My dog is constantly itching and biting herself but has no fleas?

I have a cockapoo and he has the same problem. He is 6.5 months old and has horrible itching, biting, and sores. It sounds like she has a food allergy, since you changed her food and it stopped the itching, but after awhile, she could have developed an allergy to the new food. If you take her off that and try another food, it should resolve the itching.
Pepper is on a rice/hamburger diet. We make up a huge bowl of rice and browned but not seasoned hamburger meat. We leave in the grease to help his skin and coat. He loves it and it has helped alot with his skin. Pepper also takes 5ml of benedryl 3x a day, and an antibiotic because the bacteria in his skin is over active. It could cause him to have an infection. We brush him out every night, checking for sores, cleaning them, and putting anti-biotic ointment on them. We have been referred to the dermatologist but can't afford to go right now, so we have worked diligently at home to keep him comfortable and get him better.
As for the person that said your dog was a mutt, I find that offensive. Cockapoos are sweet, loyal and smart dogs. My cockapoo puppy pepper has been my husband's loyal companion since we got him, and with my husband in and out of the hospital, he needs Pepper to keep his spirits up. I don't agree with backyard breeders any more than anyone else, and I honestly feel that there should be a restriction on breeding (who can breed and how many litters per year should be allowed). I know that Pepper wouldn't have the medical problems that he has if the lady who bred him was any kind of a responsible person.
He is a sweet boy though and we love him. (Stepping down off my soap box)
I hope this has helped you some.

My dog is constantly biting, licking and scratching herself, but she has no fleas. What can I get for her?

You should definitely visit the vet for allergies, and like someone mentioned before, coconut oil does provide relief.I will like to add something to this though. Last year my dog faced a similar problem where he kept itching his paws at times very aggressively for a really long time. When we couldn’t find the reason to this behavior our vet suggested that the reason could be boredom and lack of activity. It could also be anxiety. You can try getting your dog a distraction like a toy, spend more time with him and give him lots of physical exercises.

Poodle itching, scratching, and biting constantly?

Our poodle has been itching, scratching, and biting himself for over a month now. I gave him a bath in medicated shampoo and it didnt do anything for him. His belly has red patches on it, and some of the hair has started to come off of the backs of his legs because he's biting so much. He does it and he'll whine and keep my sister up all night. I've told and told her to take him to the vet but she hasn't had much time to, and I don't either, but he's her responsibility. I'm sure it's not just 'dry skin' its worse than that...it's beyond bad, and it's getting annoying!

Does anyone have any idea what may be wrong with him and what we can do?
Please don't keep saying 'take him to the vet' because I know that, and we will as soon as we can, but we're trying to figure out what we can do for now. Thanks!

My Dog is biting and scratching herself until she bleeds??

I have a toy poodle, roughly 3 years of age and suffers from dry skin and allergies . Lately, she's been scratching herself on a snout to the point where there is a wound and her skin is raw (Near to the bottom of her mouth, both sides) I've tried everything. I've been to the vet 3 times regarding this issue, I have given her anti-histamine for the past 3 weeks or so, placed her on a buster collar, fed her omega-3 oil, changed her diet to a hypoallergenic one, given her essential oil on her coat, and even salt water bathed her using epsom salt. I've also taken it upon myself to disinfect her wound 3 times daily. However, she still scratches her snout and bite her paws non-stop, and I have to constantly scold her for doing so. I need help, as I have no idea how to fix all these problems. She's just bent on scratching herself raw, and I have tried my best to solve all her issues. Anyone have any suggestions on this? I would really appreciate that. Thank you.

My dog keeps scratching and biting himself?

My dog did the same thing and I found out what was going on. Even though he didn't have any fleas, any time a flea did bite him when he was outside, he would suffer from it for weeks. He was allergic to flea bites. You can look it up on the internet, it's called dermatitis. Dogs get it from allergies to flea bites even if they don't have any fleas on them. To treat it, you can buy a bottle of Hot Spot Treatment. It's best to cut the hair short around the areas where he is scratching, apply the treatment and in a few days your dog will be better. But I have to keep an eye on my dog and so will you because it will happen again and you just have to do the process over again.

How do i stop my dog from biting and scratching me?

Ok, stop hitting the dog first off, that just makes her scared and more aggressive. Seriously. No wonder she is biting you. Anyway, my friend had a puppy that was really really bad with biting. Yes, she was just a pup but they didn't want her used to it. They did several things. They used a squirt bottle and squirted her when she bit people. They also grabbed her muzzle and made her submit to them. It's like with the pack dominance. Also, use a firm voice. Don't scream and yell, firmly say No. Then walk away as if you don't want to play. And the putting her in the cage idea might work if you were consitent, but don't give in to her when she barks and howls. Then she thinks that that will get her out of things and that she is in charge. And lock her dog door so she stays outside. I totally agree with the exercise part as well.

If she is not playing, and is seriously aggressive towards you you need to get a trainer involved.

Dog keeps scratching and biting itself until it bleeds. Help!?

Hello. I am visiting my brother for the Holidays. Unfortunately there is a dog that his gf owns who seems to be the step child of the two dogs that live here. This dog is taken care of as far as food and such but is definitely lacking in attention. They are not so n ice to it. they don't physically abuse it or anything but it definitely knows it is not liked.

The dog has been biting and scratching itself to the point where it is bleeding from multiple places in the body. I feel so horrible and have told them to please take it to the vet. They said they already did and the vet told them to give the dog a benydril. I later talked to the gf and it seemed that they may have made that story up. Apparently this has been going on for some time before I arrived. i've been here for almost 2 weeks. There is another dog in the house that is about 2 years old. does not have these symptoms, so I'm not sure if its flees or what. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think they are worried about spending alot of money at the vet. I know if the other dog was experiencing this they would give it the attention it deserves. Of course, i am a guest and I do not want to be nosy, so I have to be careful about how I approach this. Thanks for all the help. Sorry for the really long post.

My dog has bumps on his skin and won't quit biting and scratching. What could be the problem?

It sounds as if your dog has bug bites or has an allergy. Some dogs are actually allergic to flea bites and will develop a bumpy rash from the bites. You also run the risk of areas becoming infected from all the scratching and licking.I would begin by taking your dog to the vet for evaluation. Flea bites are easily taken care of with topical preventative. Allergies can be a bit more complicated as you need to figure out what to treat it with. I have a dog that is allergic to some type of tree pollen and takes Benadryl a couple months out of the year.In any case it sounds like your poor dog is pretty uncomfortable. It shouldn't be too dificult to remedy.
