Is It Alright To Occasionally Mix Alcohol With Prozac

Can I drink alcohol at all while on Valium/Prozac?

You really need to ask your doctor.

Combining Valium (diazepam) with alcohol can certainly cause problems, using Prozac (fluoxetine) with alcohol has very minimal effects (potentially some increased tiredness).

It is generally recommended that people taking benzodiazepines like Valium should avoid alcohol but treatment guidelines from The American Psychiatric Association do state that judicious use of alcohol may be acceptable in certain people. If you do chose to drink alcohol drink it slowly, try to keep under two units of alcohol (eg., two beers). See how the combination effects you and do NOT drive after drinking. And I would really avoid hard liquor- especially doing shots.

Most people can safely have a couple of drinks when taking benzodiazepines but other people experience significant side effects. Valium and alcohol work in a very similar way so they synergize and produce much greater effects than either one alone. But I really recommend you talk to your doctor.

When do you take Valium during the day? 10 mg twice a day? 5 mg four times a day? Try to keep as much of distance between drinking and taking Valium as you can.

Prozac and Alcohol. what will happen if?

I have Cyclothymia and I'm being treated for depression - 20mg Fluoxetine hydrochloride one table daily. as any teenager my age, i drink. Whenever i've been drunk while on this medicine (yes i know it's not a good idea to drink too much but i'm very careful when it comes to things like this) it's a different kind of drunk. it's like being drunk on jagerbombs, You're wasted but you don't get some of the effects like dizzyness and that wobbily feeling. If i was to mix the powder from one of my tablets with a strong drink. (Which I am NOT going to do, just one of my friends asked me about it and i want to find out the answer for him) Other than taste vile what would happen? would it have the same effect as a jagerbomb but just with a massive calm down the next day, or would it have no effect at all becasue prozac takes 2 weeks before any effects are felt? Obviously it's incrediby dangerous and i would never try it. it just got me thinking really. is there anyone who ACTUALLY knows what will happen rather than just think what will happen. please include your source so i know if it's reliable. obviously opinions will be taken into account but i'd rather know from someone who done it or something like that. cheers :)

Consuming alchohol while taking prozac and ritalin?

Since alcohol and Prozac (fluoxetine hydrochloride) act upon similar chemicals in the brain, the antidepressant may intensify the effects of alcohol. However, many health care providers say that, in general, it is okay to drink alcohol while on Prozac, as long as it's in moderation -- and only after you are aware of the effects that the medication may have on your body.

Taking Ritalin and alcohol together may increase the effects of Ritalin, thereby affecting your ability to perform tasks that require complete concentration. Until you know how the stimulant affects you, you should avoid alcohol. Although there are no specific interactions between Ritalin and alcohol, people with a history of alcohol abuse may not be prescribed the drug, due to the possibility for abuse.

Hope this helps, please listen to your body it is important.

Prozac + ibuprofen / alcohol?

I've just been prescribed a trial month of prozac (fluoxetine). Is it ok to drink the occasional glass of wine with it? (by occasional I mean about once a week). Also, I get really bad menstrual cramps and take Naproxen and/or ibuprofen products for a week every month.

Is it ok to take the naproxen or ibuprofen with prozac? (my doctor didn't mention it to me when he prescribed it)

What happens if you drink alcohol while on Prozac?

The reasons you are not supposed to drink are:

First, you are being treated for some kind of psychiatric disorder. Alcohol is never good for depressed or otherwise mentally ill people. It may exacerbate the symptoms of your illness.

Two, alcohol depresses brain function and prevents the medicine from working properly.

Three, you can simply have a bad reaction when you mix the two. Prozac effects some people differently than others. Add alcohol to the mix, and there is no telling how you could react. You might become manic, or you may become severely depressed. It can cause bood pressure problems, too. Best to simply forego drinking, altogether, until you heal and get off the medicine.

EDIT: poster below me is incorrect. She's refering to hypertensive crisis, commonly caused by MAOI's which are uncommonly used these days. Drinking on Prozac likely won't kill you, but no one on YA! can tell you this definitively. I am a practicing pharmacist, and I don't know your health conditions, what dosage you are taking, or anything else that would be needed to accurately assess your specific case. It's simply NOT a good idea, for the reasons I listed above. It's up to you what you will do, though. Either way, good luck and be safe!

How much alcohol can be potentially harmful when I miss 1 dose of my 20 mg fluoxetine?

If you have been taking Prozac (fluoxetine) long enough for it to reach therapeutic levels, missing one dose is not going to have an effect on you (other than its level will be a bit lower and it needs to be kept at a constant level.) As far as a toxicity interaction with alcohol, that’s going to depend on everything else about you— medical history, other meds, metabolism, tolerance of alcohol, etc, so there’s no way anyone on an online forum can begin to accurately answer that. Speak with your treating/prescribing physician for a good answer.

A friend takes 20mg Prozac, a daily diet pill per rx instructions for moderate weight loss and in the evenings drinks copious amounts of alcohol. Is this dangerous?

Mixing Prozac and alcohol is not recommended[1] . Alcohol can make depression worse, and Prozac can amplify the affect of alcohol. I am not a doctor, but this interaction is warned against all over google if you look for “Prozac and alcohol”[2] . Unless the amount of alcohol is small. “Copious amounts” is not small. The combination of Prozac and stimulants is also not recommended, see the first footnote.Your friend should discuss the interactions between these medications and alcohol with her doctor or a pharmacist.Sometimes a psychiatrist may not know about the medications prescribed by a the general practitioner and visa versa, although both should be in the loop to prevent issues.Footnotes[1] 8 Drugs that Don’t Mix with Prozac[2] https://www.google.com/search?cl...
