I Have Had Pain On The Right Side Of My Tongue For Over A Year.

The side of my tongue hurts?

I would start rinsing my mouth out with warm salt water....it could be a simple canker sore that has just not erupted yet....
it could be infection, it would not have to be localized to the piercing......

Good luck

What is more painful, side of the nose or tongue piercing?

I have had my tongue pierced twice…the first time about 6 months in I took it out and let it heal up. Then, I got a brain fart and had it pierced yet again. The tongue did not ‘hurt’ getting it pierced either time. The healing…THAT HURTS. No amount of ice can take away the pain. My tongue had to learn how to talk without a lisp, and biting down on a stainless steel rod and ball HURTS.Learning how to eat with the piercing is complicated. Years later, I still randomly bite down on my piercing while eating. I have a plastic ball and stem now…and I do not have broken teeth. Plastic is so much better…and safer after the healing time is over.It takes patience and time to deal with a tongue piercing. Good luck!

Why are there painful bumps on the side of my tongue?

Not an answer but maybe I can generate some discussion.I have a bump right now. About two hours ago I ate 2 Laffy Taffy candies leftover from Halloween and within 1o minutes of the second candy I had a swollen sore spot on one side. My bumps can disappear within hours or almost always overnight. My Dad experienced this - he said it came from "eating too many sweets". He is in generally good health except occasional asthma. I'm in good health too except low thyroid and I've noticed that acidy things like hot tomato salsa or a fresh orange can trigger it as well. My Mom and my wife do not experience this at all.- Is it a genetic thing?- Does it indicate some problem or allery?Any contributions are appreciated....

Sore on back of end gum on top right side of mouth. Throbbing pain. Please help?

Hi. Around three or four days ago, I woke up feeling as if I had a canker sore on the back of my gum. I know many will tell me to go to the dentist, but I want to make sure I need to before my mom wastes the money, we don't have insurance right now. Anyway, The placement is so far back that even my mom can't see it with a flashlight. The pain is focused at the very end of my top gum rack, near the top. When I actually feel for the sore with my tongue, it feels as if it is placed on a flap by the gum, but that might just be because its a canker sore. I can't feel it very well. I'm thirteen and my wisdom teeth haven't come in yet, so I'm thinking that might be it, but i didn't know if they caused sores. The pain is pretty bad but at times, I forget about it. It hurts badly after eating, no matter the texture or hardness of the food, even if I chew on the other side of my mouth. I have crooked teeth, but my teeth are fairly strong and I've had no actual problems. I do get canker sores often, but never on my gums. The pain extends when I move my jaw extensively, to talk or sing, and sometimes travels to my cheek, jaw and general area. I can't fit any ice or cream back there its too far. I've been gargling salt water also. thanks for the help!

I have these bumps on the way back side of my tongue? It's on both sides. I'm a 15 year old boy and I'm kind of worried it's cancer. I have a cold too

If you have bumps on both sides of your tongue and you are 15 years old chances are that you do not have tongue cancer. But it's more complex than that. What do you mean by the "sides of the tongue? How long have you noticed them? Have they changed in size? Are they painful? Do you have any symptoms or signs of illness. One could have an infraction in the tonsillar bed and think it's happening in the sides of one's tongue! There is no way around you putting off a visit to your physician who will take a careful history, examined you, order any needed tests if warranted. However, statistically, there is little chance you have cancer of the tongue at age 15! OTOH, we cannot say with the same assurance that the bumps are not anything more than the results of accidental tongue biting!Asher Radiation Oncologist

Why does one side of my tongue hurt?

You may have bitten it during your sleep, burned it on a bit of hot food, you might have inflamed papillae, a canker sore, a localized infection or abscess, a contusion from braces, dentures or other oral appliance. Have it checked out if it goes on for more than a few days. It is possible to get oral cancer, but have yourself seen by your general practitioner or dentist. They will refer you if need be.

Numbness/Tingling in face, but right-side only?

The numbness and tingling is nerves. There are many facial nerves. What it could be is bell's palsy. None of this is life threatening or needed to be seen at the ER. The only reason to go to an ER is an A-B-C problem (airway, breathing, circulation). IF this continues till Monday call you doc in the am and explain the symptoms to him/her. If your bloodpressure is way high you will have visual disturbances and a headache, if way low you will be dizzy. A stroke(CVA cerebral vascular accident) would effect the ipsilateral side (face) cross over to the contralateral side of the body at the brainstem and you would have weakness on the left side of the body. Since you have no symptoms on the contralateral side of the body it can not in any way be a stroke

What is this weird pain on only ONE side of my jaw?

I have seen this before. It is more than likely a form of TMJ. It can be a more diffuse pain (pain all over , but not a specific spot). However, most TMJ is caused because of a misalignment of the head and neck. When your head is slightly tipped to one side, the jaw wants to be level so it will tighten muscles to correct it. As a result you can grind teeth on one side.

I would recommend that you see a chiropractor. They should be able to correct this misalignment. Make sure they do an occiput(base of skull) adjustment. If they do not, you will have continued pain.

I personally have had one patient with almost your exact symptoms. Once I adjusted him, his pain went away within 30 seconds. This may or may not be standard. I have not had many patients with those symptoms yet.

I hope this helps.

I wish you the best.
