Does Mandarin have any words with a 'u' or 'v' sound at the beginning?

In the current standard for Putonghua, consonant /v/ never appears. /u/ may occur at syllable start and is written as w in Pinyin. However it is important to realize that Putonghua does not equal Mandarin. Actually, Mandarin only includes Putonghua as one of its dialects in its current extended sense (the old and narrower sense refers to a certain sociolect and some related topolects that coexisted with but did not include Beijing Mandarin).Putonghua aside, some other Mandarin dialects have v initials. Some Beijing accents even use v in place of w in certain syllables, but still not distinguishing v and w. Many Sichuan dialects have syllabic /v/, so when it occurs without any onset consonant, that counts as a v at the start of the syllable. The classical Mandarin pronunciation system, nowadays most typically seen in Kun Opera, have both /v/ and /w/ onsets and distinguish them. E.g. 往 w- “to go” 網 v- “net”.

How should I spell the word that sounds like "shpeel" and means something like "an angry tirade of gibberish"?

It's "spiel," according to Merriam-Webster's Dictionaries. That's how you spell the German word, which is pronounced "shpeel." However, it's also a Yiddish word, which is written in the Hebrew alphabet, and can be transliterated into Roman characters as "shpiel" or "shpil" as well.

If you want to make sure the reader knows you want it pronounced as "shpiel" I'd write it that way, since it's legit to do that as a transliteration of the Yiddish word.

From the movie "The Sound of Music", how do you spell the word supercalifragicexpialidocious?

Supercallifragilisticexpialidocious!
Here's one of the scenes from the movie Mary Poppins in which you hear the word used:

Mr. Dawes Sr.: Well, do you have anything to say, Banks?
George Banks: Well, sir, they do say that when there's nothing to say, all you can say...
[He feels Michael's tuppence in his pocket, takes it out and looks at it]
Mr. Dawes Sr.: Confound it, Banks! I said do you have anything to say?
George Banks: [begins giggling hysterically] Just one word, sir.
Mr. Dawes Sr.: Yes?
George Banks: Supercallifragilisticexpialidocious!
Mr. Dawes Sr.: What?
George Banks: Supercallifragilisticexpialidocious! Mary Poppins was right, it's extraordinary! It does make you feel better! Hee hee hee hee!
Mr. Dawes Sr.: What are you talking about, man? There's no such word!
George Banks: Oh yes! It is a word! A perfectly good word! Actually, do you know what there's no such thing as? It turns out, with due respect, when all is said and done, that there's no such thing as YOU!

Correct Spelling of Last Name?

This is the only one I could come up with.

Marcinko: Last name origin & meaning:
Slovak: from a pet form of a personal name equivalent to Martin.

So maybe the one you are looking for is Marcinka !

But how do you know it is not a German name ? Because of the many, many, years of political turmoil throughout that part of Europe, it is impossible to be certain that it is of any specific "nationality". Unless you can do the research, you will never know and it is a futile exercise to guess at it, you must keep all your options open, with the probable exception of it being Irish !

Edit: Even when you find the name, you must consider the possibility that the spelling that you find is not necessarily the same as when it left whichever country it came from, a great many names were altered for a variety of reasons upon arrival in a new country.

You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

What baby name immediately makes you lose all respect for the parents and why?

I wouldn’t go nearly so far as to say that it makes me lose all respect for the parents, but it definitely knocks them down at least a peg or two.Nevaeh - OMG it’s heaven backwards! So yewneek!Apple - I thought it was only Gwenyth Paltrow but a group of teen girls sat at the bus stop next to me a couple weeks ago and one was named Apple and it was just as ridiculous on a teenager as it was on Paltrow’s young daughter. Will her sister be Kumquat? Screw Pine? Dragon Fruit? Maybe a brother could be Rutabega or Potato?Payne - I just…why? Pain? The unpleasant sensation? Window pane? A mix of both? My ex’s friend named her daughter this and its always baffled me.Marley - I’m no social justice warrior but I know no less than a dozen whiter than white families who named their daughters this. It just feels….attention demanding. Like they chose it “Because look how woke and hip I am! Marley! Marley! Bob Marley! I love Marley! I love black people! Marley! Progressive!” It’s become way too hipster and trendy in the last few years. It’s the same feeling a lot of people are feeling right now about the airline and Abcde and the mother’s clear desperate need for attention via child names.Any unnecessary and ridiculous spellings - Taking a ‘plain’ or ‘boring’ name like Elizabeth, Paul, Daniel, Mary, etc and absolutely butchering the spelling doesn’t actually make the name suddenly more unique than it was. It makes it the same Top 10 material now with an atrocious spelling that will have everyone questioning your intelligence and income for decades. David becomes Dhayvyd, Mary becomes Maiyre, Paul becomes Pahl, Elizabeth can be anything from Xylzabytthe to Ahlizhybith. So on and so forth. It was goofy enough when there was a trend of putting unnecessary i’s and y’s into names ala Robyn, Traci, Tiffani, Megyn, Jordyn, Jaimi and made most of those names instantly dated (even worse than they already were) and this is 1000x worse.

YOU are NAMING YOUR SON....Kyle and...?

Kyle is a teenager into motorbikes or video games.
He finds it hard to grow up.

I like it less than I do like Kylie as a girl's name and
I wouldn't name my own child Kylie.

My Kyle would be Kyle Fergus or Kyle Alistair or Kyle Lachlan.
I would try to pick up the British Highlands type of feel to it so to
try to normalize it and make it somewhat attractive by association.

This way I imagine him strong, in a fair-aisle jumper, wind swept,
adventurous, good at riding horses and speaking in an educated
respectful country manner.
