Also, it needs to be an HD receiver, if it isn't already. You only get true 1080p from a Blu-ray player or from certain game consoles.

You can not change the resolution on your tv. The tv will only display what is being feed to it, to the max resolution it is capable of. If it is a 720P tv, you can not change it to 1080P. for the most part 1080i and 720p are the same exact thing. because when the resolution is followed by an i it simply states that half the pixels really get refreshed. down grading it to 720p. if it was 1080p it would have had double the amount of pixels. and the p stands for progressive where every icon on the screen will get refreshed. the i and the p really concerns the feed/source for the signal. and the number is for the pixels. but since most ppl want 1080p most places/ companys tag their 720p tv with the 1080i, by doing so fooling some to thinking its a full hd tv. not that most ppl can tell the difference. so you really don't need to worrie. and by the way all hd channels are being sent in 720p aka 1080i
