum Ride series, you would know that the pages are really small and the writing is big, yet the chapters are only two- five pages long. 1000-3000 words. Don't ry to change it though if you really can't. An editor would help you with that.

Please give me the names of how many surah (chapter)are without dot from the Quran ?

Why didn't elie wiesel name or number his chapters in "Night"?

I think it was to reflect the lack of direction and the feeling of being trapped in a situation without any tangible time-frame, labels, or clear information. Kind of goes along with the title of the book- Night. He was trapped in darkness and there was nothing to guide him along, no names, no numbers, no calender with the final day labeled on it...

When you're reading the book, you're just reading it. there are different chapters, or segments, but they aren't labeled and you are left with a sense of not knowing what or how much is left.

Can you name your chapters after songs?

When you write a book can you name your chapters after song titles without having to pay royalties? I'm not going to quote the song except for titling the chapter. Like for instance I was going to name one of the chapters after the Miranda Lambert song "White Liar" would that be okay or do I need permission?

Can I legally use the name of a song as the title of my chapter and also a verse from the song in my writing (See details)?

I don’t see why you couldn’t use a song name as a chapter title. I would reference it though. It is all about purpose though.Lyrics can be copyrighted to a certain extent. It all depends on how generic the phrase is and the quantity that is in what you are writing. For example a generic line such as “my heart bleeds” can’t be copyrighted in and of itself. If you were to lift the whole verse or chorus though and present it as your own work then it is plagiarism. Now the chance of you getting caught with such a minor infringement would be small. That is if there is even a legal challenge to be made on a single line. The issue I see you having is that you are consistently doing it. You are intentionally using someone else’s work within your own. There are ways round this though. I believe satire and comedy has more freedom in use of others work. So if it is in there for comedic effect then you could be fine. The chapter titles with a reference are easily used. Such a small piece with proper referencing wouldn’t get you into trouble unless the band in question were particularly litigious. Using the verse parts would be trickier but if you stuck to generic phrases then you could argue there is no copyright. One thing I will say is, why? Why do you want to do this? What does it add to what you are writing? I could see the chapter name for a song being essentially a music suggestion for the chapter, but if the chapter has nothing to do with these songs why are you using them? While legally it seems you would be fine why would you chance it?So caveat here, I am not a lawyer and only know as much as the next person interested in copyright infringement (I followed the games workshop vs chapterhouse debacle quite closely at one point). I would question your motive though. That is essentially what it boils down to. If you are doing it to purposefully make money from an unaffiliated connection to a band then you may come a cropper. If it is just a fun thing to do then you should be okay. Thanks for the A2A. Bit of a head-scratcher this question!

How to summarize a chapter quickly without reading the whole thing?

I remember one very useful site called SparkNotes.
You can go to www.sparknotes.com
It summarizes all the chapters, gives character outlines, and a personal quiz for you to take.
Hope this helps!!
