It can be exported to a backup location and imported into another system that has Outlook or OE. Here's my system. 1) My client is Netscape 4.79 - it uses a simple but powerful email structure. You can actually backup the Sent folder by copying an HTML type file. It literally takes minutes to recover a crashed system. One of Netsacpe's settings automatically Bcc's every outgoing email to a specific address. 2) I setup two-character abbreviations in the Address Book. When I type the first two letters of the email address, Netscape inserts the entire email address in the To: line. 3) I Bcc (blind carbon copy) outgoing messages to a Yahoo account. 4) Any time I want to search through messages, I login to Yahoo. 5) This plan has a problem. Free Yahoo accounts are de-activated if you don't use them -- I think they time out in 3 months. If this is your primary email archive, you might pay Yahoo a fee, something like $20 a year. Yahoo's mail can organize emails into folders - very handy. Also, their online email composition works better than Google's. 6) You could also use Gmail. Pro: It doesn't time out. Con: Believe it or not, the "search" in Gmail doesn't work as well as Yahoo's search. Gmail SETUP and possibly Yahoo Mail have Forwarding options. 7) Refinement: Set up a Yahoo Group. Subscribe the Yahoo and Gmail accounts to the Group. Then, whenever you send a message to the Group, it resends to BOTH backup email accounts. 8) If you are really into archiving your emails, compress the .pst file or Netscape Sent folder with Winzip. Copy it to CD and store it periodically in a fireproof safe or safe deposit box. You can password protect .zip files but you run the risk that you won't remember the password. UPDATE: Yahoo mail has "filtering to folders" as an OPTION. Yahoo Premium MAIL PLUS has automatic forwarding.
