For Those Using Drugs Do Not Have Health Insurance .

Why does health insurance not cover various brands but covers others?

Simple answer! Cost of said brands. They’re in the business to save money and be glad they try. It’s your premium that keeps going up as costs rise. If you’re prescribed medication A but the insurance formulary doesn’t cover it but you MUST have medication A. The insurer may request a prior authorization to justify your need vs the cost. Usually this is approved but not always. Think of it like this: you like Puffs tissues with lotion but insurance covers the no name brand. You must justify the need. Most people can survive using the brand that leaves your nose a bloody mess. Prior authorization denied. Or you have an infection that responds well to penicillin but you’re allergic to penicillin. Prior authorization request sent in by your physician explaining you’re allergic and asks for another antibiotic, prior authorization given allowing your physician to order this for you & it will be covered by your insurance. I’ve over simplified this but you get the idea. It’s a money driven world.

What's the best health care you can buy for yourself?

I am assuming you are asking about a health care insurance policy. If you are asking where to get the best health care treatment don't bother to read all of this! There are a couple insurance companies that offer affordable health insurance. You customize your plan by selecting the amount of the annual deductible, and whether or not you want to add policy riders. Typically, you can add a policy rider to include maternity coverage, a rider to include mental health and a rider to include prescription drug coverage. You can include all three of these riders or choose just one or two. Plans with a low deductible (i.e. $250) are more expensive than plans with deductibles of $1000 or more.

If you are not planning on getting pregnant exclude the maternity rider as this will save you money on your plan. If you don't need mental health coverage exclude that as well. Whether or not to include prescription coverage is a difficult decision because it is an expensive benefit but brand name prescription drugs are very expensive and you don't know when you might need a prescription.

When selecting a company or companies in which to obtain quotes, stick with a well known company with an A+ or A rating such as Anthem or Aetna. Do not purchase individual health insurance from MEGA Insurance. They claim to provide affordable individual health insurance but they have so many restrictions that all or most of your claims will be denied. When you obtain a quote, review the company's in-network (or preferred providers) so you know whether or not there are in-network physicians in your area. Also, if you have any pre-existing health conditions, find out how long you have to have the policy before claims relating to the pre-existing condition are covered.

In additional to the plan design benefits, the cost of your policy will be depended upon your age, gender, weight and whether you are a smoker or a non-smoker.

Here are some examples from Anthem.

Male, 41 years old, non-smoker, no pre-existing conditions, average height and weight:

Deductible $250 with prescription coverage but without maternity or mental health is $219 per month.

Deductible $1000 with prescription coverage but without maternity or mental health is $147 per month.

Should Americans move to Canada because of changes in health insurance?

Question Answered: Should Americans move to Canada because of changes in health insurance?Unfortunately, if you are already reliant on your health insurance to sustain your quality of life, you won’t be immigrating to Canada. If you qualify for a pension, you won’t be immigrating to Canada. If you should qualify for a pension, but you’re still working, you won’t be immigrating to Canada. If you are being treated for health issues, Canada might be right for you, but you are not right for Canada. There is no open door policy. There is no show up at the border, get your maple syrup coffee and complimentary moose, boom, you’re in, ‘cause Sam’s yer uncle. You apply, and if you don’t qualify, you don’t get to move here. The effort is yours, the choice… is not yours.Answer: Americans with healthcare insurance issues probably cannot not move to Canada. For other Quorans reading(and especially people in countries that think of Canada as a stepping stone to the USA):Canada is not USA-Lite. It is not Alternative-America. It is not the United States of Sensible… whatever. It is not the United States of Second Chances. It is not the consolation prize for people who don’t get in to the US. Its not an escape hatch.Canada is not some colder, charmingly odd, utopian version of the United States. Canada and the USA are foreign countries to each other. It is an entirely different place. Different history, different values, different laws, different conventions, different politics, different future. All the rights in one country? They’ll be subtly or wildly different in the other. Some will be absent in one country, different ones in the other. The reason for various rights? Different. The civic holidays, the workplace laws and culture, taxes, school systems, different. Not better, not worse, just different. Each country has different problems, and understanding them requires understanding a different culture.Canada seeks youthful, educated, healthy tax payers who will be net contributors to Canada’s social programs for years to come. It is a hell of a task getting in, and its an even bigger task integrating. It is a breeze to visit, hard to stay forever.

Our healthcare in the U.S. is $3.2 trillion. Add that to the current $4.4 trillion and we have a $7.6 trillion budget. How do we pay forThat?

'
And, btw, NONE of that 3.2 trillion currently goes to insurance. ONLY docs, nurses, drugs, bandages, hospitals, etc.

We would have to pay every penny.

Can you afford double the taxes you pay now?

How do you feel about illegals getting free Medicaid health insurance pregnancy care is straining hospitals??

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/homepage/20070708_Difficult_delivery_for_the_undocumented.html
Looks to me like Federal, State, Local Government agencies as well as University and private sources are spending money hand over fist to give health care to individuals who are here illegally:
Since 1997, 14 area hospitals have stopped delivering babies.

Undocumented women constitute 60 to 65 percent of about 3,000 prenatal patients treated at city health clinics yearly,

Eight years ago, she said, "all of them were insured."

Drexel University College of Medicine is using medical school tuition to keep its obstetrics program afloat as it staffs city health clinics

Rocio, a Mexican woman living in Norristown, is scheduled to have her second baby, a boy, by cesarean section next Sunday at Montgomery Hospital.
At that point, Medicaid, the federal and state insurance program for the poor, will pay for her hospital care and that of her baby, who will be an American citizen.

In the meantime, Rocio, whose full name is being withheld by The Inquirer, is among an increasing number of illegal immigrants getting prenatal care at clinics run by Norristown's two hospitals.
