Brother MFC-490CW scanned file location?

A scanner does not store scans. It just pops open a save dialog box and waits for you to pick the save location. From the user guide at the link below....
"You can use the Graphic (Scan) key on the control panel to scan documents directly into your word processing, graphics or E-mail applications or to a folder on your Macintosh®, to a USB Flash memory drive or memory card.
Before you can use the Graphic (Scan) key on the control panel, you have to install the Brother MFL-Pro Suite and connect the machine to your Macintosh®. If you installed the MFL-Pro Suite from the included CD-ROM, then the correct drivers and ControlCenter2 are installed. Scanning by the Graphic (Scan) key follows the configuration on the Device Button tab. (See SCAN.) For details about how to configure the ControlCenter2 buttons to launch the application of your choice using the Graphic (Scan) key, see Using ControlCenter2.
You can scan a black and white or a color document into your Macintosh® and save it as a file in the folder you choose. The file type and specific folder are based on the settings you have chosen in the Scan to File screen of the Brother ControlCenter2. (See File.)
1 Load your document.
2 Press the Graphic (Scan) key.
3 Press Bsymbol.utri or Bsymbol.dtri to choose Scan to File.
Press OK.
4 Press Black Start or Color Start.
The machine starts the scanning process."

Help on Using My Brother MFC-7349 printer?

You need to have installed the full software suite for the printer which will include the driver & software to accept a scan from the printer to your computer. The software should popup when you try to scan to your computer, or you need to configure the printer to scan to a specific folder on your computer where you can go retrieve the scans. Check your User's Manual for specific instructions.

Once you get the scan, it will be in a picture format that you can import to most any application, but if you want it as a text document, then you'll need an OCR program to read & convert the picture into editable text. An OCR program may have come with the printer software or you'll need to download & install one. If you have MS Word, you may also be able to convert it that way too.

Here's what you can do using MS Word & MS Office. You can scan in the document into a picture file then have MS Office Document Imaging convert it into editable text. Here are some links to explain that process:

How can I scan a document on a Brother printer?

1. Physically plug your scanner in and turn it on. It can be easy to forget this step, but it’s an important one. If you’re using a WiFi connected scanner, make sure that that you are connected to the same WiFi network as your computer.2. Make sure you have working software. The easiest way to do this is to open up the free scanning software that comes with your operating system (Windows Fax and Scan on Windows, Image Capture on Mac OS X), and press scan. If it doesn’t work, you’ll need to download a driver for your scanner. The best way to find a scanner driver is to type in to google “Brother ADS-1000W scanner driver”, replacing the model name of the particular brother scanner that you have. If there is a driver available, download and install it then go back to the free scanning software available. One very common problem is that drivers are no longer available for your scanner. This is because scanner vendors often don’t update their older scanners when new versions of Windows or macOS come out. My company has developed a product called VueScan that solves this problem. We reverse engineer older scanner drivers so that you can continue to use your old scanner instead of having to buy a new one. And if we haven’t reverse engineered it, it might still work with an older driver. You can download and try it with your scanner for free here.3. Select the correct settings Generally when you scan a document you want to scan at about 300 dpi. If you have a black and white (or don’t mind if the color is taken away) document you will scan faster, and save space on the resulting file if you scan specifically in black and white. PDF is better than JPG for scanning documents since JPG will result in image artifacts.4. It’s time to scan. Press the scan button and save the resulting document. From there you can save it on your computer, send it in an email, share it online, etc.

How can a scan a document with Brother 2820 printer?

You think this is actually fax / printer, but it is just a fax machine. Has an additional option - that it scans and memorizes documents to be faxed (quick scan - memory transmission). So there is not a scanner. If this is your printer, you have not chosen well, if you wanted to have a scanner - choose All-in-one.
I'm sure it does not want to hear now, but a solution to scan with the fax machine, I think you down, it does not exist, these solutions. Should not vote, you're disappointed, I know!
Good luck !

Brother MFC-490cw or Lexmark X7675...Which one?

I'm looking for a new printer, preferably wireless because I now own a laptop. I can get these two printers at OfficeMax. Right not, the Brother one costs $93 and the Lexmark is $140, in stores. Online, however, the Brother one is $80 and the Lexmark is $120.
My current printer is a Brother and I'm not sure if it's a really reliable brand because I get fed up with my current printer a lot. I used to have a Lexmark and it worked great but I spent a lot to keep replacing the ink. I was wondering which is a better printer and can you please base it off experience. Also, I was wondering if the Brother MFC-490cw printer is capable of working with a 802.11n network. I know the Lexmark X7675 does but it wasn't specified in the Brother MFC-490cw's case. Please help me because I don't want to waste my money, especially now with the economy. Which is really the better buy?

Why won't my printer scan to my computer?

Hi,Actually your question is not clear to me. There may be 2 reasons for this issues according to me:Printer not connected to your computer: In this case you just need to checkup all data cables that connects printer to your computer. Due to these issues you can face these problems.Other reason is computer may be connected to your computer but does not recognise your printer. Here are some points to keep in mind,What is model number for the scanner?Have you tried using a program to scan items?Did you check to make sure the printer is not in offline mode?Click Start > Devices and PrintersRight click the Printer and make sure the status of the printer is saying 'Use printer offline'To scan documents with Windows Fax and ScanClick the Start button , click All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.Click Scan at the bottom of the left pane.On the toolbar, click New Scan.In the New Scan dialog box, click the Profile list, and then choose Documents. The default settings for scanning a document, which you can use or change, are automatically displayed. To see how your document will appear when scanned, click Preview.Click Scan. Notes You can crop a document before scanning it by clicking Preview in the New Scan dialog box. In the preview area, drag the handles of the cropping tool to resize. Some scanners can save individual pages in a scanned document as separate files. If your scanner has that capability, you can select the Preview or scan images as separate files check box. If not, this option will be unavailable. To change the default file name for a scanned document or photo, right-click the file name in the Scan view, and then click Rename. To organize your scanned documents or images, right-click the Scan folder in the left pane, and then click New Folder. To move a scanned image or document to a folder, right-click the document, click Move to Folder, and then select the destination. Scanned documents are stored in the Documents folder under Scanned Documents. If you create a new folder in Scanned Documents, it won't appear in the Scan view until you close and reopen Windows Fax and Scan, or collapse and then expand the list of folders. You can automatically forward scanned documents to an e‑mail address or a network folder. To choose a forwarding option, click Tools, and then click Scan Routing. Select your preferred option, enter the details, and then click Save.
