Help - Burned Plastic Smoke In House

How to get rid of burnt plastic smell from your house?

The only thing to do is to get a lot of fresh air into your house. Most of us have created the burnt plastic smell by having something fall on the dishwasher drier or a stove burner, but the treatment is the same. Lots and lots of fresh air is the only thing that will make the smell go away. Open all the doors and windows and turn on all of your fans. I wish I had a magic solution for you, but the smell of burned plastic is pretty tenacious and seems to linger until you get as much air moving as possible.

At least it's summer, so you won't freeze, but if you have central air conditioning you can open some doors and windows and let it help to get the smell out without making your house an oven, but that's a choice for you to make. Burning plastic releases all sorts of toxic fumes, so if you can't get out of the house for a while, at least stay near a door or window until you get as much of it out as possible. Depending on the size of your house and how windy it is outside, it could take as little as a few minutes or as much as a few hours to get the smell out.

How do I get rid of burnt plastic smell in my house?

I accidentally forgot that I was making tea water and the top of the tea kettle melted. My mom will be home is about a hour and a half! She'll sincerely kill me if you finds out. I need suggestions, please help!

Is toxic the smoke of a plastic burning?

I feel that your question should read as "Are the fumes of burning plastics toxic?"
Answer : Yes. US and other developed coutries have been advocating less use of plastic bags and other disposable plastic items.
The fumes could contain sulphur dioxide, CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons), benzene, and other toxic organic compounds, such as dioxin (CH2CH2O)2

Can breathing in smoke from burnt plastic be harmful?

I live with my uncle and he's the type of guy who likes to store pots and pans and such in the oven. This time, however, he decided to include a plastic cutting board and colander into his oven storage and I'm not really one to check the oven before I turn it on. So today I was getting ready to bake a cake so I preheated the oven and about ten minutes later I smelled burning plastic. I immediately turned off the oven and opened it to find the colander and cutting board. I gave it a few minutes to cool and then safely removed them. I then scraped off most of the remainder of the melted plastic from the bottom of the oven, but couldn't get it all completely off so I put the oven on a clean cycle hoping it would burn the rest off. Within the next fifteen or so minutes, though, the first level of the house was FULL of smoke. Again, I shut off the oven immediately, turned on the microwave vent fan, and opened all the windows. The dog and I are now hanging out in the smoke-free basement until it clears enough to breathe. I was just wondering if the amount of smoke he and I already breathed in could be harmful. He is a 200 lb mastiff so he can take a lot.

Question about inhaling burned plastic?

If your house is small or the smell or fumes traveled into the whole house then you might want to. I'd stick it out if it was just me but the little one is an issue. In that case i would get a hotel. If your funds will hurt because of it maybe send your baby to someone you trusts house for the night. OK now when not to worry. If your talking about a plastic drinking cup those will produce little to no dangerous toxins. For example if it was a plastic toy/teether that burned that could produce heavy toxic fumes. I am not an expert in plastic but there is all kinds of different plastics like pvc pipe which is a medium level toxin. If you have a headache and you think its no coincidence then go to a hotel and relax. Let your house air out. Throw a fan in the window blowing out and leave.

Can breathing this amount of melted plastic be dangerous? Help!!!?

My Mom and I were putting foil in the bottom of our oven and without thinking, she lifted the hot coil really fast with a plastic spatula.
It only burnt for around 1-2 seconds but when she dropped the coil a gust of smoke came up and we breathed it just a little bit.
My question is can that small amount of plastic be harmful to us or our animals?

Thanks

Is it dangerous to breath in burning plastic fumes?

I accidentaly put my easy mac in the microwave without water, and it burned. then this nasty smelling smoke went all over my house. I opened a window 10 minutes later, and googled it, some people say its extremely bad and I could die? are they really toxic? should I see a doctor? I'm worrying my a** off over here.

What toxic fumes come from burning plastic?

Burning basically undoes polymerization, regenerating the (often toxic) small molecules that make up repeat units in the polymer chain. Those small molecules can then combust further into other possibly toxic substances. The specific toxins produced depend on the material. For example, burning poly(styrene) (Styrofoam) produces styrene. It's this reaction, but in reverse:They also depend on the burn temperature, since styrene can break down into even smaller oxidized hydrocarbons. In this example styrene is probably the main toxin to worry about, though, regardless of temperature.(It’s not quite as simple as this. In general, combustion reactions are messy, and polymeric reactions are messy.)
