Infected Lip Piercing - Help

Could you die from an infected lip piercing?

My dad is a doctoer and he told me that if you get an infection on your lip and don't act fast it can travel to your whole body and you might have the risk of dying. I don't want to scare you but i am just telling you what he told me.

Infected lip piercing?

I got my lip pierced a little over a week ago for the first time. The outside is healing fine. It gets crusty in the mornings and throughout the day so I clean when I wake up and before I go to bed with Dial Gold which is what my piercer told me to do. The inside, however, I rinse with alcohol-free mouthwash when I wake up and go to bed. I noticed white lumps under the skin on either side of the lip ring which bleed if I take a Q-tip soaked in mouthwash to it to try and clean it. The inside is still slightly swollen from the initial piercing and it is red. It is starting to concern me. Is this normal or is it infected?

I took out my infected lip piercing!?

I had a job interview on December 27th 2013, and I had to take out my lip piercing. a few days before that, it was infected so i didn't know what else to do. So after that day I didn't think about putting it back in because I forgot. That night I went out and I felt my lip had a small bump. I got scared and put the piercing back in. I cleaned it more and until today, January 7th 2014, the bump is still kind of there. I'm scared and don't know what to do. I haven't gotten anything major like a fever or anything but yeah. I've done research and seen people say to never take it out or else it'll get trapped. Will it still be trapped if I had the piercing put back in and still cleaned it?

Infected lip piercing?

It is infected.Just.
Our mouths are full of millions of bacteria so these are easily infected. And once infected have a tedancy to get worse fast. So deal with it now.

Did you get any anti-bacterial liquid to put on the peircing?
If you did put that on, inside and out, 4 times a day.
If not. You can get some table salt and disolve that in warm water. Put that on the site, inside and out again, 4 times a day.
Or you can go and buy some alcohol (sp) swabs at the chemist. The one's used for injections. These work fantastic as my peircing got infected and I used these. Use these only 3 times a day though.

If it get's itchy and very sore you will need to see your Doctor for anti-biotics and an antibacterial cream.

How do I know if my lip piercing is infected?

I just recently pierced my bottom lip and I clean it like crazy cuz i'm paranoid about infection. But now there's redness around the ring and inside my lip where the ring goes through there's a big bump and i'm wondering what i should do,can someone please help me A.S.A.P?

Closed infected lip piercing?

A piercing cannot get infected that quickly, it takes three days for an infection to show up.

Is it any of the following:
Hot to touch (more than normal)
Emitting a foul smelling odour
Secreting a thick, green or yellow substance, tinted with red
Very swollen.

Three or more of these and you have an infection. Tbh, it just sounds like you're healing it. There's nothing to worry about.

Can a lip piercing get infected after healing?

I've had my snake bites for about 2 years now and I clean them about every two weeks but sometimes right after cleaning them they smell like gauges.

I have studs in now but I used to wear rings and I think what happened was the inside of my lip got stretched from me spinning the rings around in circles so much and now it's made them like gauges but only on the inside.

One of my friends said he took his ring out because it kept getting infected even after he had it for about 5 months so I don't know if it's just me or what.

What kind of antibiotics should i use for my infected lip piercing?

Personally, I wouldn't bother much with antibiotics as this is a surface 'wound', rather than internal. Your piercing is in your mouth, for starters- our mouths and nasal cavities heal incredibly fast on their own terms.
!!!Neeeeeever use hand sanitizer or peroxide or an alcohol-based solution on your piercings. It simply dries your piercing out and makes it that much harder for your body to heal. I don't know the contents/ingredients of that particular substance- but from the sounds of it, it is likely a bunch of chemicals your piercing won't much appreciate. You don't want to smother your piercing with any chemicals (lotions, food sauce, make up) as it is trying to heal. Even when it is healed, be sure to clean your piercing area if you use say cover-up.

To reduce infection, simply clean it out more frequently. After showers or swimming- especially before you go to bed and when you wake up. Perhaps after lunch or before dinner. I cleaned my piercings three times a day for a few months (I still clean my healed piercings after showers and such).
You want to reduce any amount of bacteria- I would suggest perhaps taking a NSAID such as ibuprofen (tylenol, advil- never aspirin as it is a blood thinner) to reduce any swelling.
If you switch between a hot compression to a cold compression (warm, damp cloth vs. cold, damp cloth) a few times, it will open the skin pores to move the blood flow better. Rinse the inside and outside of the piercing with sea salt (not table salt) and be sure to clean your hands very well beforehand. Try not to play with the piercing and let your body work itself out. You'll notice the infection is gone or depleting when your piercing is no longer secreting pus (yellow or green fluid) and it isn't as tender and red.
Patience and loyal care will run the infection out in time. Best wishes (:

Can I use Tea Tree Oil for an infected lip piercing?

First of all, NEVER EVER use antibacterial sprays and ointments on your piercings. The chemicals in them are bad for, and can dry out and irritate, your piercing. miss.maelstrom doesn't know what she's talking about.

Second, GO TALK TO YOUR PIERCER. They will tell you if your piercing is infected or irritated. If it's infected, you will need to get antibiotics from your doctor. You should NEVER try to treat an infection yourself.

Third, NEVER EVER move your jewelry around or play with it. The best thing you can do is keep it from moving as much as possible. Don't ever rotate or twist your jewelry. This can introduce bacteria and irritants into your piercing resulting in an irritation at best and a full blown infection at worst.

If your piercing is irritated, do sea salt soaks (1/8 tsp of non-iodized sea salt in 1 cup of warm water) for 5-10 minutes 2-3 times a day. You do NOT need more salt than that and you do NOT need to do it more than 3 times a day--if you do you can dry out and irritate your piercing further. You should only need to apply tea tree oil once a day. Dilute it with olive oil or another carrier oil (1 parts tea tree to 4 parts carrier), dip a cotton ball in the mixture and hold it to your piercing for about 5 minutes. Then rinse it with water.

If you're still having problems after a couple weeks, seriously, go talk to your piercer!
