How Can I Bring The Wifi Range Downstairs

My internet only works downstairs?

Whenever i take my computer downstairs everything with my computer works great and all the wifi bars are full. Then when i take it upstairs the connections goes away for like 5 miuntes..then it comes back for like 3 minutes..and all the wi fi bars are full. The home computer and my dads laptop work fine upstairs and downstairs so i dont think its a problem with internet connection or anything. How do i fix this?

Why is my wifi slow when i'm upstairs?

It has to do with the radio signal strength. The stronger the signal the better and faster your computer can work on the Internet.

What can you do about it?

What’s a WiFi Repeater?
November 22nd, 2011

If a user needs to increase the strength or range of their wireless network, a Wifi repeater could be the simplest and most cost effective solution. Wifi repeaters are ideal for users that are having Wifi connectivity problems due to being in a building that has brick walls, has multiple floors that are built out of concrete, or by being at site that is bigger in area than the 1,000 foot square foot range of a typical wireless router.

When a Wifi repeater is installed, it “listens” for any Wifi broadcasts from existing Wifi routers or wireless network devices such as laptops and tablets. Any signal that is picked up by the repeater is then rebroadcast. In order to install a repeater, it simply needs to be to plugged into a power outlet. It can then be logged into by a computer on the network so that any login information and passwords that are required by the existing Wifi network can be set up on the repeater. This essentially creates a wireless network that is a duplicate of the one being broadcast by the original router.

To maximize the range of the repeater, it should be placed at the limit of broadcast range of the original router while still maintaining a quality connection. This will effectively double the effective range of the wireless network. Since users are connecting either to the original router or the repeater, computers will have to disconnect from one and reconnect to the other if they move back and forth between the broadcast range of each device. Wifi repeaters do not have to match the particular brand of the original router, and can be configured to work with many types of network addressing, security and sub-netting setups.

Router better upstairs or downstairs?

So i moved in to a 2 level penthouse, and when we asked for internet they came to leave the router upstairs, and ever since we've had this bad signal downstairs, really bad, so i was thinking wouldnt it be better if my router was down stairs? And would i still get wifi upstairs? I have my xbox in my living room so i get laggy games because of this, so what should i do? Should i leave it upstairs or should i bring it downstairs?

Router upstairs poor signal downstairs?

i decide to put my router upstairs because my oc and my ps3 are there and i want a wired connection on them but my laptop stays downstairs. Every single day at random times the network fails for like 10 sec and then it comes back and then again and again and again until the laptop gets a good signal. Could this be the laptop's problem because it gets vary poor signal on my router cuz it couldn't be my ps3 or pc because they are wired connection. please give me an answer. this problem drives me insane. I cant play online games on my ps3 because the network fails. i cant work on my pc because the network fails. and i blame the laptop

Constantly having to reboot Belkin N300 wireless range extender?

I recently purchased the Belkin N300 Wifi Range Extender because the room that I am living in (I stay in the bonus room of a family's home) gets extremely poor signal strength. My Xbox One for example would say signal strength was 35-40%. I bought the range extender and plugged it in downstairs, which was a lot closer to the router/modem, and signal strength went up to about 65%. I moved the range extender to the edge of my room upstairs, and signal strength was up to about 85-90%, download speeds went from 2-3Mbps to 8-9Mbps, etc.

Problem is that it doesn't consistently stay connected. With my laptop for example, when I try to connect to the repeater Wifi, it just gives me the error message that it "cannot connect", while I can connect to the weaker normal Wifi signal. With my Xbox One, it often says it "cannot establish connection". My cell phone just says it is trying to connect, and it acts as if it is connected but I do not have any Wifi icon, so I get no connection. My solution is always to unplug the repeater for about 30 seconds, plug it back in, wait for it to configure, and then it works again.

I just hate having to unplug it 10 times a day to get it to work. Does anyone know why this is constantly happening? I feel like ripping my hair out when I just want to turn something on and for it to work, and then I end up having to play around with it for 2-3 minutes almost each time just to get it to work.
