How Many Diploid Cells Are Produced By Mitosis

Why does mitosis produce diploid cells and meiosis haploid cells?

> Mitosis takes place in the body cells and body cells cover the entire area of any organism, so in order to maintain the over all resemblence the mitosis occurs. It always gives diploid cells because if the body cells started giving haploid cells, then at each subsequent division the cells will halve their chromosome number and the species won't be stable. So for continuity of any generation, mitosis produces the same number of chromosomes in a resulting cell as in parent (diploid as in humans).

> Meiosis takes place in sex cells, which should be haploid. If meiotic divisions created diploid cells then fertilization would take place and the generation next would have the double chromosome number than the previous one and the species will become unstable. Hence the meiotic division gives haploid cells so that the original chromosomal count can be restored in the zygote at the time of fertilization and the continuity of a species is maintained.

Hope this helps !!

A diploid cell with 24 chromosomes undergoes mitosis. It produces daughter cells with?

Mitosis doesn't reduce the amount of chromosomes in a somatic cell, so it produces daughter cells with 24 chromosomes. If it were to go though meiosis, however, it would produce daughter cells with 12 chromosomes.

In the S phase of the cell cycle, DNA is replicated (Chromosomes are copied, making two of each kind) which allows for two daughter cells to be genetically identical to the parent cell with 24 chromosomes

How many gametes are produced by one male diploid cell and how many are produced by one female diploid cell?

Gametes are sex cells in which are produced during at the end of meiosis 2. I'm guessing you mean human diploid cells when asking your question. So, since each human cell is diploid ( has two pairs of chromosomes which total 46) when the cell undergoes meiosis in males, 4 haploid cells are produced at the end of meiosis; which contain 23 chromosomes each. In females, only 1 haploid cell or gamete is produced because the other 3 that she forms disintegrate through a process known as oogenesis.

In reason, MALES produce 4 gametes and FEMALES 1

In Mitosis, how many "haploid" cells are there in the end?

In mitosis one diploid cell produces two diploid cells.

Answer = A). O

Meiosis produces haploid cells.

How many cells are produced in Mitosis and Meiosis?

mitosis 2n meaning you get 2 of the same identical cells of chromosomes from the parent so diploid

meiosis n meaning you get half of the chromosomes from each parent so haploid. 4 cells
