Ib Program - How Do I Know If I

Should i do the IB program?

So my school is big on IB. even if i didn't go full IB i would be taking i believe 2 IB classes anyways. I get average grades. mostly Bs some A's and 2 C's. I really want to do it, because i know it will help me get into the college i want, (Cornell, or at least give me a better shot) but i am afraid that i might do horrible, and flunk out. one second i decide i will do it, but then i hear something and start questioning whether i should or not. What do you think?

How hard is Pre-IB, your Freshman year?

The best high school in Florida is Fort Myers High School and it has acquired the IB program. I don't know if I should join, I kind of don't want to be in IB. I am very smart sometimes and I have good studying habits, I have potential to do the IB program. I can do it but I might want to drop out after my Freshman year. At Fort Myers High, I have so many friends there, a girl whom I am trying to persuade to do something and she is going into the IB program. There is absolutely no chance that I will be able to get in if I don't join IB. Everybody says that your Freshman year of Pre-IB isn't hard at all. It's either have all the advantages of my friends in IB or go to a really other gay school where I know nobody. Which one should I pick? Basically, I am asking, is your Freshman year of IB hard?

Should I stay in the IB Program?

Take this from a former IB kid. I would advise getting out now. For many reasons, actually.

1. If you're just starting it now at 11th grade, you're screwed. All the successful IB kids have been in the program since 9th grade. They train us in in pre-ib to be able to handle the work load and difficult level of the classes. Regular classes simply do not come close to prepare you for the difficulty of IB. I was in the program up until this year (my senior year).

2. Honestly, colleges look at IB as advanced classes. For the majority of all colleges, it does not get you any special privileges or anything. Very few colleges care specifically about the IB classes. They like that they're advanced classes, but that's about it. They don't particularly care about the IB diploma.

3. If you're getting C-'s, you want to get out now. Get your straight A's in normal classes instead of low C's in IB. It's only really worth getting lower grades over if it's a trivial drop. Like say you're getting A's and B's in IB classes instead of just all A's. Then it's worth it. Other than that, it's just going to mess you up and cause tons of stress.

4. Try Ap. The classes are usually a bit less difficult if only for the fact that they're more sympathetic. IB teachers generally assume you know all the needed skills since the majority have come only from pre-ib classes in 9th and 10th grade. AP teachers expect kids to have come from regular classes and, as such, need to learn to the skills before they can be expected to perfect them.

Overall, I'd say you're better off out of the IB probram. It's not for everyone. I dropped the program this year and switched to ap because I was simply not interested in doing all that insane extra work for the diploma. It's an insane amount of stress. I know many people that have done the switch to ap from IB that did awesome in the program and left it just because of all that added stress. The only people I know that it doesn't stress out are these kids who are insanely intelligent and only spend their life studying. Live life, enjoy it, and drop IB.

Bottom line: It's not worth it. Drop it while you still can.

Is a B average in IB program bad?

that girls comment, the girl who is african american. make a racist comment again and see what happens. you dumb redneck hick im not in the mood to hear racist comments. but il dish them out if you want to start crap you low life. AND STOP GETTING BS YOU LOSER. youre a dumbass

Who took the IB program? Did you take HL physics and maths? How did you pass them and get a good grade?

I completed my IB programin May 2017. My HLs were math, physics and chemistry.I used to practice math everyday for an hour, doing practicing textbook questions and solving papers. For physics, I used to reread the sections did in school that day from 3 textbooks (Oxford, Pearson and Tsokos). For chemistry, I did the same. For all the subjects, I regularly did questions and solved papers, starting from old ones to the new ones just before the final exam.I got 7 in maths, 6 in physics and chemistry. I also did EE in chemistry and got a B.

If in my IB program there is no Mathematics HL, just at SL, am I still able to apply with a chance to enter LSE, Oxford or Cambridge?

It depends what you want to study. Remember, in the UK, students start to specialize at 16. A typical applicant to study English Literature would have no maths beyond GCSE level, but would probably have studied Chaucer’s poetry. A typical applicant to study maths or physics would eat calculus for breakfast, but their knowledge of literature would be limited to one play by Shakespeare. You will need to check whether SL is considered equivalent to GCSE level with someone who knows.(I realize that there are plenty of maths students who know lots about literature beyond their GCSE studies, and there are people who read Literature for their degree who have a-level maths, but this isn’t required or even expected).

Is the IB Program really just a waste of time!?!?!?

I am now in grade 11 (IB 1) in my school.

First off the IB doesn't give you homework, they give you assignments, tests, projects. I have never done pointless homework in my 5 years at the IB.

There are tons of great advantages to the program apart from what other people have already said. In my school they have a "hand it in on the week" meaning if my project is due Monday, I can hand it in Friday and have no punishment. If I feel that I am stressed, tired I can take up to 5 sleep periods a year and not go to class. Every other day I have a period spare where I can do what I want. If I feel I am not ready for a test, I could write it on the next day. IB schools usually offer the best possible university counseling which you will soon find very important. Also the IB offers courses that are actually interesting such as business in grade 9 and writers craft in grade 10 which you would not find in other schools. Sports are a very big thing in the IB and they will not affect your work load.

In terms of work be ready to do about an hour a day and some projects on Sundays. BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT!

The IB program gets u ready for the world out there, you will way more independent than any other students and way more prepared.

Also forgot to mention that in grade 9 I got a 75% average, which turned into a 90% on the goverment average (canada)
now I have a 7 in economics while my percent average is only 90 in it, universities see it as I aced the course.

1 bad thing about the IB is that it is competitive and you will not have an A+.

I’m thinking of starting an IB programme. I want to be a doctor in the future, and I will take biology HL and chemistry. What else should I take as HL?

Thanks for the A2A.It really depends on where you're applying. I know a few schools (such as Cambridge) that prefer 3 sciences at HL, this is of course not mandatory, but generally preferred. This would require you to take an ‘irregular diploma’, but it's pretty common, so no problems there.I'd suggest take either Physics or Math HL. Shouldn't matter too much though, most schools only require Biology and Chemistry. All the best!
