Highlights Not All The Way On The Top Of My Head

Half or full head of highlights??

when they do a partial highlight (or half head highlight) what they do is pretty much highlight from the temples up. it gives you the appearances of full highlightswhen your hair is down without paying for a whole highlight. if you tend to pull your hair back into ponytales a lot and are worried about looking uniformally highlighted you could ask them to add just a couple foils around you neckline. however, if you want your hair to appear quite a bit blonder, then a full head highlight is the only way to go. i personally think a partial highlight, leaving the underside natural looks the best. think about it. if you were in the sun, only the top of your head would lighten, so why not just do a partial and keep it a little more natural?

and thickness of hair doesn't affect the final outcome of the highlights, just how many foils your stylist will have to use.

Do full headed highlights or just top layer highlights look better?

A full hightlight is best if you wear your hair up alot that way it's through out the hair. If you wear your hair down a lot then you would be fine with going for a partial highlight(basically the top and sides..10 foils or less) Depending on where you go to the price will vary from salon to salon. The salon I work in a full foil starts out at $65 but can go up depending on the length of the hair, the thickness, and how much product we have to use. Hope this helps!

What are peek a boo highlights?

Peek-a-boo highlights are highlights that show out from under the hair on the top of your head. Like, the root of the highlight will not show. Make sense? I can't find any pictures either. But a good stylist should know what they are.

What can i do to prevent my caramel highlights from fading?

You need to use a shampoo & conditioner for color treated hair. Any hair products you buy should be for color treated hair. They will help protect your hair from the sun, thus protecting the caramel color from fading. Chlorine (swimming a lot) can also alter color.
After 6-8 wks you could get a gloss/shine (clear color) put on your hair to freshen them up. Keep in mind that in 8-12 wks you will probably want to get them redone to keep up with the outgrowth.
As for the other responses from other people - not all highlights are done with bleach, some can be done with color. Permanent color will not fade very fast - unless red was used, & for the most part, it stays in your hair until it is grown out & cut off. Semipermanent color usualy slowly fades over a time of 6-8 wks, sometimes it'll last up to 12 wks.

Whats the difference between half-head and full-head highlights?

Half head is from your ears up to the top of your head. They are also cheaper. Full head highlights start at the nape of your neck and go all the way up. They tend to cost an arm and a leg. Full highlights can also leave the ends looking spotty. I suggest half head with a very fine weave ( this means more natural looking)

Why are highlights so expensive?

if you think about it, it takes twice as long as anything else, twice the amount of products (foils etc.) and you have to be good at it because if you mess up, you are messing with varieties of colors.

What I usually do, is what they call a partial foil and ask for accent highlights. They'll do the top half of your hair and add some all around you hairline (neck and around ears)...this will give almost the same look but cost you half as much!

How Can I Convince My Dad To Let Me Get Highlights?

They do mean well, and if you're my DD, I won't let you do it either. I care & LOVE you more, but I will allow you to buy a new bag, shoes, whatever you want, but not chemicals that could give you an allergic reaction & damage your hair.

If you're a teenager, highlights makes you look like one of the mothers. IMO
I've done my own comparison during the festival when two teenagers were seated next to their moms. We couldn't tell which ones were the teens and which were the mothers. Except they're both giggling & texting, but their hairs are similar to their moms.

So if that was what you're trying to do is to look older, go for it!

Same comparison with older women, me for instance, one of my cousins told me I should dye my natural streaked hair, so I can look younger. Doesn't long hair make one younger, already? How many women my age have hair down to their knees, and can easily style their hair in an up-do style?
I'm in my early 60's, should I look like I'm 15 again? If you're old and you dye your hair, you're still old, IMO.
You can buy a variety of comb-in hair extensions at Claire's they're more fun and easy to do $5 than dyeing and change them anytime!
Example of one who highlighted their hair from YA: Before going on holidays this august i applied highlights that contained bleach on my fringe only and my hair started to fall out and bits of my hair looked burned. now i have holes of bald patches and had my fringe cutted off shorter.

Someone tried to have me dye my hair with henna. I asked him: "If I color my hair, how much younger will I look? "by one year younger'"

Calling all stylists!!! How to explain the highlights i want?

Okay so for the past 6 years i've been dealing with awful dreaded grays!!! Premature grays i might add! They are along the crown of my head.

I love getting highlights cause it really helps to blend and it is also cost effective and better for my hair not having to go back so often.

However, it seems no matter what I want I always come out without what I really want done. It ends up being an ombre the color at the bottom not top, or the color makes my hair too red/orange!!!
I have medium brown hair. I don't know why but I clam up with the stylist once i get there...I just about give the green light to do whatever..so it is my fault.

So how do I explain this to my stylist.

I want sun-kissed highlights all over. heck I am willing to just change all my hair. I want the highlights on top though that's the most important. That way I can just go in for a root touch up instead of getting color all over again. Does that make sense? I really only color to hide those grays. Highlighting makes it fun though. But I don't like the chemicals too much or the money either. So how can I explain to my stylist I want lighter hair and to only come back to get touch up on top and a cut. Would that even work? Thanks!!!

My hair stylist overdid it with the blond highlights (pic)?

I went in about a month and a half ago and got my hair chopped off and asked for blond highlights. I guess I should have been more detailed because after she was finished my hair pretty much looked blond! (I have darkish brown hair). Not only did she get me too blond, she didn't dye it all the way to my scalp which showed my black roots big time

Here is what my hair looks like now http://s185.photobucket.com/albums/x203/...
I want to darken it again (with a kit I can by at the store to do myself!). Is it ok to dye again over the blond?
