What do you think about Serbia?

Thanks for the A2A Samuel SooHoo.Here in Poland most people are positively or neutrally inclined toward Serbia.I don’t see any negativity in mainstream media nor in social media.Poles and Serbs are Slavic cousins. We are the distant ones, because of different religion (Catholic versus Orthodox) and culture that stems from that religion. The most important political difference are our alliances. Serbia is closely allied with Russia, while Poland with the US.I understand however the Serbian position. Russia was historically the savior of Serbia, just like the US was the savior of Poland. Even today Serbs perceive Russia as the main guarantor of their independence, just like Poles perceive the US in case of Poland. Those who very negatively inclined the world public opinion toward Serbia were the Bosnian Serbs, particularly the perpetrators of the Srebrenica massacre. This was described in a report filed by by the special UN envoy Thadeus Mazowiecki, the former prime minister of Poland who then resigned from his position in UN as an act of protest against the helplessness of the United Nations.Because of the bad image of Serbs after the war in Bosnia, many Poles rooted for Albanians during the next Balkan war. It was before the era of Muslim terrorism and before informations about the Albanian mafia and its role in Kosovo emerged to the public opinion. The NATO bombardment of Serbia was however seen by many if not most of Poles as an unjustified exaggeration of the conflict. It’s in Polish blood to root for the weaker side.I particularly well remember how satisfying was to me to learn about the achievement of the brave crew of the Serbian anti aircraft battery which shot down an “invisible” F 117.I understand Serbs and wish them well. I believe that Serbs and Poles will always remain the distance cousins, because that is our fate. The cultural and political differences are too strong to be overpowered in a way creating the real, deep friendship and cooperation. On the other hand, our nations don’t hate each other and don’t dislike each other, there also aren't any historical quarrels or pretensions.|Lucky|

Is there racism in Serbia?

I grow up in Krusevac, Serbia. My mom is Serbian, and my father is black American. I consider myself to be black racially and Serbian ethnically. I did fight a lot with other kids in elementary school, but kids will bully those who are different regardless of location. Nobody ever insulted me based on the color of my skin. My mom’s family is great. I have spent many summers with them in villages of Maskare, Varvarin, Braljina, and Stalac. In my experience, Serbians will go out of the way to show hospitality. I have never felt a stranger regardless whose house I was going to. Currently, I live in the states. Last time I have visited Serbia was in May of last year. One of my friends drove few hours to see me. Walking downtown Krusevac did not feel any different. That place still feels like a real home to me. In my experience, Serbians can be very direct in expressing their opinions. They will tell you bluntly if they like you, or not, but they will base their opinion on their perception of your personality, and character, and not on your race. In my experience, I would say that Serbians are very accepting, and not racist. However, they might be slightly biased toward Gypsies.

How is Kosova a Serbian land?

There is no way that Kosova is Serbian.
Kosova is 90% Albanian and vast vast majority went to live in free country. Because we have such thing called 'democracy' we have that right. People living in a country have rights to decide it's future not those living 500km away in Beograd.

All Free countries such as USA, FRANCE, JAPAN, UK, GERMANY, CROATIA.. ETC They recognise that Kosova is free country.

Kosova is Serbian land just like SERBIA IS TURKISH LAND!
Did Serbia have permission from the Ottoman empire to break away??? Did Karadjorjdje have an UN resolution allowing him to declare inderpendence???? Of course not!!!!!

If Serbians are going by their rules of international law, then they themselves would still be living under the Turks.
But they are hypocrites and calling for double standards.

Besides all Serbs talk of history is rubbish.. Some Serbs might have lived there a few hundred years ago but Albanians were in Kosovo centuries BEFORE that. All historians acknowledge that Ilyrians were here first.
(Not that history really matter because as I wrote before only the current people who live there matters)

Is there a list of dog commands in Serbian?

Zdravo :) Here, I'll translate those phrases for you:

I wanted to record the pronunciations but I can't find my microphone. You can look up these words on http://www.forvo.com/

What should I definitely not do in Serbia?

I've seen a whole bunch of answers here that pertain to Kosovo and I'd just like to say one thing, I'm personally not of the opinion that people would really even want to talk to you about Kosovo. Most people refrain from speaking about the horrific events of the 90's with foreigners because we would like to debase claims of being barbaric or genocidal. Especially because we have been framed as such by western media and most people come to Serbia with biases about us.I think you won't find Serbia or Serbians much different then any other eastern europeans that were communist controled until a few decades ago. If you ask for trouble you'll find it, but that goes for every country.Go to Greece and say that the Turks never committed genocide. Go to South Korea and say you're sorry that the Japanese left. Go to the UK and tell them that they Brexited because they hate muslims. Go to the States and tell white people they need to pay reparations for enslaving African americans for 400 years. See my point? Just don't be a douches bag and you'll have a great time.
