How To Ask Your Teacher To Bring Your Grade From An 89 To 90

How can I convince my teacher to raise my grade?

I was in a similar situation in my senior year. I had an 89% but I needed >89.5% in order to not take the final (this was a rule my high school had for seniors in their second semester, and 89.5 or higher was seen as an A- and not a B+).I knew this was my last grade in this class, nothing else left to bump it. My teacher was super chill, the teacher everyone loves because he's a great teacher and his classes lean on the easier side. Knowing I needed to speak with him, I decided to do it after class (because my class was at the end of the day).I sheepishly walked up to him and asked if I could talk to him about my grade. I told him I would really appreciate having him bump my grade since it was only .5% so I could get out of taking his final test. I was a great student, always did my work and when we had free time in class, I would use that time to work on other homework (which my teacher noticed and started to ask what I was working on).His reply? “Don't worry about it Jessica, I got you. You won't have to take my final.”I thanked him profusely, knowing not all teachers do this (even teachers who have seniors in class. My science teacher wouldn't bump you unless you were 1% away and had proven yourself all year). He's still one of my favorite teachers. And when it was finals week, I gave him a couple homemade brownies I made and wished him the best of luck since he was going to be a dad soon.So what should you do?Be very nice, have reasons for why you think you should have your grade bumped, show you appreciate that teacher for doing something like bumping your grade, accept they may not bump your grade (and still be civil if they do not), and get/make them something nice to really hammer in your appreciation (cookies and brownies were things teachers at my high school liked). Good luck!

Should I ask my teacher to bump my grade up?

It is the end of the semester, we've already taken the final, and I have an 89%. I need a 90 and I was wondering if I should ask my teacher to move it up. I don't really have a good reason, and I don't want him to be irritated with students like me, that ask at the very end of the semester to bump their grade.

I have an 89.2% in English and my teacher wont round my grade up to an A. I i deserve it. What do think?

I am a college professor and it would be extremely rare for me or one of my colleagues to do this - so maybe your teacher is just preparing you for down the road. You may actually thank him or her later.

An 89.2 is not a 90 - sorry. I know several professors who won't round up a 89.5 or even a 89.99 and have even done so myself on occasion.

It is a cliche, but did you learn the information and skills you were supposed to? That will mean so much more than one grade as a freshman in high school.

Is it illegal for a teacher to give a false interpretation of my grade?

It is my senior year, and any senior with a 90 or better for their final grade does not have to take the final exam. Well my Math teacher gave me an 87 my first term and a 92 my second term, and these two grades averaged equal my final grade. Obviously these two 'whole' numbers averaged equal 89.5, which would be rounded up to a 90 -- meaning I would not have the final. However, according to the teacher my first and second term grades were not whole numbers, but rounded-up versions of my grade anywhere from .49 away from the whole number.

This DOES make sense, and is perfectly logical, HOWEVER when I asked her if I could see my grade rounded to the nearest tenth decimal, she said, "It wouldn't matter as you have around an 88.6, which rounds up to an 89". Why did I ask? Because MOST teachers will round your grade up if you are only .5 away from a 90, or even a whole point away from a 90.

Now, if you think about it, an 87 and a 92 cannot possibly average out to anything below an 89, as even 86.5 and 91.5 average out to an 89. So OBVIOUSLY my teacher lied to me about my grade. (Granted it was only by a fraction of a point, but it is still a lie, and COULD have made a difference, because I had a homework I could pass it but did not because she said, "It would not move your grade a whole point!")

TL:DR The teacher said I had an 88.6, when in reality I had over an 89 for a grade, which could have stopped me from taking the class final. What should I do? And CAN I do anything to make it so I do not have to take the final?

Teachers will I get my grades rounded?

It is not the software. It is the teacher's decision to do that. By the way, teachers aren't out to "screw you over". You do that to yourself. Just by you saying that tells me you may have an attitude problem. I round my students grades from time to time if I feel (1) they have exceptional knowledge that wasn't necessarily reflected in the grade they got, and (2) they have great attitudes and do not whine.
