How could I record my gaming console without buying an expensive screen recorder?

Many older PC TV Tuners (a physical card that goes into the computer, or more modern ones that plug in through USB) have the ability to capture video feeds from the likes of Composite, S-Video and Component Video inputs, the most widely used A/V connections prior to the introduction of HDMI.Most of these 'TV Tuners" are quite affordable, especially if you look for an older model (that would still work with your system). And thankfully, most Video Game consoles still have adapters widely available for that final Video connection predating HDMI, meaning you should be able to output to the tuner and record a quite decent HD video feed with minimal issue.Unfortunately this might not be the optimal solution for long term playing of your games as it will likely look a little worse than what your used to though your HDMI on your tv (I'm assuming your setup is pretty normal), so this solution will be more for trying to record specific things you want to capture. You CAN split your HDMI ...... so that one clean signal goes to your tv and the other to an HDMI-to-Component converter ...... to where you can do the above with a TV Tuner.BUT, that will end up costing you bits and chunks of money (for the decent quality stuff that works well and doesn't break moments out of the bag shipped in from a knockoff Wearhouse in China), so this is where all the extra trouble and money ends up making the value of just buying a dedicated 'HDMI Video Capture' tool ends up making more and more sense. The other alternative, is to just realize the inevitable move that everyone will eventually make is to go start playing better games on the PC and use one of hundreds of free, cheap, or free-built-in video capture solutions already being used by millions to overcrowd Twitch and YouTube with countless gaming sessions.FRAPS is solid, and a simple lifetime purchase means you'll never have to think about it again, just use it.Twitch streaming and other capture tools are built right into the Raptr game logging and optimizer program, and it's completely  free!

Can you play 4K bluerays on a standard HD TV?

The short answer is ‘Yes you can play 4K Blu-ray DVD’s on a 720p or 1080p HDTV’. Unfortunately, as Gary also mentioned, you will not enjoy the full experience of the 4K Blu-ray movie images being broadcast to your HDTV.Your TV will only display the image at it’s highest resolution (either 720p or 1080p - not 4K).To truly experience a 4K resolution movie image from your 4K Blu-ray, you need to connect your 4K Blu-ray player to a 4K HDTV.I briefly cover some details on the different modern HDTV resolutions in a blog post about ‘What size TV should I get?’ based upon the resolution of the HDTV and the viewing distance. If you decide to get a 4K HDTV, you might want to read that article before shopping. I hope that helps.
