Hi. I've been wanting to get a tattoo for a long time, but want something that really means something to me. and girly at the same time. lol. I am disabled and have had to overcome many obstacles in my life and will in the future. Tattoo Idea: What symbolises strength, courage, perseverance and overcoming?

I'm not completely sure what kind of person you are, what you're going through, or what your interests are, but the first thing I thought of when I saw this was a large, strong tree. You could have the tree with thick, healthy branches and an hourglass in the middle of it, with the branches somewhat enveloping it, maybe carved into one of the branches that are holding the hourglass, you could have "This too shall pass". This is just the first thing i thought of and it seems like this would be a good idea from the information you've given. I really hope it all goes well!

What are good tattoos for overcoming obstacles?

I have been put on two probations, through them I lost most my friends and I change my life dramatically. I don't party and I look at life in a completely different way. I used to be a huge pothead and now I dont plan on smoking when I get off, or even drinking. now I live life for what it is. Ive seen you can have fun without altering your mind and I am happy I went through it; but losing friends and paying everything by myself was a struggle but I did it all! I also have over come depression and used to cut. I want a tattoo that symbolizes overcoming obstacles and something that represents having strong will and being independent. Something meaning new beginnings and having a good head on my shoulders. Any ideas?

Overcoming obstacles; Tattoo?

My life has had its ups and downs. and in the past few months it has all been going downhill. I thought for once in my life I was finally happy with life, and I lost the one person I thought I could always count on. As well as many of my friends, who seem to just betray me. Also a bunch of bad things just kept happening over and over..

But this month something finally hit me. I was sick of crying and being alone. I've reconnected with my true friends, the ones who have been there for me forever. And I realized I don't need other people to dictate my life. For once in my life I am happy with everything, and happy with myself, and who I am becoming.. It's all kind of hard to explain in this little thing and I'm sure you all are sick of reading it.

But all in all, I'm going through a self discovery. And this sense of happiness with life in the past month or so. I want a tattoo to describe overcoming my depression, anxiety, and all around "tough times." I believe I am a stronger person now, and I want my first tattoo to show that. I think this is the best time to get a tattoo, and I also want it to be completely perfect to how I am feeling. If anyone has any suggestions it would be great to hear them ! Thanks!

A tattoo that has to do with overcomming obstacles...?

Many of my tattoos reflect a hard and difficult childhood. I really don't think I am hanging on to the negative, but rather embracing that which is a part of me and makes me who I am today. I am a survivor of sexual abuse as a child also. One of my tattoos represents this. There is empowerment in this type of tattoo and I honestly cannot understand why others put this type of tattoo down.

Ideas for representation of overcoming obstacles: nautical star, lotus, phoenix, Ganesha (who also places the obstacles in your path to help you become who you are to become), stitched heart, stitched stuffed animal, or a child (embrace the inner child).

Best of luck to you in pursuing your relevant tattoo.

Sorry for the confusion...I wasn't referring to your answer Inked Mama, but rather an overall flavor, if you will, to questions regarding this type of tattoo. People handle the negative things in their lives differently and what works for some may not work for others and, personally, I think that is the case with this type of tattoo representation. It saddens some and empowers others, to the OP, best of luck with whatever you decide.

Overcoming Obstacles/ Strength: Tattoos?

I have a pink ribbon with the words 'beat the odds' and my aunts birthday under.. It was for her to symbolize the strength that I admire her so much for having even while the odds were stacked against her :)

Depending on what youve personally overcome this will have different meaning. Under my chest piece I have ' you may say I'm a dreamer' to me it just means even though alot of people doubted me I made it and my dreams are now reality.. My bicep says stronger than ever and I have a shiit ton more ink that has meaning lol

Tattoos to symbolize obstacles?

I understand where you are coming from. I, too had a pretty rough youth and I also wanted to commemorate it on my body somehow. While I didn't get anything to represent the dark times I did get something that represents my mindset where it is now and it was very personal to me.

Think about the moment you decided you wanted to be free from the bitterness. Was there something you remember about that time? A tree? A color? An animal? A state? A city? A body of water? A dream? Some kind of image?

For me it was a bird. A beautiful and fierce bird. I saw a bird on a sidewalk one day and it interacted with me in a way I will never forget which taught me a great lesson. I got it tattooed on my shoulder sitting amidst my favorite flower. But that is what speaks to ME and unless someone knew my story and what happened to me they wouldn't get it. Though, if they asked I'd be happy to tell them.

Think back to those defining moments and pick out images that spoke to you. Then search for them in google and start to print them out. Take them to an artist, tell him or her your story and they should be able to put something together that you will be special and unique to you and your memories.
