Is 17 Too Late To Become A Professional

Is 21 too old to become a professional athlete?

It depends on what sport you want to do. You could do it in some. But some sports like swimming or tennis are probably not possible because it requires years of coordination and training and a lot of money. You have good height. You are like me. I'm 23 and I felt like I was meant to be a professional athlete but I was raised by non athletic parents so I didn't know what was possible.

What do you do for work? I'm just working an office job right now. I've recently taken up skiing and it is coming along very well. I wish I had done skiing as a youngster because I think I'd be awesome at it. I've done sprinting and weights since I was a teenager and I'm still in great shape. I'm in a climbing class (alpine and rock) and I run and do weights. I'm from Washington state and there is a lot of stuff to do that I have just discovered.

You might want to try track cycling ( or road cycling or mountain biking) or speed skating. Find a club near you. Rowing (height is an advantage in this sport), kayaking and canoeing might be good ones as well. It is not unheard of for people to do well at these sports at relatively older ages. I tried road cycling in a criterium race and it was tough. A lot of good handling skills are necessary. Track cycling might be fun. Skiing might be a long shot but there are probably master's racing programs out there. You can see that pros on the women's WC are as young as 16 or 17 years old. There might be track clubs near you if you like track and field but this requires years of build up too.

Here is a good story. This cyclist first raced when he was 22 or 23. He's 31 and a pro.

If you have any questions about running or weight training, I might be good for that. Just message.

How old is too late to try and become a professional football (soccer) player?

Of course, I know nothing about your skill level. I will assume that if you were a prodigy you would not be asking this question. If you are blowing the doors off your U16 team, your academy is quality, and someone at the academy has said “You are something special”, then you might have a chance.Remember there is a large number of kids at 16–18 who are playing for EPL sides in the League Cup as well has token appearances in other competitions. There are more gifted types in the lower leagues as well. Also, there are kids at the age of six who have been marked for consideration, etc.Really, the 13 year old mark is a sweet spot. If you are not in an academy by then and playing very well, you need to be one of those “once in a million” late bloomers. There is a possibility of playing in lower leagues, but they are either not professional or pay wages equivalent to the dole.I do not want to discourage you, but you might want to just play for serious non-pro teams and see how things go. Keep your expectations realistic.YNWA

Is it too late for me to become a Professional Rugby player?

I asked myself the same question over and over when i went back to rugby 3 years ago when i was 20, I had stopped playing at 18 and had seen a lot of my old team mates get contracts.

If you are good enough it is not impossible but also requires a great deal of luck too, Once you are enjoying the game good things will happen but making it pro might be a step too far, most pros are signed at the age of 20 or 21 and have represented their countries through most age groups, then again there are fantastic players who will never make pro. If you have it in your head to make pro and fail then you'll be disappointed, set your sights lower to start with, your first goal should be to give it your best at every match, but you may have to make the low team first. Impress and move to the next level, you need to be a "legend" on your teams first team someone that the others can look to as a game breaker. Your team also needs to be a high level amateur team where players are recruited from. If your team plays in a really low league then there isnt much chance of you being noticed.....

When i went back playing i went to a low league club to get game time, I also trained twice a day in between college, now this year i have been asked to play with the college who are in a high league, Im not going to make pro but i push each level i can, nothing is impossible, but that set your goals too high or the drop will be that much crushing,

As for fitness i dont know how fit you are but you would have to take a full year off and spend everyday working with a trainer on your strength and fitness.......

Its a really long shot but i like your attitude, best of luck man!!

Is it too late for a 17 year old to be a professional footballer in England? (I have some footballing experience)?

HiNo,it is not too late to be a professional football player in England at 17yrs.However you must do it in a round-about way.You can go for a tryout for teams in the smaller countries of Europe.Countries like Cyprus,Greece,The Benelux Countries etc. are always looking for players. The licensed FIFA and EUFA,agents, who recruit for these countries have a cut off at age of 28yrs.If you are good enough, you can go for a tryout for a team from these countries, then after 3–4 years you can ask your agent to see if any team in England will take you.Another way is to go to a football academy, that African Gunners is connected to.They are in the U.K. and they take football players up to the age of 23yrs.The courses are from 1month to 1 year. After the course you go for a tryout in front of European licensed coaches, scouts and agents. If you are any good, they will sign you up for Eurupean teams. Also, here ,if you are any good, you can ask your agent to get you to play for an English team.If you are any good, get in touch.

Is deciding to be a professional volleyball player at 17 too late or just right?

well it depends on if youre talking about college volleyball or the US team. Most college teams are part of NCAA, and there are three divisions, DI, DII, and DIII- DI being the hardest and DIII being the easiest. In order to play for college, you need to speak to the coaches of the colleges you are interested in. I also thing there are recruting sites you can use but you have to make sure you are using a reliable site. Also, your height matters. For DI, almost ALL the players are tall..you can look up sample rosters ( for example, Penn State, Stanford, -these are DI schools) and see their heights. If youre short, you the only position you can really play is libero if you want to play on a DI team. For DIII, you can be any height, depending on the school. More competitive DIII schools would rather have tall players unless youre a libero, but there are many DIII colleges that have short setters and hitters also.

For the US team, im not exactly sure but Im pretty sure you have to play for college first. All the players are from top DI schools such as Penn State, Stanford, and Texas.

by the way, you should talk to your coach or club coach to help you out because they probably have connections with some colleges .

I'm 17 years old. Will I be able to become a professional tennis player if I train hard?

Based on the context of the question, I assume you haven’t started training hard yet. If you are already training and practicing, and you are one of the top players in your country in your age division, then you have a chance of becoming a pro.If you have yet to begin training hard, you should consider your level of athletic talent. Are you an elite prospect in some other sport, a top soccer player, baseball prospect, or golfer? Do you have parents who were professional athletes? If so, your chances are much greater. There are a small number of cases of people with elite athletic talent starting tennis late and becoming professional (Cedric Pioline almost won a grand slam, for instance).Your quest will be helped if you have financial backing- becoming a tennis pro requires a substantial monetary investment. If your parents are well off or if you can prove to some coach that you are truly elite, it will help you considerably.

At which age is it too late to become a golf pro?

A PGA Tour pro?If you're 18 or over, the odds of making the tour at that age having just started golf would be infinitesimal. It's a waste of your time to be worrying about this question though. Go out, learn, play and see how good you can become. But I certainly wouldn't base my future on the prospect of becoming a pro golfer without a backup plan.

I am obsessed with making it as a professional footballer, when i wake up in the morning its the only thing i think about, i just turned 17 and play for a sunday league team, i am quite fit and i do score alot of goals.
