Removing name from vehicle registration California?
I am leasing a car from a friend, but I am returning it. My name is on the registration but obviously not the title. How do I get my name off of the registration? Or what other things do I need to do to protect myself? Thanks Bob

You will need permission from the bank to remove his name from the title. They usually will have no problem in doing so, as long as his name remains on the loan. It is doubtful that they will remove him from the loan. Your Ex would then sign ownership over to you and you would need to get a new title and tags. The bank would still have a lien on the title, and the loan terms would not change. Consult your state DMV (or equivalent) for the exact requirements in your state.

You don't have too if you don't want to but make sure to keep the title in a safe place and never loose it because if you do and you get a duplicate the DMV will send it to TOYOTA and not to you.... and for the registration you can keep it like that as long as you want.

If the title states "OR" between your names, you're fine. If it's "AND", you may need to have him sign off on it. When I was divorced, ours was "OR" and I traded it in without any problem.
