How Much Does It Cost For A 2000 Dodge Durango Brake Job

What is the average cost to replace brakes and rotors?

If there is one component of a vehicle that should be well maintained, invested in and understood, it is the brakes on your car. Having a quality, well-installed and reliable brake system is absolutely vital to the safety of yourself, your passengers and other drivers on the road.It costs an average of $100 to $300 per axle to get pads replaced by a professional service center or mechanic. The pads themselves range from $35 to $150 for a set of 4 (one axle), depending on the material and quality of the pads and the make and model of your vehicle. If the front right wheel’s pads need to be replaced, you should get the ones on the front left wheel replaced at the same time to ensure that both sides wear out uniformly and prevent the car from pulling to one side when you press the brake. If your rotors need to be replaced as well, this could end up running you around $250 to $500 total (including pad replacement). Rotors themselves range from $30 to $75 each (some higher performance rotors are $100+). Prices depend heavily on type, quality and brand. Here you can find top rated sites that sell the best and highest quality auto parts online for good price and free shippingCar PartsAuto Parts WarehouseAdvance Auto PartsJC WhitneyOscaroGet All PartsIn addition, if the calipers (which are responsible for closing and retracting the pads) need replacing, you’re looking at a parts cost of $70 to $130 each for a common make and model or $100-$300+ for a high end vehicle. Rear calipers cost slightly more than those for the front.A complete brake repair job for one wheel including pad replacement, new calipers, rotors and labor can cost anywhere from $300 to $800.

Brake light and abs light came on at the same time on my dodge ram 1500 4 door truck?

If it has 4 wheel ABS the red brake lamp (which is normally reserved for the parking brake) will come on by default with the yellow ABS lamp whenever the ABS module detects a problem, so it's normal to see both lights at the same time. All it means is the ABS Module has detected a fault in the system. When this happens the module will light the warning lamps and inhibit ABS operation but your service brakes wont be affected.
You need to have it scanned by a shop with proper diagnostic equipment, there will be a code that points you in the direction of the problem.
Usually you will find a bad wheel bearing or speed sensor but there are allot of other possibilities.
If you want to check the basics yourself you can jack up the front wheels and check for play in the front wheel bearings. Check the speed sensor wiring from the hubs up to the fender wells for chaffing or breakage and check the wiring to the sensor on the rear differential, that one gets caught by brush or snow and damaged pretty regularly. Other than that you will need a scan to get to the problem.
Best of Luck!

1999 DODGE RAM 2500 SERIOUS BRAKE PROBLEMS?

My 99 dodge ram 2500 has some serious braking issues. I had a total brake job done 8 months ago. New drums and shoes, new pads, rotors, and calipers. My problem is that the rear drums feels like there sticking. As soon as i pull out the driveway and barely tap the brakes, the rear lock up. And as I drive the rear just stays so stiff when I stop. It's embarrassing when I go to stop it looks like I'm just hammering down on the brakes. I have to adjust the rear twice a week to loosen it up just to drive it. I took it to Dodge and they said first the abs module, then try something else, and if that dont work then the proportioning valve. Seems like a lot of money just to throw at something that dont fix it. If I do hit the brakes hard enough I can feel the abs in the rear kick in. It does seem like all the pressure is going to the rear to stop me. Is this the proportioning valve causing this? If so how much does it cost? Any help would be helpful.....

What brake services does Walmart provide?

I believe a Walmart with a shop does full maintenance - rotor/drum replacement, pad/shoe replacement, line flush, etc. They probably won't be able to machine rotors though. From personal experience, I wouldn't have any work done at Walmart, nor most quick-lube style places. Best is if you can find a good mechanic and have him do everything on your car. That said, if you're handy at all, most brake jobs are really simple, and as long as you go slow and use some sense, it can save you quite a bit. A full brake job costs less than $100 in materials if you order from a good, inexpensive part supplier (I use Rock Auto), and even if you don't have any tools, you can get everything you need on sale for under $250. Just one brake job can cost more.
