Is A Chrome Book Worth It

Is Chromebook worth it?

I mostly use my computer for emailing, watching netflix/ youtube, researching, docs, and occasinally online games like ddtank. I've been told that it's an online computer, which means it could only be used when it has access to wifi. So say if my wifi goes haywire, can I still write essays and use excel offline? Thank you.

Is a Chromebook worth it?

I already pre-ordered a wifi-only samsung series 5 silver chromebook, so obviously I think that it is worth it. I already use google docs to make 'powerpoints' and excel charts as well as word documents. No, iTunes will not run on a Chrome OS machine because it is not windows or mac os x. ITunes only runs on windows and Mac OSX devices and this is chrome os. For the office-related tasks that you are concerned about, you can do all of those things on the chromebook. You are right that it is very affordable and tempting, because macs are double the price of the chromebooks. You get the many advantages of 3G data connectivity, instant boot-up, and automatic (behind the scenes) updates. You do get the many applications already available on the chrome webstore which can do multiple things (they even have angry birds). However, if you do need to do advanced video editing and you need to run certain programs that only run on windows-you will be out of luck. I am getting a chromebook because it has flash player (and everything that a regular computer needs to view the web properly, it has the built-in security & auto-updates, and it has 8.5 hours of battery life. To solve your problem that invlolves not having internet everywhere, google docs & Gmail run offline as well. You can view and edit the files on your google docs account and when you get back online, they will update to the cloud. You get a webcam for video chat, so that isn't a problem. Actually, many of the apps on the chrome webstore are beginning to use HTML5 (which is used to run apps offline). You can also upgrade to the 3G version which does come with 100mb of free data monthly for two years, which is very little, but it is enough that if your wifi goes down, you can do something online quick. Or, you can purchase (pre-pay) more data on the chromebook which includes an unlimited day plan for 10 dollars or you can buy monthly data for $10 per gigabyte. I would get the chromebook, just decide on whether or not you need anything on your computer that isn't on the internet.

Is a chromebook worth buying?

I want a laptop that I can use to go on the internet, watch youtube, play games (would ootp baseball and tropico games work on the chromebook?) And write essays for school. Would any of the chromebooks be able to do all of this?

Is it worth the extra $30 for a 4GB RAM chromebook vs 2GB RAM chromebook?

I would say yes, any day a week. But this is me. I feel like 4GB is to little on my laptop.
However! Its a chromebook. It does not run windows. So 2GB ram might still work.
Either way, you got 30 dollars you wont miss that much? go with 4GB. It's better to spend 30 dollars and be decently happy or happy. Than to cheap out on 30 dollars and feel that the computer you bought is too slow.
