amount of sleep varies for each person.

like me for example-i've worked nights in a hospital for years and if i get more than 5 hours of sleep on those nites-my butt is dragging the entire shift. on my days off, i sleep about 8 hours.

instead of "training" your body to a set time, let your body tell you how much is enough. go to sleep early enough to get at least 8 hours of sleep each nite, setting the alarm for the time you have to get up for work,school,etc. give this about a week or two to work b/c you're body has to adjust.

go to bed at the same time every night (weekend or not) and set the alarm for the same time every morning (except weekends). keep track of how much you really do sleep. is it the full 8 hours? how do you feel when you wake up-rested,sluggish,tired,etc?

the first week or two you might feel sluggish waking up b/c you're body is used to that 6 hours every night. but as you get used to going to bed at the same time each nite, your body will slowly start adjusting to the amount it needs within the 8 hour time frame. it could be all of it, or just the 6 hours it's used to. how you feel when you wake up and the rest of the day will help determine this for you.

if you find that you are always tired,sluggish, and out of it, then 6 hours probably isn't enough and your overall health will suffer in the long run.

Basically the question says. When i first wake up i feel very tired but as soon as i'm out of the shower i'm fine and raring to go. I yawn a lot in college but i don't physically feel tired so i am unsure.
I just worried that lack of sleep causes you not to reach your potential growth and causes you to not be able to focus. What do you think?

What do we do during sleep time? Our brain dumps a lot of junk into our subconscious where it remains, as if in Cyberspace.

This action then frees up the brain for more activity until the next sleep period and etc.

Research shows that people who sleep for 5-6 hours a day lead longer, healthier lives than people who sleep 7-10 hours a day.

Obviously your sleeping pattern would need to revolve around your daily routine though.

First of all, what time are u starting on your hw? Do u start right when u get home from school? and if so, why does it take u so long that it takes u that late to do it? Most adults need about 6-8 hours of sleep. U probly need around 8 or so. Im 20 and ive been very inconsistant on my sleep. Some nights i'll get 7 or 8, others, only a few and so i get tired sometimes during the day, which shows more sleep is needed than just 5 hours per night.

I sleep only 6 hours a day and I feel the same too, so I know how the feeling is.
