Which glue can I use for cardboard projects? I don't want to use hot glue.

Just did a Shield and a Sword in cardboard for my kids at school. I used PVA glue, the white glue used for wood very popular in the craft shop. In Italy, we call it Vinavil. People use hot glue because it is rapid but after a while, the piece of cardboard detach each other. PVA glue is slower and to glue the pieces you need to use clothespins or pins and whatever you find to keep the things together for a sufficient time they glue each other. Sometimes 1/2 day is sufficient to have the piece attached each other, sometime I waited 1 day. But when this time passed the pieces d not detach anymore. So again do to yourself a favor, do not use hot glue.

How to make a paper mache swordfish?

You need to get your supplies first. News paper, wheat paste, poster board, white glue, different shaped balloons, plastic for work surface, craft paint, brushes, some type of heavy plastic or maybe a stick for the sword. You need an area that won't be disturbed so your project can sit to dry. Figure out what size fish you want to make. Make a rough drawing of the fish. Pick out the balloons that most fit the shape of the fish. Blow them up and place them in order( head, body, tail, etc.) You can use masking tape to hold them together. Now mix up your wheat paste, make it smooth & not to thick.Tear the paper into strips. Dip your news paper in paste ( both sides ) wipe off excess, wrap around balloons. You can wait until the next day to put another layer of paper. If you put it on to thick, it will take it for ever to dry. Don't pop the balloons. The balloons may be stuck to the paper mache and calaps the body of the fish. If you can't find wheat paste, use white glue thinned down. Don't make it to thin. If you start on Monday by Thursday it should be dry enough to paint. Heavy cardboard can also can be used as the sword. If you do this cut it long enough to "Y" it over the area that's the mouth. You can glue the two pieces of cardboard together that is the sword. Also, if you can make it or put it in a warm area it will dry faster. Depending on the size of the fish you make, you can use a fan as the fin on it's back. " L" shape. This will give the appearance of the " wavy" look. Or simply cutout 2 pieces of poster board in the shape of the fan for it's back. Fold it back and forth to give the "fan" effect.Make sure they are folded the same so they fit together. Make the bottom of the fin 2" to 3" longer so you can "Y" it out to use this to attach to the back of the fish. This should remain smooth to make it easier to attach. I hope this is enough info to help you. Good luck!

How do you make a life size paper sword!!!!?!?!?!?

Tin foil [aluminium] on cardboard would be a start. paper-mache is another possibility.
If it must truly be paper:open up some large heavy grocery bags roll them into a cylinder then flatten them and bind off a section for a handle, slit the bottom of a small paper bowl and slide it on for a hilt and you are good to go.

Do you own a samurai sword? How useful is it?

hello Carmenwell it is a double handed and single handed single edge relatively short sword. It is as useful as any sword of the same type.if you are in historical fencing, you really need to handle actual sword and do test cutting with modern reproduction or fac-simile. That is the only way to inform your view of what an effective cut looks like and what each type of cut can do.Iato are lighter and deigns to do ia-do and just like blades used for test cutting they are a tad far away from an acceptably accurate fact-simile. (but if you are in iado or modern test cutting they are the tool for job :-) )For modern SD stand point, using a sword is using lethal force, So in most part of the western world, Unless the legal frame work is solidly in place, Regardless of the effect, it will land you on the wrong side of the law.Phil
