How do I open a broken car door with the child lock engaged?

My Ford Explorer's back door handle broke. It cannot be opened from the outside. I had engaged the child lock several days prior and now can't figure out how to open the door from the inside or out. My husband has the tools and know how to fix the handle, but we just don't know how to get the door open in order to do so. Is there a way to open it without breaking anything further? I'd rather not go to the dealership and spend $100 to get them to open it for me. Any help or even suggestions will be appreciated.

My car door lock wont open on the driver's side, from the outside. How can I fix it myself?

That random stranger did you no favors. He was trying to pick the lock, but evidently had no skill at it.

Do this:

Roll the window all the way up.

Open the door.

Remove the trim plates, arm rest, anything that shows a screw head. Don't forget speaker surrounds.

Go all around the entire interior panel with a wide, flat tool like a flexible scraper, prying carefully to pop the panel loose from its clips. Auto parts places sell tools specifically for panel removal; look into getting one. They're handy.

Be prepared to buy new clips to replace any that break.

There will probably be a vinyl film inside to further protect the door's interior. Pull slowly and gently; it will come off. Try not to stretch it.

You should now be able to get to the fasteners and remove the door handle. Take the door handle to a locksmith to have all the junk removed from the keyway, or possibly to have the lock cylinder replaced. It's very difficult to do that job yourself, but it's also wicked pricey to have the locksmith come do it onsite.

Alternatively you can open up both doors and replace both locks simultaneously; the dealer's parts department can easily provide matched locks.

Reinstall everything in reverse order.

Smack the next random stranger that approaches your locked door with his homebrew lockpick saying he can "help."

NOTE: some locksmiths - esp. the good ones - will have your lock for a day or two. Be prepared to lock your car into the garage until the lock returns from the shop.

How can I fix my car's door which can be only opened from outside the car? I am unable to open it from inside the car.

depends on the model…for newer model marutis and hyundais check whether child lock lever is engaged (generally situated near the locking mechanism),which if accidentally engaged will not allow you to open the door from inside.Hope that solves your issue.)

What is a child lock in a car? How does it work?

Greetings,A child lock in a car is this tiny toggle switch in the door which will be visible from the side when the door is open.Image from Stock Photos, Images And Vectors By DreamstimeThe premise of this lock is to prevent the door from accidently being opened when the car is in motion. When the child lock is engaged, that door can not be opened from the inside. So if you are a parent and you child is sitting in the back seat and the child lock is engaged, even if they try to pull the door handle from the inside the door will not open. The only way to open the door would be from the outside. So once you are pulled over at a safe location or your destination you can open the door for the child and then disengage the lock and it's back to normal.
