How Long Does It Take For My First Check Once Im Approved For Ssdi Social Security Disability

When did YOU get approved for Social Security Disability ?

My husband and I both receive disability benefits.

1. Him - he is disabled because he has had a hip replacement, three scopes on his knees and is due for two knee replacements.
Me - I have emphysema.

2. Him - About six months
Me - About three months

3. Him - He received 5 months of back pay because his disability was well-documented with medical records and Social Security also had him examined by one of their doctors.
Me - I received 1 month of back pay. I have been ill for about 2 years but never had a diagnosis until recently, hence they were unable to determine when I became disabled.

4. If by "level" you mean how severe the disability is, we are both considered to be "unlikely to improve" and our disability will be reviewed once every 5-7 years.

5. Him - he is considered to have multiple conditions by SS.
Me - although I have limited mobile activity, I only applied because of the emphysema.

Social Security has been a godsend to us, but we would never have applied for the benefits if either of us could have found a job suitable for us. My husband has always worked in fabricating jobs and is good at it, but, as you know, there are simply no jobs available. He's now been off work for two years and is no longer capable of the demands of the work; he simply is in too much pain. I have worked in the customer service area and I'm damned good at it, but I'm no longer able to do the physical aspects of the job. I do plan on taking some courses at the local college to gain skills for some kind of work. SS also has a "ticket to work" program through which I would be able to get training.

Ironically, my husband was offered a job as a welder about two months after he started receiving SS, but was unable physically to accept it.

I have no quarrels with the way our claims were handled. If you have a true disability, SS will pay your benefits that are due. Of course, they have to weed out the people who are trying to get a free ride.

Both of us would willingly trade our benefits for good health a thousand times over.

Hope this helps.

How long did it take you to receive Social Security Disability?

Took me less than six months. don't waste your money on an attorney. as long as you have medical records dating back far enough you will get it. and there is something about how many credits you recieved while working. if you had any type of mental health work, regular doc giving you antidepressants, any record of help in the right time frame around the time you worked last you are fine for SSDI. if not you can still get SDI which is a little less money. the paperwork process with Social Security, you apply for both at the same time. so if you don't meet the requirements for SSDI you will get SDI. all about the paperwork trail, how much you worked, earned and time frames.

as for passing the psych test. easy. it is hard to dissprove any mental health diagnosis. email me if you want more info. and look and my other answers for information on alternative mental health treatments i have a lot of good links.

I was approved for Social Security Disability how long for an award letter?

I just found out I was approved for Social Security Disability. I applied 10/1/2013, my disability date was 6/2011 and the approval decision was made on 12/19/2013. I also received a deposit in the bank a few days ago.

I called the 800 number for social security and the woman on the phone said she couldn't give me any details on what the onset date was they agreed on or any payment information because the decision was made on the 19th and they have to give 10 days for the letters to be mailed out. That doesn't make sense, they made a deposit, the website even states I am getting disability payments, the verification letter tells me my monthly payments.

Why couldn't she tell me if they agreed my disability date was 6/2011 or how much back pay I would get? I know you don't get 5 months of pay but my disability started over 24 months ago.

How long after you are approved do they send the award letter out, and how soon do they send the back payments out? Do you also get back pay for your child benefits?

Social security disability was approved on 11-24. How long before back pay?

It depends on whether you filed for SSI, SSDI or both. It also depends on whether you were approved at the initial, reconsideration or hearing level.

If you filed for SSI they should be calling you for a "PERC" this is a final interview to up date your file regarding income and resources for the entire period of eligibility. Claim should be totally processed within 30 days of Social Security getting all of the information needed.

If you filed for SSDI and approved at the hearing level, you should hear something within 60 days. You should also be contacted to file a claim for your child. Call 1-800-772-1213 and setup an appointment to file for the child if you have not already done so. Hopefully you listed him on your initial application to protect is filing date. This allows him to get back-pay for the same number of months as you are paid. Many representatives mess up and do not pay the child all the way back. Be on your toes for this one.

How long does it take to get social security back pay check?

Depends on if it is SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) or SSI (Supplemental Security Income) SSDI is all in one lump sum. SSI (since it is taxpayer funded, not paid out of FICA, SS taxes) it is in 3 installments, 6 months apart. Generally it take 2-4 weeks.

If you got Social Security Disability backpay in two checks, how far apart were they?

Why don't you ask the claims rep? That way you can follow up when it is time for you to get your second installment.

How long does it take to receive social security survivor benefits?

Survivor benefits are payable for the month of death. Since their father died in October the first check was due in November for October. Now they owe you for October and November. The first check can come on any day. After that the check pay date is based on the deceased person's day of birth. 1-10 - 2nd Wed, 11-20 - 3rd Wed. and 21-31 - 4th Wed of the month. The checks are paid a month in arrears.

There is no reason why they should not have been able to process the claim the same day you were there, if they had proof of death and the birth certificate for the child. Were you married to the father? Divorced mothers are also entitled to a check and are often missed. Hopefully you filed an application for yourself as well. If there are other survivors in other households, they usually hold the claim until they get applications for everyone. This can cause a delay. On the other hand, the claim could just be sitting on someones desk getting no attention.
The squeaky wheel gets the oil if you know what I mean. Give them a call. At Christmas time they should be more diligent.
