How Do I Get My Stubborn Budgie To Eat Healthy

How do I make my budgie not fly away, and almost hurt himself when I take him out of his cage?

I infer through that question that your bird is not well accustomed with its surroundings, and may even not be accustomed to you. Many owners like to cut/clip their bird’s wings to prevent the bird from flying and therefore establishing trust between the owner and the bird every time the owner helps the bird. I personally don’t prefer doing that, just because birds lose one of their most treasured abilies: flight. Birds should get lots of flight daily to maintain good health, and can feel trapped without flight.Accustoming yourself with your bird and having it slowly warm up to you is the best way for it to return to its cage. It may be stubborn, like my cockatiel, but you should let it fly around a bit. It might just want some exercise and free time!Take your time with the progress of your bird, and if your bird doesn’t want to come out, don’t force it. I advise leaving the cage door open and letting he/she come out when they feel ready.Hoping for the best with you and your budgie! Don’t force it to do anything it isn’t comfortable doing, and I hope you establish a good bond with it!

How do i get my budgies to eat fruits and veggies?

i have had my budgies for about 3 years and i was told( by the pet store people) that all i had to feed them were seeds. but i recently found out that they need fruits and veggies how do i introduce them to there diets and which ones r best for them. the seeds that i feed them say that it has fruit and veggies in it is that enough or do i need to give them fresh stuff??

Budgie eating problem?

Try a variety of seeds and sprouts. Also to introduce them to vegetables I like to start with broccoli because the little darker green parts on the top look like seeds to them and they like to eat it right up. My two budgies won't eat anything except for broccoli, leafy vegetables, some seeds and sprouts, and zupreem fruity flavored pellets. If you want to convert your budgie to pellets, which I highly recommend because they have so much nutrients, your gonna wanna mix whatever seeds your bird will eat with pellets and water and mush it up until it's the texture of cookie dough. You can leave this in the cage for 6-8 hours before it dries up and becomes hard. Slowly add less and less seeds over the course of a week but make sure you bird still eats it. Once it's just pellets and water slowly add less and less water until you can serve it dry. I hope this helped.

How can I train my stubborn budgies?

One is female n one is male but i don't know who's who. Anyways, I want to train both of them to come on my finger when I say up or come close. Theyre new m they don't eat snacks yet. One's cere is light blue n the other Inez's is light brown or pink. How can I train my budgies to come near me when I come near them n how can I train them to hop on my finger when I bring it close? My friends cockateil is very fond of him. His cockateil is barely clipped do he can fly but he doesn't when my friend takes him out for a walk. I want my friend's bird to act like mine. I want them whistle when I whistle. Please help me.

What do Parakeets (Budgies) eat in the wild, my book says to feed them mainly fruits and veggies as opposed to seed, is this what they eat in the wild?

Budgerigars do not eat much fruit or veggies in the wild. They do not live in a tropical area like some other parrots, so any fruit they would eat would most likely be sun-dried. A variety of nuts and seeds is a natural diet for a budgerigar. However, it is difficult to try to completely replicate the diet of a wild budgie, and trying to feed them seeds and nuts too much can be unhealthy and may cause weight gain. I recommend giving your bird(s) pellets (Zupreem is a good brand) as well as fruits and veggies on the side. Fruits and vegetables are good for them, but they may not be eager to try it, which is natural. They are more likely to try the vegetables, which you can mix with their pellets.Your budgie's diet should be about 60% pellet, nut (UNSALTED), grain, and seed, 10–20% veggies, and 5% fruit. Some healthy fruits and veggies for budgies include carrots, bananas, yams, broccoli, grapes, mango, peppers, strawberries, kale, apples, and cauliflowers. Grains to give them include quinoa (a favorite for many birds), oats, wheat, and rye. Seeds to give them include fennel, millet, sunflower, poppy, chia, and sesame. Keep in mind that seeds can be fattening. You also might want to check with your avian veterinarian to see if the diet you put them on is healthy. They can help you decide what foods are best for your bird(s) individually.

I have the biggest budgie prob?

So i bought a yellow budgie frm petsmart yesterday in ancaster they were healthy and all checked upvhe is 3 months
i brought him home and like my old budgie i had 4 years ago i let him out
His wings r clipped but he still flies
so the night passe he didnt eat
and now in the morni g he lets me touch him or my hand is really close to him and he doesnt mind
but he just runs away frm the food and wont eat
i put my hand nd strked his tail feather and he basically didnt fly away(wings r clipped but he still flies) den i put food tray (i used a small ice tray half food half water) he runs away he looks at the food den when the tray touches him he runs away
i know budgies r stubborn and will starve demselves idk what to do im worried sick

My parakeet won't eat pellet, or healthy 'real food', only seeds. What should I do?

Some budgies can be very stubborn to change their food. The chances are she wasn't raised being fed anything other than seed and millet.

A littler persistence can go a long way. ;) Keep trying with her. Sometimes even eating, say the fruit like apples, in front of her can even encourage her to try it. That's how my budgie has such a varied diet: he thinks anything I can eat, he can eat. :S Maybe placing it close to a favourite toy might also help. I wouldn't encourage taking away her seed and force her to eat something else. If she doesn't know it's edible, she'll starve! It's more of sparking her interest in them, and it could also be that she simply doesn't like the taste. If I may say, it is much better to vary their diets, but I do know many people who have only ever fed their birds on seed and they lived full, healthy lives too, so it's no train smash if she never eats anything else. ;) Seed, millet and water are the main foods.

Best of luck. ;)

Seed/pellet diet for my budgie?

So, I know budgies need both to be healthy but there are so many brands of seed and pellets out in the market and I'm having trouble deciding which is best for my bird. Any recommendations? I want it to be as healthy as it can be, so please give your best recommendations :), also, should I feed seed AND pellets at the same time? or separately? thanks!!!
