What is it like to get caught shoplifting at Walmart?

The loss prevention person will stop you as you try to leave and escort you into the security room. If you try to flee or resist you will have aditional charges added when the police arrive and they are usually already on the way. If you have fled the scene the officers will be given your description and they will hunt for you.Wal Mart's policy is to prosecute. If they choose not to prosecute it will be an exception to the rule. While you are sitting in the security room the loss prevention person will be sorting and photographing the property, preparing their police report and copying the video for the police. They will take your picture, issue you a trespass warning for all Wal Marts, meaning that you will be arrested if you return to that store or any Wal Mart.In many states you will be issued a legal notice that you owe the store 2 or 3 hundred dollars in a civil penalty to cover their cost. Then you will be turned over to the custody of the police officer. The police offficer determines if you are eligible for being issued a court date and a notice to appear or if you get the full ride to jail.If you are a juvenile the police will either have you call your parents to come pick you up (imagine having to explain yourself on the phone) or they will transport you to the juvenile processing center. The arrrest becomes a permanent part of your history.Wal Mart is vigorous about catching and prosecuting.

I got caught shoplifting at walmart (under $50)?

NOT a scam...............in the papers you signed the day they caught you stealing it sates that you will be getting a letter about civil restitution.

The choice is yours, pay or not they do not give a crap but they WILL take you to civil court and that WILL be on public record, you have already signed to say you did it, so you get that fine, extra fines for being a moron and wasting the courts time AND you get to pay their courts costs.........

Got Caught Shoplifting from Walmart, Asset Protection Recovery, Texas Civil Recovery?

Yes, very embarrassing, got caught shoplifting 3 items, in total fewer than $15 dollars. I'm 20 years old, no police were involved, no charges.
They let me off with the letter saying i MAY or MAY NOT receive a fine not to exceed $1000 dollars. Will it really be an outrages amount like a thousand dollars for just 15 dollars of merchandise? Do i have to pay it? What happens if i don't? Will they keep sending request for money every time i send an amount?

I recently got caught shoplifting from walmart?

So 4 weeks ago i got caught shoplifting at Walmart. I was stealing an iPhone case and was approached to after I left the store. I'm 18 and the guy let me go without calling the police but he recorded my social security number, license, and address and put me into walmarts system. He also Told me that I was going to receive a 150$ fine from Walmart with 2-4 weeks and if I don't pay this fine within 10 days or something like that a search warrant would be sent out for my arrest. Now it's been exactly 4 weeks and I haven't gotten this letter. I called walmart but the manager who caught me is not there and might be on vacation so i dont know what to do.I can't afford to have a search warrant sent out for my arrest cause that would be the end of me. What should I do???
And I live in New Jersey btw. Thanks

How are people caught stealing at Walmart?

Walmart gives every employee a bonus. for catching a shoplifter! This is one reason you see to many people getting wrongly treated in Walmart! They don’t train or hire people with loss prevention background or schooling! There may be a few people in the store with training! Many times they hire off duty officers, but that by no means is that they been trained right! Also push comes to it the officer not going to lose his full time job over a part time work! Since he would most likely lose both! You also see people targeted by race, age, sex! In the loss prevention room! Or the camera room? How many people have bought a item that they needed to hold in there hand because it would fall out of the basket? Then at some point they without thinking put the item in there pocket to answer the phone, or to pickup something else?Or you go to the self checkout line? Because of the 30 other cash out stalls only has 1 checker? So you not knowing how there remote scanner works only ring up some not all of the items in your cart because there to heavy to lift out! Then the guy at the door checks your receipt? Now your a shoplifter! Many times I got home figured out that I rang up to many of the same items screwed my self! All because I was afraid of being called a shoplifter!

Can you be charged with shoplifting if you didn't leave Walmart with the property you're being charged with taking?

