Did The Blue Eye Genetic Mutation Happen To Only A Few People

How are green eyes a genetic mutation?

Strictly speaking a mutation is a change in a gene. So if two parents both only carrying genes for blue eyes had a child with green eyes then a mutation is the most likely expectation. If two parents only carried genes for green eyes and had a child with blue eyes that would also be a mutation.A mutation is a change in the genetic code meaning that a child inherits genes that are different from either of its parents. Mutation might be caused by radiation, chemicals or just an accidental mistake in cell division in the process of producing eggs or sperm.Cell biochemistry is a complex tangle of interlocking processes and feedback loops. The chances are that a new mutation will break something important and the cell will die immediately. That’s the end of the line for that mutation. Some mutations don’t kill the egg or sperm but prevent the sperm from reaching the egg or if it reaches it from fusing with it. That’s the end of the line for that mutation. Some mutations occur in proteins that aren’t expressed until later in the fertilised egg’s life. If those mutated proteins don’t work then the fertilised egg dies. That’s the end of the line for that mutation. About 25% of human pregnancies spontaneously abort and mutations probably account for some of those.Against all of those odds some mutations don’t kill the egg, the sperm or the fetus and a child is born carrying it. The chances are that the mutation will still impair the child’s live in some way. Possibly severely enough that they never reach the stage of having their own children. That’s the end of the line for that mutation. But some mutations get through the obstacle race and get expressed in a fertile adult. If the gene is critical in the manufacture of melanin then none would be made in the eye or the skin and the condition would be immediately identified as albinism. Albinos produce little or no melanin anywhere. But the gene might only affect the speed of the reaction that creates melanin. If that happens in the eyes the melanin granules produced might be a slightly different size and that will be visible as a different eye colour. There are multiple genes controlling eye colour and the end result is a result of their interactions. So the rule that parents with eye colour X cannot produce children with eye colour Y is not always right.

Blond hair blue eyes =genetic mutation?

Yeah! We are X-men! Mutation all the way!
So what? Mutation is a basic evaluational tool. And lighter skin and hair is a way o adjust to a colder environment.
And you seem to have an obsession.

Ha-ha, you're a racist (pretty boring to say the truth), you don't even know difference between white skin and Albinism.
End of conversation: buy a real anthropogeny book and only then come back with idiotic questions.

How many Chinese people have natural blue eyes, due to mutation?

It's not always that simple. You can't just assume there will always be people with blue eyes everywhere just because a certain percentage of the population has them. Remember that blue eyes were a mutation that happened in Northern Europe (the default colour is brown), where the absence of sunlight meant that not as much melanin (dark pigment) was needed. In China, exluding some mountainous regions with litte sunshine, there is a lot of sunlight, so it's unlikely a mutation happened there.
I'm sure there are Chinese albinos, but they tend to have pink eyes not blue I think.

Black people with blue eyes?

They HAD to have had a couple of European ancestors in their history, as the gene for blue eyes comes from Europe, and is a real drawback in Africa. It's usually a recessive gene, so two brown eyed parents can give birth the blue eyed kids.

Blue It would let in too much UV and damage the eye pretty quickly in strong light, and that can cause blindness by cataracts. It's a bonus in lower light areas, there's the suggestion that light eyed people see better in red light (firelight) too. It's believed to be a very recent addition to the gene pool.

Edit ,James J, those blond black people are all Aborigines or From nearby islands. They have a unique mutation for blond not seen in Africa. Also, there is Euro DNA in Africa now, from colonialism. You get blond blue eyed Africans via Albinism too sometimes.

Can black people have blue eyes?

yes, it is very rare. but more common than you might think. in some african tribes, it is a requirement that you have colored eyes to be a witch doctor. and i have seen pictures of many black-skinned witch doctors with blue eyes, gray eyes ect. blue seems to be the most common, naturally occuring type of colored eyes among black and african people.

Is it possible for black people to have green eyes?

Yes, and not just because of European ancestry. Blue and green eyes occur naturally, but rarely, in Africa as well.FACTS: Black, African People With Natural Blue, Green Color Eyes: The GeneticsAfrican-Americans With Green, Grey, Hazel or Blue Eyes, Naturally Blonde or Red (Ginger) Hair, and Freckles

Why do german people have blond hair and blue eyes?

Eye and hair color are genetically inherited.

Today it is believed that blue eyes are a result of a mutation some thousand years ago and all people with blue eyes may be descendants of one individual. See

I guess this mutation occurred somewhere in central or northern Europe and stayed there.

The same principles may apply to blond hair. The genetic mutation took place about 11000 years ago.

People did not travel too much before the 20th century, usually they found their husband rsp. wife within 10 km of their place of birth.
