Can I force my computer to reconnect to network drives without rebooting?

My computer is connected to an external SCSI array, and lately, it keeps losing the drive. The drive letter just disappears from My Computer/Windows Explorer. If I reboot, the computer finds it again, so I feel like my cable is fine and the SCSI card is working. Is there a way I can set some sort of scheduled task in Windows to reconnect automatically to the SCSI drives every hour or two so the connection is not lost overnight when it is needed the most and no one is awake to fix it?

I get a warning, "Could not reconnect all network drives". Help?

I have a new Inspiron One 2330 computer and when I start it up a warning balloon shows near the bottom right of the screen that says, "Could not reconnect all network drives. Click here to check the status of your network drives".
► When I click there, it mentions drive "z". Is this important? How can I make it stop posting that warning?

I don't think I do any networking (whatever that is.). I live alone and don't share the computer with anyone. I do use a wireless printer, mouse and keyboard (perhaps that means networking.) I don't use any other things to access my computer such as Ipad, notepad, phone or other devices.

How do I factory reset the LaCie D2 Network drive?

I had this exact problem yesterday. I registered my drive and opened a ticket on LaCie's support site.

I renamed my device and the GUI crashed. Here is the response that I received. I followed the instructions and it worked fine. I had to do it three times because I held the front button for too long when it turns a steady red. When it becomes a steady red, release the button right away.

Response from LaCie Support:

Thank you for contacting LaCie Technical Support.

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems with your LaCie product.

What did you change the drive's name to? Did you try refreshing the web page?

Here is the reset procedure for the D2 Network and BigDisk Network products.

1. Switch OFF the product.
(Once OFF, the product's back power switch MUST be on the OFF position.)

2. PUSH the front button and KEEP IT PRESSED.

3. MOVE the back power switch to the ON position.
(The front button's LED will start blinking Blue & Red.)

4. Once the front button's LED stops blinking and is stable RED, RELEASE the front button.
(Once released, the front button's LED will start blinking Blue.)

5. When the front button's LED stops blinking again and is stable Blue, PUSH the front button and RELEASE it. This confirms the reset/

6. Leave product rebooting, you are done. (The product is now restoring itself to its factory defaults.)

>> The Administrator Password is reset to "admin"
>> Shares are renamed as "Recovered_oldname", but there should be no data loss
>> All other configurations are lost.

USB VS Sata Hard drives?

The external SATA interface has a name -- eSATA. eSATA is much faster then USB2.0. USB 2.0 capable of up to 30-35 MB/sec real bandwidth. eSATA can do at least several times faster, up to 300 MB/sec. Like USB 2.0, eSATA is PnP interface and you can disconnect and reconnect it at will, at any time. There are now devices with both interfaces -- like Thermatake HDD docking station I use:
http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1346&ID=1731

If your computer has no eSATA interface, you are going to need the eSATA interface card (they are cheap). You definitely do not need USB to eSATA adapter. The other option include buying external eSATA connector to your existing SATA ports:
http://www.amazon.com/1FT-Sata-Esata-Plate-Profile/dp/B001DN4IPQ

you'll get the SATA connection with the same cable, but there will be no PnP support. But it is cheaper then eSATA card.

Good luck!

How do I check if Windows network drive will automatically mount on boot?

They dont mount on boot, they mount on login.  To do this you need to make the mount persistent at the time you mounted it.I dont recall how to check in the GUI as i am a console person primarily.  From the console (Command Prompt), use the command: net useThis will list all current connections, and for finer details about any specific mount, type: "net use g:" but replace g: with the drive of interest. If you want to ensure all current drives are persisted, use "net use /persistent:yes" to set all currently mounted drives to persist regardless of current state.