One night I was bored enough to read the manual of procedures to detain shoplifters for a large grocery chain.Customers acting suspiciously were to be continually observed, ideally in-person, until they attempted to exit the store. They were not to be touched unless an associate observed them taking something and passing through cash registers. Store employees may have verbal contact to assist them with making a purchase, but couldn't say anything that would indicate they consider the customer's behavior suspicious.Detaining someone before they had opportunity to pay was not allowed. That was to avoid situations where the suspect doesn't actually take anything out of the store but leaves them elsewhere in the store. If you were detained before you had opportunity to pay for something or after changing your mind about buying something and leaving it behind elsewhere in the store, you may wish to contact an attorney to take action against the store. It is possible the employees violated their own shoplifting protocol.

I got caught shoplifting at Walmart and im 15 years old is this gonna be in my record ?

recently i went to walmart to get a blank CD for this presentation i had to do in school. walmart was selling the whole bundle which had like 36 blanks cds and i didnt have enough money to buy it. since they weren't selling any single cds and i only needed one. i opened the case and took one out . and when i reached the exit the guy pulled me over and took me to this room in the back of the store. he asked me if i had any weapons or anything i said no and then he told to take out what i stole. i took the cd out. he told me wait in the room and told me not to try anything stupid after a while he came in with a cop. the cop asked me for my name, address and a phone #. he called my mom and told my mom that i've been caught shoplifting. and then i was told to leave the store and not to come by myself in the store but only with a parent. after a week i got this letter in my mail and it said that i have to pay 50$ fine. now some of my friends are telling me that they're gonna send me more letters telling me to go to court and its gonna be in my record and stuff and my parents are gonna me really mad if that happens so my REAL question is this gonna be on my record and do i have to go to court. or im i good after i paid the fine ??

Should I pay the Walmart fine for shoplifting now or wait until my court date?

I was arrested for shoplifting from Walmart a few weeks ago. It was under $50, so I was charged with a class C misdemeanor. I responded to my citation by pleading not guilty so I could hire an attorney to help me choose my best options before changing my plea to guilty. My court date is in August, but I also got a letter from Walmart titled "Asset Protection Recovery" that says I owe them $200 by the end of next week.
What I'm worried is that, if I pay the fine, will that affect my trial at all? Since they technically haven't proven me guilty yet, does paying this fine tell the court that I am guilty, and will I get in trouble for it? Or does this fine have no influence on what happens to me in court?
I have the money to pay this fine, but that's about all I have. I've been saving since the incident to hire an attorney, so if I pay the fine, I'll have to start back from $0 to get an attorney on my case. I still have two months left, but I'd rather hire an attorney sooner than later so that he/she can help me with this situation that my dumb *** got myself in. Basically, can I get away with not paying this fine by the date, or at least not paying it until I plead guilty? Or will they still come after me even though I haven't been convicted yet?
Serious answers please. I already feel bad enough about this situation as it is, and I haven't stepped foot in a Walmart since then until I can 100% trust myself around their products, just to prove that I'm changing for the better. I'm just trying to think of the most logical step to take next.
Thanks for all the help.

PS. I live in Texas, if that means anything regarding this particular case.

Can Walmart make you pay 500 for shoplifting?

It depends on what state you live in. Some states give merchants the right to recover their losses civilly, this is called a civil demand.A civil demand is a settlement through the civil court. The company you stole from comes up with a monatary amount of what your theft costs, that also takes into consideration the cost of preventing theft. The civil demand will be for more then the amount you stole. You can fight a civil demand but will have to go to court and pay court fees. If your guilty it's cheaper just work out some sort of payment plan and pay what the fee is.Also I have seen people say that this is used instead of prosecution which is not the case at all, you can be given a civil demand and still get prosecuted through the criminal court as well. Depending on the specific companies policies they will have a list of standards that will require prosecution, if you don't meet any of these standards they will give you a civil demand and release you.Once again this is all subjective to your states laws, best way to find this would be to google if your state has civil demand laws.In other words while retail theft may sound like a petty crime it can cause much more troubles then it is worth.I always feel bad for the people stealing food to support their families, but there is other options go to the stores and ask who in the area they donate food to and how to get in touch with that organization.
