How To Work In Hong Kong As Illustrator

Paintbrush won't work in Adobe Illustrator.?

I drew a picture on paper and scanned it in to my laptop. I want to colour in the picture using Adobe Illustrator but when I try to use the paintbrush a little circle with a line crossed through shows up and it won't let me use it. I added another layer over the picture but it won't let me use the paintbrush either. What do I do?!

Why is expand not working for me in adobe illustrator?

That is expanded, if you have not applied any effects or appearances to it. Not knowing the rest of the artwork you will need to select any other objects above or below the outlined letter and expand them altogether.

If, excuse this if it is not what you want to achieve, you want to increase the size of the letter you need to use the scale option (in the tool palette) or select it with the Selection Tool (black arrow) and shift+drag one of the corners.

What is it like to work in Hong Kong?

I'm assuming that you've got an internship with a big company. If it's an international company, 95% of it will be like any other company.  A few differences are that people tend to stay in the office longer, and the culture is much less flexible.  If you work in NYC and London, the CEO can walk by and see what's going on, so people can be a bit more creative.  In HK, because the people in charge tend to be middle managers that don't want to rock the boat, there politics is a bit more rigid.  One way I describe Hong Kong business culture is "this is what the US would have looked like, if the 1960's didn't happen."  A lot of the business culture of the US and UK came from the counterculture of the 1960's, and that didn't hit HK has heavily as in other parts of the world.  Most people in the developed world grew up with a sense of irony and the absurd because of influence of things like Monte Python.  This hasn't hit HK quite as hard, so that sense of the absurd is missing. The other difference is that NYC and London are international, but Hong Kong I'd have to say ends up being more international than either NYC and London.  At the office, everyone speaks English formally, but you'll hear about a half dozen languages spoken informally. Also, if you are working in a big company, you will be living inside of a bubble.  The good news is how much and how quickly you want to move outside of the bubble is up to you.The commutes are shorter.  The rents are higher.  And the culture outside of work is different from London and NYC (and in many ways HK has retained a lot of English cultural habits that London has lost, i.e. Monte Python just killed the English class system). Finally, there is a huge and booming startup scene in Hong Kong, that most people in Central don't know about, and are too tired to be involved in, so while you are in Hong Kong, you should attend a few events see StartupsHK - Hong Kong's Tech Startup Community and get networked in with the startup culture here.

Suddenly I can't copy from Photoshop to Illustrator?

A few days ago, Illustrator suddenly refused to paste objects I had copied from Photoshop. The "paste" option in Illustrator is just blank as if nothing has been copied. Copying from Illustrator to Photoshop however works.
Any ideas? I have of course tried restarting the programs, but nothing seems to work.

How do I create a rhombus in Adobe Illustrator?

First use the rectangle tool to create a square or rectangle of the desired size. Then go to the tool bar and click-and-hold on the "scaling" tool. This will bring up a pull-down menu to reveal the "sheering" tool. The "sheering" tool can be used interactively by clicking on part of the selected rectangle and by pulling on another part of the rectangle with the selected cursor. You can also select the rectangle and double-click on the "sheering" tool and enter a factor of sheering to your liking.

Good luck.

Can't expand appearance in Illustrator.?

Illustrator thinks what you've selected is already down it its simplest form.

Either that or the object(s) you're selecting are part of a group, compound path or clipping path that is being left out. I suggest confirming you haven't locked something that is associated with your selection.

How do I get a job in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong doesn’t really have a lot of growth that requires trained manpower. There are requirements for professionals and can not be sourced locally, because most students who go for higher studies abroad do not return. Local students who complete higher studies go abroad too. Moreover most of the hi-tech jobs are in the hand of public sector and multinational companies. These institutions are allowed to hire resources from anywhere in the world and do not face much restrictions about work permits like they employers do in Middle East or US. If a job is public facing then it requires that the applicant have knowledge of Chinese language. That is where the local college graduates get absorbed. Back end jobs are open to people all over the world. However to look for these jobs you need to register yourselves in local job portals. e.g. www.experis.com.hk ConnectCubed You might get a call if MNCs have a requirement for back end jobs. Do not bank upon HK for a job. There are very few jobs opportunities here.
