If I Drink Whey Protein And Eat Under 2000 Calories Will I Still Build Some Muscle Without Gaining

Why am I gaining weight when I eat less than 1500 calories a day? I'm 18 years old, female, and work out 30-60 min a day.?

I'm not a certified health professional, but from what I've gathered, you may either be eating too little, or not eating the right calories. It's usually not about calorie content, but about what kind of foods you're eating: whole grains, lean proteins, vegetables, fruits, etc. There's something called a BMR, your Basal Metabolic Rate, which is the amount of calories your body burns simply by existing; it's the amount of calories your body uses up to keep up its temperature, to keep your organs functioning, etc. You should always be eating above your BMR, and I'm guessing less than 1500 calories is less than your BMR (I don't know how tall you are, or how much you weigh, so I may be wrong). If you eat less than your BMR, your body will go into starvation mode, and begin to store fat. My recommendation is for you to use a BMR calculator to see what it is, and eat about 400 calories above that each day. Also, like I said before, focus on healthy foods, rather than empty calories.

Proper diet for building lean muscle / losing fat?

So I've lost about 60 pounds since three years ago, but my body still looks terribly out-of-shape.. I've been doing 200-300 pushups, 200 situps and doing lots of cardio, but I'm seeing marginal gains, so I'm wondering if it's my diet that I need to change up..

So far, I've been eating few carbs and high protein.. How should I change my diet?

If you eat enough protein, but not enough calories, will you still gain muscle?

Gaining muscles requires a calories surplus. Eating loads of protein without sufficient calories will not result in any gains. Muscle requires energy to repair, build and grow. Thus, if you are not providing sufficient calories for these functions to carry out, your muscles will not grow at all.Gaining muscles is actually a simple equation:Calories surplus required = Calories Intake - Calories ExpenditureIf the value is negative, it means you are lacking calories. If it is positive, it means you are having a calories surplus.A general guideline for bulking would be approximately an additional of 1,600 calories per week, 230 calories per day, with 45% of the total calories coming from carbs, 35% from protein and remaining 20% from healthy fats. Of course, you can adjust speed of your growth by increasing your calories surplus. But do note that you should not over exceed your calories surplus as in may result in fat accumulation instead.I have just the tool for this automated calculation. If you wish to calculate a personalized daily calories intake required for gaining muscles, do use this Mass Gain Calories Calculator.Hope this helps!

Will 2000 calories make me gain weight?

I'm 5'6, 118lbs, & 17 years old.
I'm supposed to be gaining weight, & I was wondering if 2000 calories is a good amount to have every day, or if it's too much? It's quite a bit more than what I was consuming before.

also I exercise 4-5 times a week for about 50mins to an hour each time, usually by jogging.

thanks so much!

How to gain weight without getting fat?

Well you need to work out in the gym to gain muscle...but first of all, you need to realise that you cannot gain weight by lifting without getting fat. Its a cycle called bulking and cutting. When you bulk, you give your body plenty of what it needs to repair itself from the gym, so you will gain muscle quicker. At 98 pounds, cutting should be the last thing on your mind. Just increase your caloric intake every week by about 50-100 calories and lift weights with proper form. Drink plenty of water (10-15 cups a day) and take atleast 1.5 grams of protein per kg of bodyweight. You should also note that with a high protein diet you have to eat looots of low GI carbs like oats, and healthy fats to boost testosterone, from foods such as eggs, almonds and milk.

Dont worry, you can lose fat easily by going on a calorie deficit diet. Its really simple...just lower the calories you eat by 50-100 each week and lessen the carbs and you will see the effect.

EDIT: btw you might think cardio such as swimming and cycling is not good, but TRUST ME you need it! if you weight lift you MUST incorporate cardio. It will loosen the nerves after becoming tight from weights. Yes, it will burn some calories, but you can easily get those calories back by eating a handful of nuts or a fruit and some peanut butter.

Will i gain weight by consuming 2000-2350 calories a day?

I'm not sure about a tapeworm :( There are lots of people who are underweight (hard to believe, I know) and I'm sure not all of them have tape worms!

This is what I would suggest:

Don't load up on junk or fatty foods (which it seems like you're not planning on doing anyway, so good for you!)

Try to eat 5-6 meals a day that are high in omega 3 fatty acids (tuna, salmon, nuts) and good protein (lean meats, legumes, fish). Balance out the fats and proteins with a good solid whole grain and veggies.

You can also buy shakes that are high in proteins and good fats (Ensure) and drink lots of milk and juice. Don't drink coke or other sodas!!! Empty calories - They do you no good... they just put bad fat on your body.

Once you understand the nutritional aspect of getting to a healthy weight, you need to master the exercise portion of it! You still need to exercise and the best way to do so to gain weight (ie. Muscle) is resistance training (such as weights). Try not to do aerobic exercises because that may cause you to lose weight.

How much muscle would you lose if you skipped protein intake for 24 hours?

Definitely, not much, but it males a difference if you eat carbs or not. When I was studying biology, carbs were also called protein sparerers, ie preferably used for energy instead of proteins. Most people do not incorporate frequent running sessions in their training (or non-training) regimes, and as a result of that they do not break down fat easily. For energy they rely mostly on protein and carbs. If you are a male, you need like 2000-2500 kcal per day. If for 24 hours you consume ONLY carbs (very hard to do practically, but let's assume you will only consume sugar or corn syrup), but enough calories to meet your needs, then protein catabolism (used for energy) will be almost zero. BUT, if you consumed nothing (a total fast) expect to catabolise a lot of grams of protein for energy (100 grams protein=418 kcal, so maybe up to 300 in some cases!). However, keep in mind that most of that protein will not come entirely from your muscles! Blood albumin is also readily consumed and other sources, as well.
