I Want To Join The High School Swim Team But I Have No Experience What So Ever Help

Can you join the high school swim team with no experience?

It depends on if your team has tryouts or not. We don't have tryouts and have random people just come on the team. It's okay if they do as long as they try hard and not just take up space, since there is a limited amount of space. High school swimming is a lot of fun. A high school meet for me lasts about 2 hrs. Our coach tries to put everyone in at least 1 event. The meet will go through a series of events (about 10 for each gender, so 20 events). There is also diving, and we make crazy cheers for the divers. We all crowd at the end of the lane and cheer for each other. I hope this helps and you make it on the team!

I want to join the swim team, but I have no experience, Im scared.?

I'm 13. I am staring high school in about a month or so, and I want to take a swimming academy at the school, because my high school offers Sports academies and one of them is swimming.
The only thing is that I am really scared, I have never swam before(I know how to swim, but I suck) and I don't want to embarass myself because practically everyone there will already know how to swim, but not me. And I dont even know if they will teach me how to swim and get better. Because I dont really know anything about the sport at all. Apparently I take the academy all year which is a 2 hour class in the morning and then I start my core classes till the end of the day. Do they teach you how to play the sport considering it's like a class or something, I really no nothing about it all and I was wondering if anyone else has this type of program at their school. The main thing is, if I take this, will they teach me how to swim? I can't really ask the school because they are closed. So any help that someone can give me is greatly appreciated.

Joining a swim team even though I have no experience? Help!?

So, I want to join to join a swim team and I have these try outs this week to see if I like what they do. I really want to do but the team is created by this really really really good school with amazing swim records at such young ages! (Some of them aren't even in middle school yet) I'm currently in middle school and have no experience what so ever. Any tips?

Should I join the swim team even though I have no experience?

I'm a freshman in high school, 5'1.5 and 104 lbs, and a female. I'm a little bit late for joining the swim team, but the coach said he'd let me tryout anyways. Now I am having doubts and am really nervous, so I'm just wondering, is it a bad idea to try and join the swim team although I have no swim experience (I can swim, but I have never been on a team before) I heard the worst time on the team was 47 seconds, is that good? And the best time is 19 seconds. (This is for a 50 free style)

Could I join a tennis team for my high school without any experience?

It depends on the school and coach. When I was a freshman, anyone could join the team. We had around 35 girls this year. At my school, students could opt out of gym classes by playing a sport. Since the tennis team didn't make cuts, students would use the tennis team as their gym class, even if they had no experience. One girl who wanted to try out, but didn't, asked if she needed her own tennis racquet. That's how little experience people had. The answer is “yes”, if you didn't know. However, during my sophomore year, the coach quit, and we got a new coach. *Sanders*, the new coach, realized that there were too many girls on the team. A high school tennis match usually plays seven girls. If a high school has a varisty and a JV team, at most, 14 girls will play at each match. We had over three times that amount. Girls weren't playing in matches that counted. Many of them didn't care because they were only there to earn gym credit. However, Coach Sanders did care. He didn't want players that didn't care about playing tennis and only wanted gym credit. So, he started cutting players. If they didn't show any interest and didn't go to summer practices, they couldn't be on the team. If they only showed up the first day of practice, the coach would send them away. There was no point in wasting resources on players that didn't care. Now, there's only around 20 girls on the team, which is much easier to manage.I suggest you get in contact with your high school’s tennis coach. Even though my coach preferred players who had a grasp of tennis, if an inexperienced student showed interest at the beginning of the summer and went to summer practices, he would let them be on the team. They showed interest.Just showing up on the first day of practice without prior communication is not the way to do it. Show interest.

High school swim team??

For mine, we practice Mondays-Fridays from 5:30-7:30pm for two weeks, then 3:30-5:30pm for the next two weeks, and then back again.
Saturday practice is optional, but mandatory if you miss a practice during the week.
Trust me, it is very hard to stay on a swim team. A lot of people want to be on it to get the cool stuff with it and the good times, but it's a lot of hard work. You swim laps at our practice the entire time. We have a coach for every 1 or 2 lanes though.
You must buy a meet swimsuit, shirt, and swim caps through the school. Optional items for our school are sweatpants, duffel bag, jacket, parka, etc. You must buy goggles, practice suit, and caps for practice though, too.
It's a lot of hard work. Don't expect something easy.

Can you join a swim team in high school if you don’t know how to swim?

Can you join a swim team in high school if you don’t know how to swim? That would be up to the specific school and coach. However, I doubt any team would allow a non-swimmer to join, and certainly not a competitive team. Most swim teams do require that the participant know how to swim and if you are in a large high school or swimming focused school, there is probably a qualifying time to make the team. The reason being, coaching a competitive swim team and teaching someone to swim are very different tasks. The coach is probably not inclined to divide his time coaching his athletes and teaching a non-swimmer how to swim. However, no harm in asking the coach, but be prepared that he or she will likely say no.On top of that, the certifications are different. In general, swim coaching for people that already know how to swim is a different certification than that for teaching kids or adults how to swim. So, unless the school has a program to teach kids how to swim, the coach might not have the certification to teach kids how to swim.

Is high school too late to join a competitive swim club?

I agree with Martin, there will be a lot of work in trying to catch up to those who have swim years prior to high school. It's very demotivating and kind of makes you wish you had started earlier.I myself swam sophomore through senior year of high school, not having much swim experience besides the basics of not drowning. I decided after swimming sophomore and junior year purely high school to go club and wow was that the best decision ever.I personally was happier that I hadn't swam earlier as I feel I would've burnt out like a lot of swimmers do after swimming for almost a decade. However, I do miss club. To me it's different they just regular high school swim, you make so much more progress and create such a bigger family. They've been through the worst with me, the worse sets and worst moments of my life. They could tell when something was off with me.So to answer your question, no it's not too late and I highly recommend it. If you enjoy the sport and want to pursue it after high school there's also masters swim clubs which range from all ages and still maintain the same training aspect.

Should I join my school’s cross-county team even if I’m not fit?

I personally think that it’s a great idea as it can help you become more fit and you can interact socially with other people while running. I don’t know about other schools, but my school doesn’t have a “try-out” for Cross Country. Everyone can join but there is a JV team and a Varsity team in which only the top seven get to run Varsity. Unlike other sports in which not all the players get to play, everyone can run in all of the meets except maybe a select few like states which doesn’t have a JV race. A lot of people on my Cross Country team do Cross Country to help them get fit for other sports. But before the season starts, make sure to get some light running in on your own so that you have a lower risk of getting injured during the season. I hope this helps and good luck!
