Concerns With Getting My Braces Off

A few questions about getting my braces taken off?

on tuesday i have an appointment with my orthodontist and he's going to do my molds for my retainer.
and then at my next appointment [2-4 weeks after molds] i will be getting my braces taken off.

i did drink soda and eat things i wasn't supposed to during the past two years but overall i took care of my teeth.
so i'm not too concerned with having staining [although i am s-l-i-g-h-t-l-y nervous about that.]
i'm also not too seriously concerned with the pain. i can handle it.
but for some strange reason i'm nervous about getting them off.

-also. i have two teeth that are smaller than the others.
the two between my two front teeth and my canines.
so. when i get my braces off my teeth will of course be straight but those two teeth will still be smaller than the rest.
my orthodontist and dentist both say that if i decide i want to 'fix' this that i have options. [probably expensive ones. :P ]
but i kind of think that my two smaller teeth look cute and give my smile personality.
i mean i won't have a perfect smile but i think a smile with personality and character is better than a 'picture perfect' smile. [all i really wanted out of braces was straight teeth]

so my questions are:
1. what is your experience with getting braces taken off?
like:
- staining
- pain
- and this odd nervousness i'm feeling [is it weird?]

2. what is your opinion on a 'perfect smile'?
- should i get my two small teeth 'fixed' afterwards?

thanks in advance for all answers!!

I’m getting my braces off in three days, but my teeth still have gaps between them. What do I do?

Go to your orthodontist ASAP and inform him/her. Mostly, after having braces, they install retainers or let you use oral bands to close the minimal teeth gap.

Does getting braces off hurt?

“Why does it hurt getting your braces off?”Mine never hurt after I had my braces take off. They just felt odd when first off. When they were first put on, now that was miserable. If you're having bothersome issues, speak with your orthodontist. He or she would be the most qualified to answer your concerns.

Getting braces off soon, teeth aren't that straight?

i just recently went to my orthodontist, he said that next month on june 13th i will get my impressions for my retainer and the month after i will get them taken off. the problem is i don't think my teeth are that straight! well it's one front tooth im concerned about the most. it it possible it will move to the place it should be in by june 13th? after your impressions for the retainer can my teeth still continue to straighten? im really nervous that i wasted 2 years wearing braces for practically nothing.

I'm getting my braces off but my teeth aren't completely straight?

So I get my braces off in a little over a month but I feel like my teeth aren't straight. My mom says she can't tell but my dad says he can sorta see it. You do have to really look at my teeth to tell but basically I feel like the tooth next to my front top tooth is a little pushed back (very little like something a retainer could fix?) but my bottom 4 front teeth are not straight. They aren't too bad either and I'm hoping that they could also be fixed by the retainer but I'm not an orthodontist so I wouldn't know. They were straight up until my last apt however. Maybe they tightened the wire too much in the front or something? Please help! Should I call my orthodontist? I'm also wearing rubber bands and I could be doing a better job at them like changing them more often(I do wear them all the time) but the rubber bands are for the teeth more in the back so I'm not sure they affect them or not. Thanks for the help!

Teeth aren't straight but im getting my braces off!!! help please?

You should discuss these concerns with your ortho. If you're not happy with your smile, this should be the time to fix it. Try to be more specific as well about what you don't like, which if course is easier when you can point and not on an online forum.

Should I get my braces off to join the army?

I know Steve said it wasn't an issue but I would think it would be a problem. I served 6 years, so I only have half his experience, but I don't remember meeting anyone with braces. I did some very slight research though and it seems like you are allowed to keep them, and even deploy with them. U.S. Army Dental Command Policy 07-08    lists that braces are allowed but not recommended during long term deployments. I would certainly advise against it because I've got sand in my teeth a few times and I imagine that would be much worse if you wear braces. It would be just as uncomfortable during basic training because you do a lot of crawling in the sand.

Are my braces ready to come off?

Ok, so next month I'm getting my braces off and I'm really excited, so by the time I get them off it would be 1 year and 6 months since I got them on. But here is my concern. My teeth look straight, my bottom is perfectly straight which I have no problem with. And the top set of teeth feels looks straight too, but when I put my tongue over the top set of tooth it doesn't feel straight. It's not noticeable or anything, like if I were to smile, you'll think I have straight teeth. See a few months in the treatment i got both my lateral incisors removed (idk for what reason) and both my canines moved in to take the spot. So, idk, the top set of teeth are I'd say 99% straight, there is just a little that isn't straight. I have the "thingy" that pulls you teeth together if you have a gap, so idk if my braces will continue to move my teeth or close any gaps. Do you think a month from now it will become straight?

Can I get my braces off myself?

No. Do not try. Call a local orthodontic office and ask whether they would be willing to remove your braces. I’m sure that they will be happy to help you. If your treatment is finished at this time, then you can get them to make you retainers so that all that expense and work was not in vain. However, you must go to a dentist for a cleaning and exam after your braces are off. Your risk of cavities skyrockets as you wear braces (they really collect food), and if you have moved and never got your braces off, you may need some fillings.Don’t take your health for granted.Keep Smiling!
