How do I mark thousands of emails as read?

Ha ha! Figured it out - I'm sure there's a better way but I 1 - sorted by unread 2 - used the scroll bar on the right to scroll down as far as I could (about 1000s messages at a time) 3 - selected the box drop down arrow next to the delete button and 4 - selected Unread and 5 - selected Actions > mark as read. Took about 10 minutes to work through the 10,000 messages. Thanks to all for your help!

Can your 6 year old read and write?

My two kids who are past first grade happened to be strong readers and could read complicated chapter books in first grade. But I'm not sure my other kids will be at that point (my 5-year-old is only on the easiest of easy readers at the moment), and I totally agree that being a strong reader at the very beginning of first grade (especially for someone who just turned six, and especially for boys, who generally start later) is just not a developmentally appropriate expectation. It's like chiding the kids who can't walk at their first birthday because other kids were walking from 10 months.

In your position I'd read to him daily, give him a chance to read to himself or you daily, and find stealth opportunities for him to write (signs for the block tower, menus, etc.). I'd probably ask the teacher what else she thinks I could be doing to help from my end. But I wouldn't be putting him with a tutor just because he can't read right after his sixth birthday, nor would I let anyone communicate to him that there's something wrong with him for not being a strong reader yet. The teacher is probably under pressure because of the increased emphasis on testing/ No Child Left Behind/ etc. That doesn't make kids suddenly reach milestones like learning to read faster, though, and it doesn't mean there's something wrong with your son!

I just read a really interesting book about (among other things) these issues of pressuring boys too early to do things they'll be perfectly ready for a little later ... try "The Trouble with Boys" by Peg Tyre.

Does Jeff Bezos personally read the emails sent to jeff@amazon.com?

I don’t think so. Below, Jeff’s secretary read & responded to my email. And there is something very troubling about what she/Amazon sent. The reason I wrote Jeff, was simply to alert him to a new technology I’m developing. Something that would shoot Amazon’s sales even further through the roof. But what I got in return was alarming.Below, is a screenshot from the Amazon link in the email above…Let me tell you what it says in a nutshell… “We don’t accept or invest in businesses unless we’ve contacted you first.” … “But go ahead and send your business proposal to us, so we can steal your idea.”If I were an Amazon shareholder, I’d be pissed! Isn’t Amazon responsible to its shareholders to be on the cutting edge of technology, so that their investment capital (shares) go up in value? Well, let me ask the obvious question…How does Amazon expect to be on the cutting edge, if they rely ONLY upon themselves to find new innovation… Unless they’ve got a psychic who can see through closed doors, they could only find innovation in the open market — where everyone else has already seen it!In other words, Amazon shareholders are trusting Amazon to be “First to Market”, yet their protocols assure Amazon will be “Late to the Game”.As if that isn’t bad enough, Amazon makes it 100% clear they reserve the right to implement your idea. This is sickening. Apparently, Amazon has no corporate accountability to society, it’s shareholders, or to fellow startup businesses. They’ve outright declared themselves to be prideful thieves.Needless to say, I didn’t submit my proposal.
