Honda Battery Cable Question

Battery Cables Touched Together?

Dont do it. could do alot of bad things. fry your alternator. ruin your cables. just dont...somebodys screwin with you. No good can come of it and alot of bad.

Why is my Car Battery Cable getting hot? ?

1. Did sparks fly when you hooked up the battery? If so, you either have a short or you got the cables crossed. Both problems will require a mechanic.

2. If wires get hot when you try to start it and the motor is spinning over. Then the motor isn't starting and your over heating the cables by using the starter too much.

3. If the wires are getting hot, but the engine isn't turning over then the starter is bad or the BIG wire going to the starter is shorted.

4. If only one wire is getting hot at a connection, then you have a bad connection at that point. A symptom of this problem is everything electrical shuts off when you hit the starter.

Questions about replacing battery cables.?

I have a 92 honda accord that has given me issues since I bought it. Started out that it wouldn't start on winter days. Then as the years went buy it does it any time of the year. Everything has been checked and replaced and chopped up to a electrical short. When it doesn't start its not that the battery is dead, infact often if you jiggle the cables or just try a few times it'll start. if that doesn't work then as soon as i hook on jumper cables it starts right up. So not to long ago I noticed my battery cables are frayed and (fingers crossed!) think that this may be my issue?!? How do I buy a replacement and is it hard to do yourself. I have a friend who is good with cars, just not electrical stuff, but this doesn't seem to difficult. I want to replace the whole thing, the parts that connect to the battery (because they won't tighten all the way anymore) and the whole cable because it is frayed. How do I go about ordering new ones that will fit?

What happens when car battery cables are wrongly connected?

Let's say the red cable from the jumper cables is the positive terminal, and the black cable is the negative terminal. The battery with the red cable on the positive terminal will be a +12 V battery, and the battery with a red cable on the negative terminal will be a -12 V battery. When they are connected together, then what you were doing is putting -12 V battery in parallel with a +12 V battery. If you do this, then the positive 12 V battery tries very hard to make the -12 V battery positive, and vice versa. Because a battery is a voltage source, each battery will flow as much current as possible into the other battery trying to equalize their voltage levels. The only resistance to this flow of current is the battery’s internal resistance and the jumper cable resistance. Together, this resistance might only be 0.1 Ohms.Car batteries can easily supply 500 Amps if the load resistance is small enough. So with 24 volts of difference between the 2 batteries, and 0.1 Ohms of resistance, 240 Amps will be flowing between the batteries. The formula for calculating power from current and resistance is P=I^2*R => P=240^2*0.1=5760 Watts of power. Because there is no work being performed, all of that power gets turned into heat. All of that power dissipating as heat will melt the insulators on your jumper cables, and it will melt the plastics of the battery, and it will cause the battery acid in the battery to start boiling.

On a 1988 honda prelude do you ground ( + ) or ( - ) battery wire?

All newer cars are negative ground. Sometime around the 70s british cars which were the last stronghold of the positive ground cars changed over to negative ground. Most of the companies here in the states (and there were many) found that negative ground worked better and changed over in about 1956.

2008 Honda Accord V6 battery light comes on and off. Battery dies intermittently.?

Have you checked both fuses #5 (7.5A) and #7 (15A) in the under hood fuse/relay box (UHB)? If the alternator and battery checked out good (Twice) by Auto Zone and a local mechanic then I would say the ELD has failed. The Electric Load Detector (ELD) is a part of the charging system. I do not know why the mechanic missed it. The battery cables, alternator wiring should be checked already and there is no wiring problem. May be because the PCM should have a code store in it for the failed ELD (P1297/P1298)

The Electric Load Detector (ELD) measures the main current flow and sends that signal to the Engine Control Module (PCM) to command the alternator charging system to get fuel efficiency and decrease the drag of the engine when starting.

The ELD has been in Honda vehicle for decades and it's located in the UHB (Under Hood fuse Box). See the video: It's not for 2008 but the location is the same (UHB)

We have a 1998 Honda Accord EX V6 and the battery recently started draining overnight. What could be causing this?

If it’s not a 4–5 yr old battery (which would be my main suspect if its that old), another cause that I’ve seen on some cars is if there are any lights on the car drawing power when the car is off. Sometimes this is caused by a worn out pressure switch (say on the door to tell the car that the door is open and the dome light should turn on OR maybe in the glove box OR related to the mirrors in the visors. It’s silly but those little incandescent bulbs (98 cars didn’t have LEDs) will drain your battery. One way to confirm if you have a parasitic draw is to get a multimeter (they can be had for free with coupon and any purchase from harbor freight or borrowed from Autozone under their loanatool program), turn the car off, disconnect the positive power cable from the battery. Switch the multimeter mode to measure DC Amperage and connect touch the positive to the positive battery post and the negative to the positive battery cable. If anything is reading over 20–25 miliamps (0.020A), something in your car is drawing power when it shouldn’t.How to Find a Parasitic Battery DrainThis is a very simple test that anyone can perform. Or, just take it to your mechanic and pay them their “diagnostic” fee to do the same thing.

New car battery terminals are opposite and the cables don't reach?

you bought the wrong battery,..two batteries can be the same everything..............height...... width.... power ( CCA ) and have the pos. & neg opposite. ends of the batttery........for different cars

Honda accord battery - horn activates when trying to jump start?

<>Your battery is probably too far gone...how old is it? The horn is going off because there is just enough juice to trigger the horn relay, but not enough to start the car. Putting in a new battery should do the trick. Oh, and if you are having someone do the work, have them check your alternator, too.
